It took less than one minute for accused killer David Renz to fool his watchers

| 7:08 p.m. Thursday. That is the minute David J. Renz used to trick a GPS monitoring system used nationwide to keep people safe from criminals. It’s the minute that allowed Renz – charged with possessing child pornography in January – to begin a night police say ended with him raping a 10-year-old girl and stabbing school librarian Lori Bresnahan to death in the town of Clay. In less than 60 seconds, Renz took apart his GPS ankle monitor, removed it from his ankle, reassembled it and set it down, off of his body, according to Chief U.S. Probation Officer
|
Comments: Demon who should have been in jail was instead set free to rape and kill, thanks to an easily defeated ankle monitor furnished by a US government approved vendor. Device manufacturer has received $219 million in federal contracts over the past decade.

The fault may not lie with the device manufacturers. When one reads the article one discovers that the fault may lie with the probation office. They told the monitoring company to stop reporting when the signal from the ankle bracelet was interrupted for short periods of time because they kept getting "false" reports. Maybe those weren´t "false" reports after all, maybe they were test runs by the perpetrator.

The solution is to implant a device inside the criminal´s body. He or she would have to cut it out of their body, and a signal would be sent if it was moved within the body.

Criminals will always find a way to skirt the law, won´t they? Just like they will always find a way to get guns.
This is one more reason why law-abiding citizens should not be denied the right to arm themselves. As a former police officer said, if you only knew what kind of scum is walking the streets, you would run, not walk to the nearest gun store.

A child predator (anyone who buys kiddie porn is already a predator) gets to go home with an ankle bracelet. Meanwhile, a guy caught with a baggie of pot goes to the big house. Our justice system is whack.

This is confusing. GPS tracking works with cars, cell phones, dogs, etc. But this guy defeated it within minutes? Instead of wasting money on expensive electronic toys just attach a 50 pound cannon ball to his leg with a chain. It inhibits rapid movement.

The weak link in all GPS systems is the link to the satelites. It´s low powered and easily spoofed.
You can buy kits and jammers all day long that transmit whatever co-ordinates you want, no tinkering needed.

This guy should have been in jail, awaiting trial, held on a very steep bail.
Instead, a woman is dead, a child´s life ruined, and he´s walking around with his shirt over his head to avoid public scrutiny.
Now his jail-mates can deal with him, as one already has.

A federal injunction seeks to shut down Memphis-based Mo’ Money Taxes. The government contends tax losses from fraudulent tax returns prepared by the firm in 2011 cost the IRS more than $9 million. The U.S. Justice Department has long had an eye on Mo’ Money and the tax preparation business. The focus intensified last year after hundreds of Mo’ Money clients in several states alleged bounced checks, excessive fees and the failure of the business to pass along IRS refunds. Augusta, Ga. — The usual crowd at the putting green at Augusta National had turned to face the wrong direction, toward the outdoor dining area adjacent to the old clubhouse. Usually, this is a sign that golf royalty is nearby. And, sure enough, there he was: Arnold Palmer, the four-time Masters winner, wearing in his green jacket and looking over a menu that he has probably seen a thousand times. He already has his beverage. He is drinking an Arnold Palmer. We will have a full week to debate questions pertaining to this tournament. Will Tiger Woods finally break his major

New York — Cookie Monster stands accused of shoving a 2-year-old. Super Mario was charged with groping a woman. And Elmo was booked for berating tourists with anti-Semitic slurs. Times Square is crawling with entrepreneurs who dress up as pop-culture characters and try to make a few bucks posing for photos with visitors to the big city. But some of these characters are unlike anything you´ve seen on "Sesame Street" or at Disney World. They smoke, they use foul language, and they can be aggressive. At least three of them have been arrested in the past seven months.

Oakland Mayor Jean Quan has gained a reputation for citing crime statistics that don’t always add up or making statements to the press she later says were taken out of context. It’s happened again. In an interview with KCBS radio broadcast on Monday, Oakland’s mayor said the following: For the last 2 months, violence in Oakland has been way down. It seems to come in these spurts. So like for six weeks there had been no murders east of High Street in East Oakland. Problem is, there have been seven homicides east of High Street over the past six weeks,

The Navy’s cancellation of Blue Angels 2013 air shows extends past the federal fiscal year ending in September means the November 1-2 Homecoming Show at Pensacola Naval Air Station has been scrapped too. “It’s not just the fiscal year,” said Navy Lt. Aaron Kakiel, spokesman for the Naval Air Forces Command in San Diego. Thus the Navy is also canceling the Blues four air shows in October. More importantly for the November 2013 season finale in Pensacola, their practices in October are canceled too. New York — As many doctors struggle to keep their practices financially sound, some are buckling under money woes and being pushed into bankruptcy. It´s a trend that´s accelerated in recent years, industry experts say, with potentially serious consequences for doctors and patients. Some physicians are still able to keep practicing after bankruptcy, but for others, it´s a career-ending event. And when a practice shuts its doors, patients can find it harder to get the health care they need nearby. Chapter 11 bankruptcy filings by physician practices have spiked recently, noted Bobby Guy, co-chair of the American Bankruptcy Institute´s

The murder trial of abortionist Kermit Gosnell largely is being ignored by the mainstream media, even in the face of grisly testimony, such as what we heard yesterday. Abortion clinic employee Sherry West described an incident which "really freaked (her) out" and related to the jury how she heard a child who was born alive following an abortion scream.

HARTFORD, Conn. -- With time running out on the chance to pass gun control legislation, President Barack Obama on Monday warned Congress not to use delaying tactics against tighter regulations and told families of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting victims that he´s "determined as ever" to honor their children with tougher laws. Obama´s gun control proposals have run into resistance on Capitol Hill, leaving their fate in doubt. Beginning a week of high pressure on gun control, the White House on Monday accused some Republican senators of cowardice for planning to filibuster gun legislation without allowing the full Senate to vote on President Obama’s initiatives. “If they oppose this legislation, have the courage to say so on the floor and vote no,” said White House press secretary Jay Carney. “Don’t block it. Don’t hide behind a procedural action to prevent a vote. That’s the wrong thing to do, and that’s how the president clearly feels.”

The sequester may have many across the country singing the blues, but for President Obama, it was all about Memphis Soul. Even with the threat of furloughs and government cuts sparked by the sequester, Obama took the time to enjoy a star-studded concert at the White House tonight. The White House celebration of Memphis Soul music in the East Room--which included special guest appearances by Queen Latifah and Justin Timberlake--is likely to rile Obama´s Republican foes. Some conservatives have called on Obama to give up golf, especially since popular public tours of the White House have been canceled because of

In the message he issued along with his budget proposal on Wednesday morning, President Barack Obama said he wants to see 4-year-old children in the United States enrolled in public schools. Obama said America needs to start enrolling 4-year-olds to make sure the children are “better prepared for the demands of the global economy” and to help parents save on "child-care costs." After saying the United States needs to “equip our citizens with the skills and training” to fill jobs in manufacturing, energy and infrastructure, Obama said, “And that has to start at the earliest possible age.”

Although the first votes on gun -control legislation have yet to be cast, by some measures the National Rifle Association has already won. Obama’s ambitious plans to ban assault weapons and limit magazine capacities are off the table, while the NRA suggested it could support the most likely outcome -- expanded background checks -- as recently as 1999. The NRA claims that the president’s efforts have triggered a fundraising surge and boosted its membership from 4 million to nearly 5 million.
