| Sen. Rand Paul won the 2013 Washington Times-CPAC presidential preference straw poll Saturday, and Sen. Marco Rubio was a close second, easily outdistancing the rest of the field and signaling the rise of a new generation of conservative leaders who will take the Republican Party into the 2016 election. Mr. Paul won 25 percent of the vote, and Mr. Rubio collected 23 percent. Former Sen. Rick Santorum was third with just 8 percent, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie — who was not invited to speak at the three-day Conservative Political Action Conference —

Key word for Christie = "Conservative" PAC. Get the hint guvnah? So now that Paul and Rubio seem to be front runners, the left will just stop cryin and start fryin these two like a pair of fresh caught catfish. They will be continuously portrayed as hating poor people, being only for the rich, racists, and totally against all gays. Sadly everyone will believe every word of it.

I´m not sure why one would assume Karl Rove disdains Rubio, Cruz or Paul, #4.
I do find it odd that Santorum still ranks so high and I´m puzzled why Cruz wasn´t higher. It´s going to be a good three years until the primaries begin shaping up. I love our bench.

While Rand Paul deserves high marks for the filibuster, I´m afraid he doesn´t have the personality to be a good presidential candidate. Cruz is more Reagan-like and even more intelligent. The GOP has to realize that they need a candidate who is not only right on the issues, but one who the public can connect with. Unfortunately, neither Romney nor his running mate were .

All the speakers were notable, and Cruz just added icing to the cake, iMO. I was encouraged by the 10 "under 40" speakers this afternoon, as well. They won´t get much press, but we need to know who they are.
I´m not willing to speculate on a candidate for 2016; it´s way too early, and anything can happen between no and then. Rather, our focus should be on 0bama, who is absolutely out of control. It´s time to put the screws to the GOP leadership. Man up and show leadership. We´re sick and tired of your excuses for not reigning in the lunatic in the Oval Office.

Way too early for any poll. Romney won the straw poll at CPAC last year--cost a pretty penny and lots of buses to bus in the student.

Many of us are hungry for strong and passionate speeches and statements on just what this country (we citizens) are up against now that we have an autocrat in the White House.
Thanks to Rand Paul, Ted Cruz and others we are seeing some of it.
We don´t need to be tepid and restrained in our criticism of this administration. That´s what happened in our party during the run up to our last election.
It´s time to get forceful, strong and unapologetic about our views concerning our country´s downward direction. I´m tired of all this ´pussafootin´ around, hoping we don´t offend this group or that, or - heaven forbid - this president. He offends me just about every day.

Let´s enjoy our NEW leaders and their attempt to Save America.....
Our new crop of conservatives is an energizing push into the election of 2014...
Wasn´t it "great" to here Sarah speak again? What a fabulous woman!! Remember what she told her daughter when she missed a shot with her rifle -- "just reload"....
So -- my fellow conservatives -- let´s reload our Constitutional message to our neighbors and friends. It´s grass roots time again -- just like in the 2010 election....

I like all of our new crop of conservatives. I am not including Christie or MacDonald in that group. I am a Virginian and McDonald just raised at least seven taxes, the highest tax raise in recent history. He is another Bush 41. I really like Ted Cruz because of his focus on the Constitution and government. I have a feeling the Dems in the Senate will hear many questions from him about the Constitutionality of their legislative proposals in the coming years. I don´t know if his questions to senator Feinstein made the LSM this week, but it is a good way to push information about our Constitution toward the LIV should they watch the morning shows. It´s also a good way to get Dems to repeatedly show the public their disregard for our founding documents . That is Ted Cruz´s gift. Each of the new crowd of conservatives has a gift to offer, many are different gifts. All the gifts compliment the others and I am hoping the 2016 election does not get in the way of the all working together to move our message.

SEOUL -- South Korea´s Unification Minister Ryoo Kihl-jae said Monday there are signs that North Korea may be preparing for another nuclear test. In a meeting with lawmakers, the policymaker said that Seoul is aware of indications that another test is being planned, but he failed to go into details. The remarks came after a lawmaker citing unspecified reports said that there has been an increase in the movements of vehicles and personnel near the Punggye-ri test complex in North Hamgyong Province.

