| Washington — Despite growing awareness of hate crimes, the share of those crimes reported to police has fallen in recent years as more victims of violent attacks express doubt that police can or will help. Nearly 2 of 3 hate crimes go unreported to police, the Justice Department´s Bureau of Justice Statistics reported Thursday. For the years 2003-06, 46 percent of hate crimes were reported to police. But more recently, for 2007-11, just 35 percent were reported. There was an increase in the percentage of victims of violent hate crimes who didn´t report the crime because they believed the police

Amazing the garbage that gets funded by the federal government, in the name of fostering disunity.
You know who does not report crimes to the police? Members of rival street gangs, which most often organize according to race. There´s the crime wave.
Of course, going by the groups AP chooses to quote—pro-gay, anti-white—we´re supposed to read between the lines and figure there´s an epidemic of straight white people attacking homosexuals and minorities.

It´s pretty damn amusing to listen to Obama´s ´Justice´ department wax poetic about ´hate crimes´...
They pretty well demonstrated how ´concerned´ they are in that area when the New Black Panthers - already found guilty of voter intimidation for their club-wielding ´you gon´ be ruled by the black man now!´ *federal* hate crime...
Simply walk away from the crime and any punishment.
Think that would have been the case had the ´intimidating´ been by any other color?

Maybe I´m not awake enough yet but how do they know how may hate crimes weren´t reported?Hate crime laws were a stupid waste of time based on liberal phobias ,so they have to make up supposed victims. To classify a crime as a so-called, "hate crime" is to claim to know what was in the mind of the actor when the crime was committed. Quite the Jedi mind trick if you ask me.
This is akin to the Salem Witch Trials of Massachusetts in the late 17th century. Instead of crying "witch!" you just cry "hate crime" and see that person get extra punishment for an identical crime committed by the politically-favored minority voting interest of the Left (whether race, creed, sexuality, etc. They are all Democrat constituencies).

If you cannot get the right statistics to support your agenda, invent them. How the devil can one /estimate claim that a number of incidents are happening if they are not reported. The biggest success of this M.O. was the use of similarly invented claims of the numbers of backyard abortions and consequent deaths during the abortion campaign, The leaders of that campaign are now admitting that all such statistics were invented, and made to look huge to exercise the utmost sympathy..

FTA: The data in the latest report comes primarily from the National Crime Victimization Survey, which has been collecting information on crimes motivated by hate since 2003.
