Three people have died after a gunman killed two Marines before shooting himself at a base in the United States. A stand-off between authorities and the suspect at Marine Base Quantico in Virginia began at around 11pm last night after a shooting which left one person dead. The suspect was barricaded in the barracks at the base and was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound earlier today along with the second victim. No names have been released but both victims were Marines, according to Lt. Agustin Solivan. Authorities believe the suspect was a staff member at the officer candidate

I am NOT making this up. And, it is exactly why that one Marine sargent in the Stan got up one night last year and shot 20 civilians.

ROCK HILL, S.C.--U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham has begun his campaign for re-election in earnest. He´s opened a half-dozen campaign offices across South Carolina in the past week. Graham faces five opponents in the June primary, and it´s shaping up to be the biggest fight of Graham´s Senate career. Still, Graham is confident in winning a third term. He says he has a quiet majority of Republicans in his corner that can outvote the loud voices of opposition. Graham´s campaign has $7.6 million in the bank, while none of his five opponents have more than $260,000.

The crisis in Ukraine is a reminder of how volatile and dangerous the world can be. Scores of protesters have been shot and killed. Deals have been struck and ignored; the opposition has seized control of the capital Kiev, and secured the release from prison of Yulia Tymoshenko but the president yesterday denounced this as a coup and promised to remain in office. Whatever happens over the next few days, the country remains perilously torn between the Western half that looks towards Europe and the Easterners who look towards Mother Russia. Such troubles are certainly not limited to Ukraine.

It seems some wealthy Atlantans aren´t keen on the prospect of a drag-racing, egg-throwing Canadian teenager for a neighbor. Residents of the well-to-do Buckhead neighborhood are planning to stage a protest outside the Blackland Road property the pop star has his eye on. Given Bieber´s prior egg-throwing antics at his Calabasas residence, which are now under investigation by the Los Angeles County District Attorney´s office, the residents´ wariness is understandable. The event is set for Monday and so far 136 people have committed to the 6am event. [Snip] ´Some can’t even let their children play in the driveway without fear;

The end of the Cold War was supposed to bring an era of global peace and understanding so secure that the great nations of the world would be able to beat their arms into ploughshares--or at least into lavish welfare programmes. Remember that? When was the last time you heard the phrase “peace dividend”? That was going to be the material reward for the collapse of the Soviet Union and the glorious realisation that there would be no Third World War, and thus no endless arms race on which countries would have to spend vast proportions of their GDP. I fear the front-page story in The Telegraph--revealing that the worst of the flood damage could have been prevented--didn’t tell the half of it.[Snip] Devastating evidence has now come to light not just that the floods covering 65 square miles of the Somerset Levels could have been prevented, but that they were deliberately engineered by Labour ministers in 2009, regardless of the property and human rights of the thousands of people whose homes and livelihoods would be affected. Furthermore, that wildly misleading Met Office forecast in November led the Environment Agency to take a step that has made the flooding

President Obama’s stimulus may have boosted the economy when it passed in 2009, but it’s now beginning to take a toll and will soon begin to leave the economy worse off than if it had never passed, according to a new report Friday by the Congressional Budget Office. Mr. Obama signed the stimulus into law five years ago this week, vowing it would help rescue the economy from its post-Wall Street collapse tailspin, and saying it would save millions of jobs. The CBO said it’s been successful at that, helping sustain between 700,000 and 3.6 million jobs at its peak

In a blow to religious colleges and universities across the country, the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Chicago denied Notre Dame´s request for an injunction to the ObamaCare birth control mandate that requires the school to provide coverage for contraception. The injunction would have given Notre Dame a temporary reprieve from the birth control mandate, as the Roman Catholic school challenges the rule in court.

The real mystery behind the FCC´s now abandoned "study" to police American newsrooms is why the mainstream media refused to raise holy hell over it. While Obama´s lapdogs refused to bark, it was conservative media who fought for newsroom independence and got the FCC to finally back down. Other than the media´s natural obedience to Obama, the fact that the fingerprints of left-wing billionaire George Soros have been found on the FCC study might also help to explain the media´s silence.
