I just emailed the "church" saying they were a secular social group not a Bible preaching church!

Good. I hope they stop performing their regular Sunday farces also and eventually sell the building and go away.

Amazing how quickly we have gone from DOMA to this travesty.

After a life long membership in UMC´s, I stopped attending and tithing about 4 years ago. Should have quit sooner.

I have been recommending to my pastor that he stop signing marriage licenses for a while now...before the state starts requiring him to sign same-sex "marriage" licenses.

It is probably a ploy to cover up the fact that not one couple of marrying age has entered the Church for anything but a funeral in years.

As an active member of the UMC, this is so hard. Stay and work for the Lord, or shake the dirt off my sandels and move on. Very very tough decision. I can guarantee I will know for sure in 4 years, next General Conference.

#6, we left the UMC 12 years ago when the women´s ministry group wanted donations to buy Korans for a NM native American school so they could learn about Islam.

I have the utmost respect for the original doctrines of Methodism, and I´ve known wonderful ministers of that denomination, but it must be becoming clear, that all Christians must turn their backs on these modern and fashionable churches that are putting their politics before true religion and morality.
Remain Protestant, but follow the Pope´s lead in standing steadfast for the revealed truth of Christian life.

No doubts why Jesus hates the Nicolaitans as examplified by this adulterous UMC congregation.She has turned her back to her Lord & embraced a different lord. I pray that all true believers in that congregation will leave that abomination to escape the judgement that is coming.

Why would you want to have anything to do with this "church" if you are a Christian. They obviously aren´t a Christian Church.

Since they are more PC than religious, take away their religious nonprofit status.

I knew a gay reverend who wouldn´t perform any marriage ceremonies because he didn´t want to sign a government form to make it official. I admired him and his logic.

He would probably perform symbolic, same-sex weddings in states where it´s not legal, though. But I am in complete agreement that the government acknowledging "marriage" and requiring a member of the clergy perform the ceremony (or some other official of their choosing) is not appropriate.

Are the crucifixes hung upside down? Do they read the Our Father from end to beginning? To stop performing a ceremony that is accepted as beneficial to society because courts won´t force the rest of us to accept gay marriage is just spiteful and sinful. This is like a parent telling the children that none of them can eat until Johnny finishes dessert.

I thought it would be Methodists (or Unitarians) and I was right.

The nice thing about churches, unlike the government, is that there´s another one down the street.

The statement refers to the "sacrament of marriage" which says it all. What it should have said is that the church will only perform civil union ceremonies, or, recommend the Justice of the Peace.

The statement ´sacrament of marriage´ is incorrect. In the United Methodist church, there are only two sacraments: baptism, and Holy Communion. Marriage ceremony is not a sacrament. So if this statement is on their website, they don´t know what they´re talking about.

Guess they are a social church. They certainly don´t follow the religion. they just mouth the words.

Sorry to say this but they´re Methodists, the folks that agreed to having homosexual pastors. I´ve been to a few of their services and the Bible isn´t mentioned much...

Not sure why #9 would have trouble with this. Leaving a church and all the friends would be difficult. However, God has specific rules for our behaviour and a really big one is being against gay marriage. Sometimes a Christian has to stand up for their beliefs and it can be hard sometimes.

I left the United Methodist Church in 1978. It was then that I realized that I was starving scripturally. One of the best decisions I ever made. Better friends were at the Bible-teaching church.

I apologize for my additional post, but I must answer: this church is one local church out of thousands and thousands. The larger church is very divided on this issue. My own local church is fairly conservative with a pastor I know would never officiate a same-sex wedding, ever. I have no difficulty being in my local church whatsoever. The issue is the larger church and the structure that allows local churches and bishops to openly defy UMC doctrine without consequence.

The UMC proper meets at General Conference every 4 years; this past meeting, in 2012, as happens every time, the proposal to eliminate the principle of the UMC that ´homosexuality is incompatible with Christianity´ was introduced, and it was voted down. Not by large enough margin, but it was once again voted down. That is what this local NC church is protesting.

The UMC resigned from GOD long ago . It started with demands for money instead of accepting what the members could offer. Isn´t it interesting that Mormon clergy don´t expect the members to support them financially.

Maybe they should get into the medical marijuana business, just paint those crosses green and there y´go.

I am also a traditional Methodist in a conservative, rural church. Our congregation was told that homosexual pastors would have been approved if not for the votes of the African members of the conference.

We are moving to an area that has no Methodist church, so my decision will be made for me as whether to stay a Methodist.

An example of sin making you stupid: WE will make all people live in sin unless the STATE approves of a particular kind of sin. All for the sake of equal rights of course. My the King of Lies and discord is so happy!

BY the way, this same groups should swear off using a bolt made up of one single screw and one single nut, until the state legislates that two nuts on their own or two screws on their own can perform the same function as a bolt.

PS The state has absolutely no interest in any sexual union/relationship which does not have the capacity or the will to produce children solely within that relationship. All other matters concerning that relationships can be settled by by legally enforcible contracts and Powers of Attorney.

It´s obviously not a real church. They´re just in it for the tax exempt status. Marriage is between one man and one woman. Got it?
