Judge won´t let Fort Hood

FORT HOOD, Texas — An Army psychiatrist will not be allowed to plead guilty to any charges in the deadly 2009 Fort Hood shooting rampage, a judge ruled Wednesday. Maj. Nidal Hasan´s attorneys previously said he was ready to plead guilty to the 13 counts of premeditated murder he faces in the worst mass shooting on a U.S. military installation, but Army rules prohibit a judge from accepting a guilty plea to charges that carry the death penalty. Defense attorneys then asked that Hasan be allowed to plead guilty to 13 counts of unpremeditated murder

This will be a silly "monkey" trial. A joke. A farce of attempted justice since the murdering savage Muslim is not being tried as the Islamic terrorist he is.

Traditionally, very few military executions take place. The President has to sign off on the form authorizing the execution. Almost all presidents check the block that changes it from execution to a life sentence. (Even our beloved RR, I believe.)

I have seen the execution room at Fort Leavenworth. We used the elevator shaft where the last hanging took place. And then the Guard Sergeant proudly proclaimed, This room was built with prisoner labor. Being a smart ass, I asked which unit built most of it, he said "Death Row."

We just laughed.

Justice would be best served if he were to be assigned to a pig slaughtering yard. For the balance of his natural life, he would be assigned to kill, disembowel an clean hogs from sun-up to sun-down. No parole could be granted and he would be locked up in solitary confinement. He would never know what time of day it is or the months.

This punishment would be an eye-for-an-eye, fair I think?

If he´s allowed to plead unpremeditated murder,it would be a huge, obvious lie and a reason to throw the sentence out on appeal.I think he´s being denied his rights to not be able to plead guilty. It´s not the judge´s job to protect people from themselves unless there´s a sanity issue.

Vladimir Putin is a lucky man. And he’s got three more years of luck to come. He takes Crimea, and President Obama says it’s not in Russia’s interest, not even strategically clever. Indeed, it’s a sign of weakness. Really? Crimea belonged to Moscow for 200 years. Russia annexed it 20 years before Jefferson acquired Louisiana. Lost it in the humiliation of the 1990s. Putin got it back in about three days without firing a shot. Now Russia looms over the rest of eastern and southern Ukraine. Putin can take that anytime he wants — if he wants. He has already

Whenever President Obama has sought to turn up pressure on Republicans on issues important to Latinos, he has found reliable partners in Spanish-language TV networks Univision and Telemundo. On Thursday, Obama came calling again — but this time, his partners became adversaries. Obama was appearing at a town hall-style event at the Newseum to encourage the Latino community to sign up for health-insurance policies under the Affordable Care Act. But the hosts, Jose Diaz-Balart of Telemundo and Enrique Acevedo of Univision, turned their sights on another issue: immigration. “Your reputation has been tarnished among Latinos over deportations,” Acevedo said, referring

With less than a month left for Americans to enroll in insurance plans under President Obama’s health care overhaul, companies like H&R Block and Jackson Hewitt Tax Service may be the administration’s secret weapon in getting people to sign up. Tax experts are leveraging their busy season ahead of the mid-April filing deadline to advise customers about government-subsidized health plans that are available through the end of March under Obamacare. They’re also providing a suite of online services and call centers to make it easier to sign up for plans under the Affordable Care Act. “We’ve been saying for a

Republicans circled around Rep. Darrell Issa Thursday, rejecting a Democratic effort to censure the House’s top investigator after he cut off the microphone of the top Democrat on the oversight committee Wednesday during a heated hearing. GOP lawmakers defeated a resolution chastising Mr. Issa, and House Speaker John A. Boehner gave Mr. Issa qualified backing, saying the congressman was within his rights to end Wednesday’s hearing after former IRS employee Lois G. Lerner refused to answer questions about the tax agency’s tea party targeting. The vote was 211-186 to table the resolution, effectively killing it. Ten lawmakers voted “present.” “From

President Obama urged Russia on Tuesday to stop “meddling” in Ukraine and withdraw its troops from Crimea, but a defiant Russian President Vladimir Putin said sanctions threatened by the West won’t prevent him from defending his country’s interests with its troubled neighbor. As the crisis persisted, Mr. Obama overshadowed his own budget rollout to accuse Mr. Putin of concocting a pretext to invade the Crimean peninsula in southern Ukraine. Secretary of State John F. Kerry, who met with top Ukrainian officials on a visit to Kiev, insisted that Russia is violating international law. “President Putin seems to have a different

President Obama sent Congress a $3.9 trillion budget blueprint Tuesday that seeks fresh spending to boost economic growth but also aims to tame the national debt by raising taxes on the rich, squeezing payments to health-care providers and overhauling immigration laws. Congressional Republicans immediately rejected the request for fiscal 2015, saying that the proposal would bust limits on agency spending that the White House endorsed in December. But the blueprint, the fifth of Obama’s presidency, was not designed primarily to influence the latest round of Capitol Hill budget talks. Instead, it charts a course for Obama’s final years in office,

BERLIN —NATO members held emergency talks about the crisis in Ukraine on Tuesday and pledged their “solidarity,” but there were signs of division in Europe over how to respond to Russia’s intervention in Crimea. Among the biggest obstacles to consensus: Fears dating to the Cold War are running up against the economic clout of the new Russia. In the former Eastern bloc, political leaders and the populace are seeing the ghost of the Cold War. A nervous Poland, where Lech Walesa stared down the Soviet Union in the 1980s, called Tuesday’s snap meeting of NATO members by invoking a rarely

Neither program is sufficient, because neither reflects the reality behind the recent IRS scandal, which was not the result of murky rules or bureaucratic incompetence but rather of what gives every indication of being deliberate misuse of federal investigatory resources for partisan political ends. So, Lois Lerner still won´t talk about her role in the illegal targeting and harassment by the IRS of conservative and Tea Party groups seeking 501(c)(4) tax exemptions. Lerner appeared for a second time Wednesday before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform and claimed her Fifth Amendment right not to incriminate herself. It isn´t hard to figure out why Lerner´s lips are sealed. First, she knows the House of Representatives can cite her for contempt of Congress, but Attorney General Eric Holder would decide whether she is prosecuted on that charge. Where Lois Lerner goes, drama follows. On Wednesday, the former IRS officer again invoked the Fifth before the House Oversight Committee. That precipitated a heated exchange between the committee’s Republican chairman, Darrell Issa, and Democratic ranking member Elijah Cummings, who called the hearings “un-American.” And that spat has become the story. No doubt that is exactly what Cummings had in mind. Because it distracts attention from the substance of the hearings — and from the questions raised by e-mails and public remarks Lois Lerner wrote, received or made when she was IRS Director of Tax Exempt Organizations. WASHINGTON — Charles G. and David H. Koch, the billionaire brothers who are perhaps the best-known patrons of conservative Republican politics, are bespectacled and in their 70s. They look genial enough. But Democrats are embarking on a broad effort that aims to unmask the press-shy siblings and portray them, instead, as a pair of villains bent on wrecking progressive politics. On Thursday, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee is starting a digital campaign that will use Internet ads and videos, as well as social media, to tie Republican Senate candidates to the policies and actions of the Koch brothers.
