She shares some culpability unless they spiked her applejuice or milk. They should not have done it, but people need to learn not to put themselves in bad situations. At least we live in a world where these kids will tell on themselves via social media.

i´m confused... does Seventeen magazine promote rape? does Time condone sexual assault on an incapacitated person? OP may need to learn some distinctions...

OP may have worded it poorly, but I read their comment as saying that "Seventeen" magazine encourages young girls to get into situations where young men are likely to think that they are consenting to sex, even when they are not.

#1 - she was 16. Not exactly the age of enlightenment. Just because you´re young and stupid does not give other young and stupids a license to violate you.

I look at these young men and wonder if it ever occured to them that actions have consequences? Today there seems to be no teachings that choices result in consequences.

Sadly, the same thing happens every weekend all over America.

Stupid girls get drunk. Stupid drunk boys take advantage of them. Most of the time, nobody even remembers the next day. Even the girls that think it might have happened to them last night go out and get drunk the next weekend.

No God in schools. No God in too many homes. Broken homes and way too many single parents raising kids. No real suprise that this is way too much of ´´the norm´´ for America´s teenagers...

Waiting for the race card/appeal to be played by the black defendant. Saw local news where reporter asked him "What were people saying that scared you?" His response: "Hang ´em!"

If there wasn´t a white defendant this would have been nuclear. There was and guilty verdict ensued. Punishment, however, was/is light.

Any 16 year old girl should know right from wrong. They are taught sex education from elementary school on. I can´t feel too sorry for her. I don´t feel sorry for the boys either. Where did they get the alcohol? Who is being charged with that? Kids are now friends with their parents. No controls placed on them. Parents stopped being parents years ago when hippies took over their time of fame.

The victim of a sexual assault can be victimized a second time when images and rumors about her ricochet across her peer group — and a third time when they find a global audience on the Internet.

It strikes me as ironic that it was the global audience that helped her get the conviction.

There was more than enough stupid to go around this time. We must not be ashamed to teach our children right from wrong. Time Magazine mocks those of use who do.

on the bright side, as soon as these boys get out they can look forward to being hired as authoritative Sexologists at any East Coast university.

Of course it occurred to everyone here that the social media which supposedly ´won´ the case is nothing more (nor less) than the social controls over aberrant behavior that we older folk grew up with.

If your moral upbringing (read conscience) did not prevent you from harming another, the fear of being prevented or reported by your neighbors and onlookers did.

I welcome the use/threat of use of social media to replace/supplement the social conscience.
