CPAC 2013: Ted Cruz urges
conservatives to stand up
for the U.S. Constitution

Washington Times, by Seth McLaughlin

Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas closed out the annual Conservative Political Action Conference by calling on the thousands of people in attendance to join him in standing up for the U.S. Constitution. Mr. Cruz also poked fun at Sen. John McCain of Arizona, who labeled him and Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky as “wacko birds” because of the outspoken brand of politics they’ve brought to Capitol Hill. “I have to admit when Rand and I first heard that we thought it was a new kind of drone, ” Mr. Cruz said. “But if standing

I loved his speech. He seemed honest and credible, and he almost seemed to not need the prompting.

I notice that some sites were complaining that he said nothing new, but I thought he was good. All in all, I thought the conference was good. I just hope someone besides US saw it.

It WAS good. You know, anyone else notice how weird the FOX anchors acted at end of speech? It was like they couldn´t bring themselves to just SAY it was well-done, a hit with the audience, etc. Are they TOLD to keep positive comments to a minimum when it comes to conservatives???

We just watched the DVR´d version. WOW! I am blown away with this man´s speech, its content and the audience. No notes, no Tele-Promp-Ter, just plain spoken good sense.

That said, Sarah and Dr. Carson and so many others were terrific. An embarrassment of riches? You bet! Will we squander it? I hope not.

That straw vote should not be taken before everyone has spoken and any votes for people who weren´t there should be disallowed , as with Christie. That said, Rand is proving himself a force to reckon with,- I´m still not wholly convinced of Rubio though I love his energy and style. We have a deep bench and knowing Sarah is out there rooting for good people in the heartland and wonderfully unafraid to stick it to both Obama and the beltway establishment alike, gives us reason to become positive once more.

If fat RINO Christie came in third and Cruz came in third, that tells me that there´s something wrong with these people.

While the left sits around and handwrings over Hillary or MO for 2016,the GOP has an abundance of riches bench. The problem is they still don´t have a home run hitter.I think Christie had the potential to be the home run hitter but he blew it out of desperation for federal money to come rolling in after Sandy. If he was a seasoned politician he would have given Obama his due as president and drew the line there.A seasoned politician would have also known that federal bureaucratic red tape takes forever, regardless of what a liar like Obama says.

Our country has been adrift for so long that talk of the Constitution sounds radical. The thought of states rights seems bizarre.

The Washington politicians think that they run this country and we are their subjects. The RINOs think the only voices that should be heard are those who have put in their time in the house and senate and worked their way up the ladder. These new guys are taking a chain saw to the ladder. They are my heroes!

I like the comment, #9. I think of the Young Guns as Eric Cantor and Paul Ryan. I think of Cruz, Rubio and Rand Paul as using a Machete to slash through all the foolishness and get right to the core of the problem. THEY are going to be the people to pay attention to, not McCain or McConnell or any of the other " Old Dogs" in Congress! They are happy with things the way they are and do not want any Upstart to come along and rock their boat. Well, man the Lifeboats because they´re about to go overboard and these "Upstarts" are the guys who are about to throw them out of their plush little boats! Should be a good show!

Much of the speech Cruz gave was similar to the speech he gave at 11 pm during the filibuster by Rand Paul. On that night I was so enthralled with the speech by Cruz I was wishing all of the LIV could be forced to watch. I was glad to hear him repeat the message to another audience.
The reaction / sputtering by the Fox News anchor was pretty weird. I turn off Fox after noon on the weekends because many of their male anchors are liberals in those time slots. It´s also a good time to get the yard work done because I don´t feel like I am missing anything.

When you are telling the truth you don´t need a teleprompter to remind you to hide what you really think!

Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, Rand Paul and the "new guy," Dr. Ben Carson, all have the ability to make a clear concise sentence - even a whole speech - without a teleprompter.

OTOH, try to recall even one clear and coherent answer to an unscripted question by Ø in any public forum in his known history.....

I find it remarkable and instructive that the very people that Dimocrits claim conservatives marginalize, use, and abuse are fast becoming the primary faces and voices of true conservatism. It scalds their butts that the very words of the Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution are used by those who are supposed to be suppressed by the implementation of those very documents.

Immigrants, legal immigrants, realize that conservative principles are the bedrock of success. Progressive policy leads to tyranny and the destruction not only of majority rights and freedoms, but EVERYONE´S rights and freedoms.

I look forward to being led by competent, patriotic, first and second generation Americans - not Latin Americans, not African Americans - but true blue Americans! Lead the way Ben and Ted! I´m ready to follow real leaders with real ideas that really work!

IMHO Sara Palin understands what she can do and what she can´t. She can not win a national election with the MSN reporting that she killed a polar bear while refilling her SUV. What she can (AND WHAT SHE IS DOING) is supporting candidates who are principled conservatives at the expense of the ESTABLISHMENT Republicans.

