Priebus: Rob Portman ‘a good,
conservative Republican’ after
announcing support for gay marriage

Washington Times, by David Sherfinski

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus batted away the idea on Monday that Sen. Rob Portman would receive any less support from the party after he recently expressed his support for same-sex marriage. “I think that there isn’t anyone in this room — Republican, Democrat, in the middle — that doesn’t think Rob Portman, for example, is a good, conservative Republican. He is. And we know that,” Mr. Priebus said at a breakfast hosted by the National Press Club. The event was to outlined elements of the RNC’s “Growth & Opportunity Project” — a roadmap for a

Comments:
Very heavy sigh. Priebus seems to be throwing anything out there and hoping he can please everyone. With leadership like this we are doomed.

Priebus does NOT reflect the Republican party I belong to. So, where do I go ?

Sorry, Mr. Priebus, but this is why I no longer send contributions to the RNC.

Portman threw away both his religion and his principles. He can love his son without advocating changing the laws of God and the US.

Portman and Priebus are both pathetic. Propel each of them out the door with well-aimed kicks to their respective Moochelles.

on what planet is support for gay marriage conservative?

the republican party is toast.

i have advocated for years on this board that we need a new political party. if the events of the last two weeks are enough (putting aside losing to an empty suit like 0bama)then drink some more republican kool-aid

I would rather lose the election than compromise a principle. We lose elections because we compromise toes conservative principals. If we cave to the masses who support the social issues of he day, we will never win. People cannot tell the good from the bad if there is no difference between the choices. Stand ground!

No matter the reason, Portman broke his promise to the constituents who voted for him. If he does not resign and goes through with this "change of heart for personal reasons", he is a disgrace.

I have no doubt that Mr. Portman is a fine fellow. However, I´m uncomfortable with people who change their moral principles in harmony with their family´s behavior.

Why I abandoned the republican party and became a conservative independent. In the past tens of thousands of years, No Human Culture has ever condoned gay marriage. Why start now.

I wish the RNC would print their innumerable money solicitations on much softer paper so I could at least get some value from the organization.

It´s possible for Republicans to accept gays and still be good conservatives.
It is not possible for the far right to accept that premise.
Instead of constantly complaining
about the Republican Party , Sarah Palin and Rush Limbaugh and David Bossie et al.
should have the courage of their convictions and form a third party.
With their hand wringing , they act like they´re prisoners being held captive by the Republican Party.

Just because Rob Portman wants to do something stupid i.e. "gay marriage"...does not mean I follow suit...neither Portman nor Priebus talk for me and I believe the majority of Conservatives and Republicans...so Portman can change his heart and I can believe he is a fool

This is getting absurd. Let the government issue domestic partnerships to whomever and however many wish to participate, and get out of the "marriage" business. Leave marriage to the churches.

As to Priebus and Portman: the case for a new party gets stronger and stronger.

Summary:
1. Rob Portman does a 180, now supports homosexual ´marriage´ because his son "came out."
2. Priebus supports Portman because it´s good politics.
3. Charles Murray hijacks a time slot at CPAC to tell us he supports homosexual ´marriage´ because he has sincere homosexual friends...and his kids MIGHT vote Republican if we "widen our tent."
4. Hillary Clinton and Barack Hussein Obama support homosexual ´marriage´ because it´s good politics...[although Huma Abedin and Chicago bath houses may also have been factors here.]

Bottom Line: Who gives a darn about these "situational ethics" folks. MARRIAGE, the word and the institution are sacred to a lot of people. Stay the H*** away from it, you clowns!

#13 has the right idea. Get the government out of the marriage business. Let them issue licenses for same sex cohabitation called anything but marriage.

The reason Rush et al wring their hands over the GOP becoming Democrat lite is exactly because they are going to lose the Conservative vote and never win another election again. A third party will simply be a clear manifestation of that.

Put out an all-points bulletin: Millions of Americans have gone missing from the workforce. Every month that those would-be workers are gone raises the odds that they might never come back, dimming the prospects for future economic growth. The vanishing trend is more than a decade old, but it accelerated during the Great Recession. Throughout 2012, economists held out hope that it had stopped. But then came Friday’s jobs report, and hopes were dashed. The Labor Department reported that the U.S. labor force — everyone who has a job or is looking for one — shrank
