Roger Waters: Boycott

Jerusalem Post [Israel], by Staff

Former Pink Floyd bass player Roger Waters has asked fellow musicians to boycott Israel and asserted that the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) campaign against Israel was "the most effective way to go." In an interview with The Electronic Intifada, Waters accused Israel of being an "apartheid regime," and said sanctions like those imposed in the past on South Africa are the only way to handle the situation in the Palestinian territories. Waters also told The Electronic Intifada that he is planning on publishing an open letter addressed to his musician colleagues worldwide,

Maybe we ought to boycott Waters. Boycotts are a two-way street. Who cares about Pink Floyd music anyway.

Don´t associate Rogers missed deeds with the rest of Pink Floyd. Don´t forget that when Roger Waters no longer wanted to have a Pink Floyd he sued the other 3 members, To prevent them from using the name Pink Floyd. Thankfully, he lost.

Their music is like no other, and, in my opinion have done some of their best work since Roger has been an ex member.

#14 - Saw "The Wall" show a year ago. Was the same band that played the Republican Convention! Problem with "The Wall" is that Kamen´s orchestral parts accompany what´s basically an expensive movie. No live players for the better part of 20 minutes. It really doesn´t translate well.

Buy Pink Floyd to study Parsons and Ezrin. Wish there was a way to cut out Waters´ses profit he obviously does not appreciate it.

We tend to elevate our major athletes, sometimes it seems even to the same level, or above, where we place our nation’s military. It’s an easy mistake to make these days. Almost everyone has played sports, while a very small percentage of us have ventured to foreign lands in the name of freedom. Also, games are fun! War … not so much. If we make the additional mistake of equating compensation with value, then there is a large discrepancy in our valuation of athletes over members of military. Athletes are compensated lavishly, while soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines risk their lives

A single mom with five kids living in Brooklyn with no income on record and struggling to make ends meet sounds like an eligible candidate for government subsidy programs. She signs up for the SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) and Medicaid for herself and her children and gets government assistance to help cover her rent. But in reality, she’s married, her husband has an all-cash business, which allows her to rake in thousands of dollars a month via welfare programs and remain undetected by the government. Todd Spodek says this scenario is common, and that people try to milk entitlement programs all

There was an important kernel of truth buried in director Spike Lee´s recent tirade against gentrification. New York City, like other big cities, has experienced a decades-long economic squeeze in which the cost of housing has soared while wage levels dropped, leaving middle-class families feeling pinched, punished and pushed out. Lee´s 10-minute, obscenity-laced rant about changes in his old Brooklyn neighborhood, Fort Greene, was deliberately offensive and, at times, incendiary (you can listen to it -- uncut -- here). He accused white newcomers to the area of being rude and disrespectful of local culture.

DONETSK, Ukraine - In the afternoon, when the shift ends at the coal mine and the miners walk out into the cold and past the old concrete statue of Lenin, they often head to a tiny corner store a block away. There they´ll stand in the parking lot for a while, drinking little bottles of the vodka called "Truthful." They know what is happening in Kiev, the capital city that can seem so far away. They´ve seen pictures of the democracy protesters shot dead in Kiev´s streets, and the TV reports on the mansions of ousted President Viktor Yanukovych, the one-time thug and pro-Russia politician who grew up in this far-eastern city.

SMOULDERING fires, streets covered in soot, a smell of burned tyres; young men in military rags wandering around purposelessly. A heavy atmosphere of apprehension, anger and disbelief still sits on Independence Square, the gathering place in Kiev that has lent its name, Maidan, to the political protest movement born there, and thereby to the broader popular sentiment that supports it. Despite the toppling of Ukraine’s president, Viktor Yanukovych, there is no sense of triumph among the quiet tears and loud words. But there is an abiding power. Ukraine´s Interior Minister Arsen Avakov accused Russian forces of staging an "armed invasion" in the Black Sea peninsula, claiming they had blocked one military air base and entered an airport overnight. But it´s unclear whether those moves will have any impact on Russia´s calculus in Ukraine, which is at the center of what many see as a tug of war between East and West.
