The first step in the right direction will be to stop nominating RINOs. What these maroons don´t seem to realize is that they are missing the trees (grass-root conservatives)for the woods (moderates).

You can see why they call the Republican Party the stupid party when party leaders claim that the Hispanic vote will substantially shift to the Republicans, once Hispanics who vote see that the Republicans are finally caving, and are supporting what everybody in that population group knows is a longstanding liberal Democrat policy initiative, amnesty and a special path to citizenship and eventual US voting rights for 11-20 million illegal aliens thought to be here now. What those Republican leaders are implying is pure fool´s gold!

The vast majority of Hispanics who vote for the liberal Democrats now, along with the eventual 10 million or so new foreign born voters who would be created by and who will eventually emerge after they complete a special path to citizenship, will be poor people who are generally uneducated earn a low wage and have large families. Most have no healthcare insurance. The basic reason that they will always vote for the liberal Democrats is because they know that the liberal Democrats promise them "free" healthcare and complete access to an expanding number of social welfare benefits and services that those people and their foreign family members will need to survive here in the future.

There is no way that any Democrat lite party is going to out bid the liberal Democrats regarding support for US social safety net welfare programs, and you can safely bet that the massive number of liberal Democrat allied community organizers who operate in most ethnic and immigrant communities will make sure that those people know that the liberal Democrats are who they should vote for, and that the Republicans are the party of the rich and do not care about them. We saw that in the last election.

Hurrah - people are finally coming to grips with the disintegration of the GOP. It must die before it can resurrect since it has repudiated all attempts so far to make the corrections needed. Too much deadwood, protecting their own turf and life of luxury courtesy of the tax payers. They should never have been allowed to approve their own salaries and benefits.We are their employees - let´s make that abundantly clear. They have amassed an idiotic set of rules in Congress that do nothing to improve good governance. Electees must remember who elected them and why, and vote their conscience not the party line because of implied threats. No wonder it is such a mediocre outfit.When you can´t tell Rs from Ds, it is time for radical reassessment.

I truly believe the problem is not conservatism but the inability (or unwillingness?) of Republicans to accurately and passionately promote it. I was thinking about this yesterday and decided to re-read The Conservative Mind by Russell Kirk. In Henry Regnery´s intro he quoted Kirk:

Conservatism is not a fixed and immutable body of dogma, and conservatives inherit from Burke a talent for re-expressing their convictions to fit the times.

We don´t need to change our convictions, just nominate men and women with the ability to express them in plain English and with passion and "conviction". We need fighters and we´ve gotten appeasers. I agree with Limbaugh:The point is that no matter what I prefer, the hard truth is that the movement inside the Republican Party to abandon social conservatism is nothing short of a political death wish.

Also, agree with Rush that a large part of the problem is how Republicans are perceived by voters. He says surveys have shown that people, when presented with a blind choice, choose conservative answers to problems over others --- until the title "Republican" is attached to those solutions. It´s the name "Republican" that they don´t like, because they believe the negative image manufactured by the left.

Limbaugh is correct - to a point. What he overlooks is that the GOP is a means to an end. It is only a vehicle. If it doesn´t get us to our destination, then we need a new vehicle.

Rather than a death wish, as David concludes, the current struggle is the birth pain of something new and long overdue.

Dumping the social conservative voters on the hope and a prayer that a few Hispanics and gay marriage types will magically start voting GOP.

I listen to Rush quite often, usually daily, and he is actually part of the problem.

Rush strongly endorsed Romney over McCain in the 2008 primary cycle.

Why then was Rush so blatantly tepid toward Romney throughout the 2012 cycle?
Rush kept criticizing "the Republican Establishment" for forcing moderates upon
us... but voters selected Romney in the primaries... didn´t Rush know?
Ann Coulter was so much better than Rush about Romney´s conservative qualities.

Rush is two-faced, so I´m not giving his brother David a pass on this one.

Romney was not different in 2012 from what he was in 2008, when Rush endorsed him.
Rush tried to be sly and clever in pulling the rug out from under Romney as "not conservative enough."

Now Rush looks elsewhere to point out that many conservatives stayed home in 2012.
Well, gee, Rush... you might be to blame.

Lazy multimillionaires who never run for the oral orifice themselves but just blabber

Hmmm. Rick Santorum supported Romney after he got out of the race in 2012, too. So? Elections always involve making choices from a tiny field of options.

The GOP has been fractured for quite a few election cycles already – mainly because there are only two major parties and neither is interested in conservative limited government principles.

Conservatives have been shown the door at the GOP, but due to the fact that there are no other choices, they vote GOP anyway. Then when the GOP loses, conservatives get blamed. Full meal deal. Why would anyone have a problem?
