Gay Marriage and Freedom

RUSH: I´ll tell you, there´s something else I´d like to spend some time on today and develop further if it works out. I´m making no commitments. Hillary Clinton has come out today for gay marriage. I warned you about this months ago. This issue has now catapulted to the top seemingly of everybody´s list. It´s stunning the way this has happened. In the millennial generation, 25 and under, it´s all that matters. Gay marriage. Young conservatives 30 and under, 35 and other, Manhattan bar scene conservative: Gay marriage, all that matters. I´m afraid Rush is right. The Repubs may be a ghost party before it is all over. My church discovered back during the Prop fight in CA. Our young people had bought into the concept of well it´s your life. The church is now trying to teach why marriage is only between a man and a woman. Have we already lost this one? What will the implications for future elections be?

What if the Supreme Court rules that DOMA and the California law are constitutional? Doesn´t it just become a matter of state law then? I think all of this hoopla over gay marriage is just an attempt to influence the Court in accepting "the inevitable." This is what happened with Roe v. Wade. Abortion was becoming legal in a handful of states and the Court just decided to move it along. It was a legally unsupportable thing to do, but they are the Supreme Court; their word is final. I believe that Scalia, Alito and Thomas will never vote to find laws prohibiting gay marriage unconstitutional. Kennedy is an enigma. I don´t know what he will do. Roberts, I fear, may be swayed the liberalism that pervades Washington, DC and environs. I don´t see how he can claim that Obamacare is an issue for the voters but gay marriage is not.

People, people, people. You have to think in terms of individual freedom versus government control.

And if you do - - you´ll be outraged by the government having any involvement at all with marriage. Why should anyone need the government´s approval to get married? Why is any government issuing marriage "licenses"? Licensing what?

The true freedom-loving, Constitutional position is to GET THE GOVERNMENT OUT OF MARRIAGE. The only time there should be any government involvement is if there is a dispute over a contract - - and then the dispute gets settled in a civil court - - the same way any dispute gets settled peacefully.

Until the Pubbies wake up and make the case for this perfectly logical position - - they´re doomed to keep failing. But then again - - failure is what Pubbies do best.

As for Hill-err-ee-ass Herself...

I think it is hilarious that Hillary came out for Gay Marriage AFTER a growing number of Republican politicians and notables had already done so.

It is unfortunate that change often comes only when the old guard dies off. Still, Senator Portman and Charles Murray both got mugged by reality in the same week, and way before they were ready to bite the dust. Looks like the Republican Party will get smaller for a while the Socialists get stronger. Perhaps one day the GOP base will decide it no longer makes sense to trade away their economic prosperity in order to keep weddings for heterosexuals only.

Rush is right, it is a stunning success of marketing on the part of the Left.

This has been achieved through Orwellian manipulation of the language. A couple of decades ago, most people found the coupling of the words "gay" and "marriage" to be utterly nonsensical ... and they were right to do so.

The Left´s success in radically redefining words and concepts reminds me of their stunning coup four decades ago:
The public was seduced into supporting the murder of children when the Left began to frame abortion as "choice," and then de-humanized the pre-born child by replacing the word "baby" with the ugly, clinical-sounding Latin term, "fetus."

While I agree that the government has no place at the marriage table; it is a church function, the government has seen fit to give tax preferences to married people. Big mistake. It may have seemed good at the time to encourage family formation but the tax break is now the driving force. The gays won´t admit it, but it is all about taxes. What in this country is not about taxes?

Lost cause. You can´t remove the tax break and you can´t win the moral argument. Give it up and do so freely. Sorry but considering that we need to save the country from Marxism, gay marriage is small potatoes!

God gave ancient Israelites “religion” and “government.” God instituted “government” to care for people on earth; “religion” to prepare people for their journey to eternity. The USA was founded on Judeo-Christian principles. Liberals have been successful in undermining and/or taking God out of this country in a variety of ways, including political correctness; same-sex marriage the most recent example. When people of faith abandon God, they place their nation at risk; God uses economy, weather, and war as a means of discipline. Take heed.

RUSH HAS FOUR STINKIN´ WIVES.

Four wives no kids. There is nothing "natural" about that. Hey, maybe we could get Liz Taylor or Zsa Zsa Gabor to be our spokesperson for marriage.

Rush is correct in his rhetoric, but he is not qualified to lead a culture war. And that is what we are in.

I am very sorry to say this, but he is part of the problem. People like Rush have so watered down the culture that we are now vulnerable to gay marriage. What the H.

Is the Constitution becoming the left´s new target? That thought struck me the other night over dinner with my liberal friend, a lawyer and part-time professor. Among his choice statements, "Maybe it´s time to get rid of the Constitution and start over." No doubt he was echoing the sentiments of Georgetown law professor, Louis Michael Seidman, who suggested just that in a New York Times op-ed. It´s been several weeks since Seidman made his remarks, and now, it appears, the floodgates are open. Liberals feel they can speak freely about their true intentions for our country.

For the first time in my adult life, I am not proud of the First Lady. Mrs. Obama is frequently compared to Marie Antoinette. She spends hundreds of millions of dollars a year on her own pleasure and aggrandizement while urging the peasants to plant gardens. And for the first time in American history, we have a president who insults us across the world, disavows the idea that American is special, enriches our enemies such as the Muslim Brotherhood, and degrades our achievements ("You didn´t build that."). Metaracism instilled in the Obamas the tragedy of ingratitude.

Deroy Murdock (Hoover Institute, Scripts Howard) nails it in his National Review article. King Louis-Barack and his family really know how to share your pain. The "we´re all in this together" seer of America´s hope and change takes our bucks and we keep the change. "Let them eat lentils" is Michelle Antoinette´s airy solution to her growing food-stamp constituency (is M-Antoinette embarrassed at the girth of her loyal cohort?).

The lousy March jobs report jolted financial markets Friday, and understandably so. In a trend that has defined this weakest of all modern economic recoveries, the jobless rate keeps falling but largely because the labor force keeps shrinking. The unemployment rate fell to a new four-year low of 7.6%, from 7.7% in February. Good news, except the main reason for the decline was that nearly half a million Americans (496,000) left the civilian labor force. They retired, quit working, went back to school or gave up looking for work. The economy created a net 88,000 new jobs

THE elementary-school shootings in Newtown, Conn., in December produced two polar public reactions: fear among some Americans that the federal government will restrict gun rights, and hope among others that it will actually do so. Colorado, New York State and, most recently, Connecticut have clamped down on guns, while states like Texas, where I live, are considering legislation that would try to block the enforcement of federal gun regulations. The uncertain approach to guns is good for no one, except perhaps for gunmakers, whose sales have skyrocketed. Lost in this confusion and anxiety is the possibility

Politics: Democrats were quick to blame the anemic March jobs number on the "sequester" spending cuts. If that were the case, what explains the previous four years of lousy job growth under Obama? At 88,000, the jobs growth in March was well below expectations. And while the unemployment rate dropped, that was the result of hundreds of thousands dropping out of the labor force who as a result aren´t counted as unemployed. Democrats, of course, tried to pin the blame for this on Republicans for allegedly pushing austerity measures. White House economic adviser Alan Krueger complained

But then came Friday’s jobs report, and hopes were dashed. The Labor Department reported that the U.S. labor force — everyone who has a job or is looking for one — shrank
