| Washington — Major automakers say the Obama administration´s "quiet cars" rule to help blind pedestrians avoid electric vehicles and other nearly silent vehicles would result in warning sounds that are too loud. Two trade groups representing Detroit´s Big Three automakers, Toyota Motor Corp., Volkswagen AG and other major Asian and European automakers raised serious concerns about the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration´s proposed rules mandating minimum sound levels to warn the visually impaired as well as bicyclists. This is a silly problem, but the solution is obvious.
If the vehicle is too loud, then tax the noise. If it´s too quiet, then tax the silence.
What could be simpler?

Another example of progressivism run amok. We are the all compassionate, so just do what we say. If we can save just one blind person from being sideswiped by an electric car that no one is driving, it will all be worth it.

Don´t make the cars loud, make crossings with sensors and sounds...the handicapped pedestrian carries a transponder that activates it.
Why should everyone be bothered by such devices and the cost of cars go up to help (the stupidest way imaginable) 1% of the population.
Bureaucrats are so stupid it defies the imagination!

#3 is on to the solution. I´d add transponder "beacons" in the cars themselves. These would trigger Bluetooth-style receivers to alert visually impaired of the presence (and ultimately position) of oncoming vehicles.
OEM cost? Less than $25 per vehicle.

I think it is time to have a discussion about banning those silent electric-powered assault vehicles.
Can NHTSA cite even one case where a blind person was injured because he/she didn´t hear an oncoming electric car? NO!

Trenton, N.J. — A new report shows New Jersey´s county jails are clogged with people who can´t afford to post their often-nominal bail. The report to be released Monday by the Drug Policy Alliance shows 4 out of 10 county jail inmates have been granted bail but can´t afford to post it. The report, which analyzes the state´s jail population, finds up to 1,500 people could secure their release pending trial with $2,500 or less. Kathleen Sausa, 42, told borough officials in early 2011 that she was pregnant with twins, according to the lawsuit she filed Monday in Superior Court. Sausa accuses officials of targeting her after she announced her pregnancy. Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise. Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs. People aren’t saying they don’t believe in God. They’re saying they don’t believe in religion. They are not rejecting Christ. They are rejecting the church. Gluten-free diets are all the rage, but they can be dangerous if not done right. What is gluten? It´s the spongy complex of proteins, found naturally in wheat, rye, and barley, that gives elasticity to dough and allows it to rise. When flour is moistened and either kneaded or mixed into dough, gluten molecules form an elastic, microscopic latticework that traps the carbon dioxide produced when yeast ferments, causing dough to inflate like a hot air balloon. Baking hardens the gluten, which helps the finished product keep its shape. Wheat — and gluten — is ubiquitous in the American diet.