I admired Cruz for his staunch support of Rand Paul during the filibuster. Their loyalty is inspiring in comparison to the dirty campaign Romney ran. If Romney had attacked Obama in the way he had attacked fellow Republicans, he would be in the oval office today.

Both Cruz and Paul strike me as presidental candidates who are able and willing to get down in the mud and fight their junkyard dog opponents.

Senate defeats expansion of gun rights

The Senate beat back a new push to expand gun rights Wednesday, defeating a plan to let gun owners carry their weapons on federal lands in states where it would otherwise be legal. Still, Wednesday’s vote drew more support than last month’s efforts to impose new gun controls in the wake of the Sandy Hook shooting, suggesting that Second Amendment supporters retain the momentum in the gun debate. The 56-43 vote was four shy of the 60 needed to be adopted under Senate rules. At stake was the ability

The White House on Wednesday stood by its story that the Obama administration remained unsure exactly who was responsible for the attack on the U.S. diplomatic post in Benghazi nearly five days after it occurred even though new revelations show Ansar al-Sharia’s direct involvement. Gregory Hicks, the deputy chief of mission at the U.S. Embassy in Libya and a self-described whistleblower, testified before a Congressional committee Wednesday that the body of Ambassador J. Christpher Stevens was missing for hours during the attack after being dragged out of the diplomatic post in Benghazi.

Three State Department officials provided a riveting, emotional account of last year’s fatal attack on U.S. installations in eastern Libya on Wednesday as they charged senior government officials with withholding embarrassing facts and failing to take enough responsibility for security lapses. The testimony provided new details on the Sept. 11, 2012, assaults on U.S. installations in Benghazi and their aftermath. But the new information failed to break the political logjam the attacks spawned, with Republicans and Democrats offering starkly different interpretations of what happened and who within the U.S. government is to blame.

Thirty-one months ago Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell affronted the media and other custodians of propriety by saying something common-sensical. On Oct. 23, 2010, he said: “The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president.” He meant that America needed conservative change from the statist course of Obama’s presidency (the stimulus, Obamacare, etc.), therefore America needed a president who would not veto such change. By similar reasoning, Obama today could sensibly say, and probably has said to himself

The Republicans mishandled the Benghazi whistleblowers’ hearing. What should have been stretched across several days to give the nation time to digest it all, was instead packed into a single day filled with an overwhelming amount of information. The media’s attention span is not that long. The verdict in the Jodi Arias trial came along in the afternoon and blew Benghazi off the networks, most of which didn’t want to cover it at all. Even Fox joined the drive-by media, taking Benghazi off the air in favor of the irrelevant Arias trial

Today’s Benghazi hearing had many dramatic moments and added significantly to our knowledge of that disaster. For example, we now know that there were multiple instances when special ops would-be rescuers were told to stand down, leading Lt. Col. Gibson to tell Greg Hicks, “This is the first time in my career that a diplomat has more balls than somebody in the military.” Obvious questions remain to be answered: Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton hide behind the military, saying or implying that doing nothing to try to save the besieged Americans in Benghazi

Democrats arrived at the House Oversight Committee’s hearing on the Benghazi terror attack determined to defend the reputation of the person that most believe will be their presidential candidate in 2016. Ranking member Elijah Cummings and his colleagues thundered at Chair Darrel Issa and any other Republican who dared to raise questions about the way the State Department responded not only to the attack but also to questions about the aftermath, determined to cast the entire event as a partisan ambush. But the testimony of the three whistleblowers overshadowed their complaints

After four years of trillion-dollar deficits, the red ink is receding rapidly in Washington, easing pressure on policymakers but shattering hopes for a summertime budget deal. Federal tax revenue is up and spending is down thanks to an improving economy, tax hikes enacted in January and the automatic budget cuts known as the sequester. When it first became clear that the CIA’s Benghazi talking points had been altered, many of us viewed the White House as the prime suspect. After all, it served President Obama’s political purposes to claim, at the height of a political campaign in which he was taking credit for the fall of al Qaeda, that the death of a U.S. ambassador was down to spontaneous outrage over a video, rather than pre-planned terrorism. It turns out, however, that the State Department was the prime culprit. It was State that pushed back hard against the original talking points.

Republican lawmakers, who have spent months seeking to tie President Obama to last year’s deadly attack on the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi, are increasingly focusing their probe on a new target: former secretary of state Hillary Rodham Clinton. The GOP-led investigation of the Sept. 11, 2012, assaults that killed U.S. Ambassador J. There was tragic incompetence, plainly, in the Obama administration’s handling of the Benghazi attacks, and even possibly some political calculation. It is a record that may well come to haunt Hillary Clinton, the first Secretary of State to lose an ambassador in the field in more than three decades, if she runs for president in 2016.
