| Just because things can be put on the same list doesn’t mean they are necessarily similar. My attic contains within it thousands of comic books, an inflatable bed, a few jigsaw puzzles, some family pictures, and a Frampton Comes Alive! album. These things are, roughly speaking, in the same location, but they’re hardly of equal value, importance, or utility. I bring this up for the simple reason that we’re hearing a lot about how the GOP must deal with “abortion and gay marriage” as if they are almost the same issue. Back in the day, we were told over and over that marriage was just a piece of paper and that true love did not need that. Marriage was degraded and actually just legal prostitution. Remember that propaganda from the left? So suddenly the ´in´ thing is to marry. And, all the groups want in on it. If marriage is the only way to love then I guess we will have to marry our dogs and cats and children, trees and cars...what the heck. I would pose this question: if marriage is love then why ever get divorced. I say the way to solve the marriage issue is to do away with divorce. Without divorce the dreamy, stylish, trendy popularity of marriage would quickly disappear.

Jonah is becoming more pro-gay marriage, I am not inclined to do so. Does that make my opinion wrong because I personally think that gay marriage invalidates marriage as an institution, which has been, by the way, the real reason it´s been successfully pushed, causing some to ignore their better judgement, and unknowingly helping the push onto society at large?
Personally, I´ve accepted that things like this are here to stay. The battle was lost long ago on both gay marriage and abortion, as greed for the most part, being the deadliest of the seven IMHO, brings the wickedness to bear on humanity in these times.
Time to think about what comes after, because this won´t continue nicely, nor will it continue much longer.

Well, if personal happiness no matter what the cost to others (children who deserve both a mother and a father) and society (which will soon be asked to support polygamy and, yes, incest -- because who are we to deny others happiness?) is the only rationale for public policy, I have a long list of things that could make me happy that are presently illegal. But I restrain myself both for reasons of prudence (I could go to jail) and morality (I could go to Hell). But hey, my happiness is paramount! What are laws, what is morality, when they obstruct that?

Look around. The real threat to marriage today isn´t gays who want to marry, it´s straights who don´t. We´ve passed 40% of babies born illegitimate (uh-oh, how un-PC of me), while only a percent or two of the populace is gay, and not all of them want to marry. This whole issue is a loser because it concerns only a tiny number of people while enabling the Dems and the media to portray us as meanies and homophobes. Meanwhile, Rome continues to burn. Jonah is right: time to get over it. The barn door´s open, the cows are gone, and gays marrying won´t change anybody else´s life one bit.

A square circle, like gay marriage, is an oxymoron. Marriage, by definition is the legal union of a man and a woman. If two gays want to marry each other, they need to call it something else. Personally, I don´t care if gay people live together or have civil unions with all the economic and tax benefits of straight people. That isn´t the point.
What seems to be the gay activists´ point is changing the culture so that everyone sees and accepts gay married people as the norm, which it isn´t. Just because a lot of people believe something is right doesn´t make it so. Consensus is a poor way to define what is right or what is true.

The corruption of our culture and the abuse of the language is what the list is all about. Unlike say, the differing views on tax rates or states rights, the moral issues are the building blocks - the foundation. Jonah is thinking way too inside the beltway if he can´t see that. "Gay" marriage is paramount because the enemy has made it so. Abortion is baby killing. Seperate battles but the same war. If our countrymen must accept these positions - frankly who cares about taxes. The country will deserve to go away.

Abortion is a life and death issue. As such, it will always trump gay marriage in importance. Not even close.
On the other hand, the Catholic Church will never recognize gay marriage, so I really don´t care what the government does on this issue.

The reason Gay Marriage is winning is simple. Most People do not believe in, or live by, the Bible. The Bible clearly states that sex between two men or two women is a sin, period. Abortion is murder by convenience. Both issues are sins but in today´s America most folk could care less about sin or God.

Gay marriage is not about marriage but about marginalizing conservative christians who vote republican. There is no reason to fight for "marriage" in California except to demand the government force acceptance of deviant behavior on conservative christians. Notice that now discrimination laws apply to GLBT. Homosexuals used to claim they were born that way. Now we have to give special employment and housing protection to bisexuals and transsexuals.

Except for my concern of what gay and lesbian marriage will mean for the adoption system (Will religious adoption agencies, for example, be forced to give chidren to legally married gay and lesbian couples even if it´s against their religious reliefs and the wishes of the birth parents?), I´m willing to make a trade. I´ll support gay and lesbian marriage *if* we also get rid of no-fault divorce and make adultery a criminal offense.

The unemployment rate, because of a terrible statistic, is down to 7.6%. The number of people in this country who are not working is shameful. Ninety million Americans are no longer in the workforce. Ninety million. People not in the labor force grew by 663,000, and now 90 million. That´s the labor force participation rate. This is 1979 levels.