Today, Kim Jang-soo, South Korea’s new national security director, said North Korea may fire off a missile as soon as Wednesday. The launch will undoubtedly be a test of an intermediate-range missile, not an attack. North Korea last week moved two missiles, which were subsequently loaded onto mobile launchers, to its east coast. Many expect the missiles, which have been subsequently moved to hidden locations, will be fired in trajectories arcing over Japan. The Pentagon is not at the moment especially concerned about Pyongyang’s longest-range missile, the Taepodong-2, a variant of the successfully tested Unha-3 rocket.

North Korea’s young leader Kim Jong-un is waiting for United States President Barack Obama to make a phone call to Pyongyang to discuss easing tensions on the Korean peninsula, according to Russia’s news agency Itar-Tass. The report cited United Kingdom diplomats, saying Pyongyang was demanding the U.S. president personally call Kim Jong-un as one of the conditions to relieve the current conflict at hand. Itar-Tass also quoted the U.K.’s Sky News as saying North Korea currently has eight nuclear warheads.

South Korea is bracing for a protracted standoff with the North that could include at least one missile test-launch and a border skirmish. On Friday, North Korea attempted to heighten fears of military conflict when it told embassies in its capital, Pyongyang, that it could not guarantee the safety of their staff in the event of war. In another sign that it is determined to increase the pressure, Pyongyang extended a ban preventing South Korean officials from entering the Kaesong industrial complex – which it operates jointly with the South – for a fourth day.

Roll Call reports that Obama has now "given up" on Republicans as partners for helping him get some "governing done" in Washington DC. Of course, the Capitol Hill newspaper fails to show when it was that Obama ever consider the GOP to be his governing partner in the first place. Roll Call writer Steven T. Dennis claims that, "Obama already seems resigned to the reality" that he won´t be able to successfully initiate his massive re-tooling of America to reflect his left-wing agenda because the GOP isn´t interested in "bipartisan action."

BAGRAM AIR FIELD, Afghanistan -- The United States accepts that a diminished but resilient Taliban is likely to remain a military threat in some parts of Afghanistan long after U.S. troops complete their combat mission next year, the top U.S. military officer said Sunday. The White House tried Sunday to win support for President Obama’s forthcoming budget, arguing the plan is a balanced approach to economic prosperity and warning Republicans about stonewalling negotiations and pushing a “rejected” Romney plan. “Right now, the approach of many Republicans, particularly the leadership in the House, is my way or the highway,” senior White House adviser Dan Pfeiffer told “Fox News Sunday.” “Their view is the only acceptable plan is to try to … essentially enact the Romney economic plan. The American people rejected that, and Republicans shouldn´t be doubling down on it.”

A fundamental principle in medicine is that if you get the diagnosis wrong, you´ll probably apply the wrong therapy. A corollary is that if the therapy isn´t working, increasing the dose may make things worse. That´s where we are with ObamaCare. There are shortcomings aplenty in the health-care field, and changes and improvements are required. But never have I seen so many good intentions leading irreversibly to hell. Personal experience is by its nature parochial. Yet when it invalidates much of what passes for wisdom, there may be value in sharing it. Here are some facts that may illuminate

In 1927, Jozef Stalin summoned the Russian neurologist Bekhterev to give a medical examination of the dictator. Later that day, Bekhterev returned to a medical meeting and told colleagues, "I have just examined a paranoiac with a short, dry hand." Stalin´s left arm was shorter and weaker than the other. The following day, Bekhterev was poisoned and died. He was killed for calling Stalin a "paranoiac." Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise. Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs. People aren’t saying they don’t believe in God. They’re saying they don’t believe in religion. They are not rejecting Christ. They are rejecting the church. This begs the question, “Why are we losing our religion?”

Ms. Smith first relayed how her son, prior to the attack, requested additional security in advance and warned the State Department: He did tell them, ahead of time, he typed it into his little typewriter over there,

Put out an all-points bulletin: Millions of Americans have gone missing from the workforce. Every month that those would-be workers are gone raises the odds that they might never come back, dimming the prospects for future economic growth. The vanishing trend is more than a decade old, but it accelerated during the Great Recession. Throughout 2012, economists held out hope that it had stopped. But then came Friday’s jobs report, and hopes were dashed. The Labor Department reported that the U.S. labor force — everyone who has a job or is looking for one — shrank

Her betrayal consists of being gauche enough to acknowledge publicly a truth that everyone who’s come up through Ivy League culture knows intuitively —

The case of a same-sex Connecticut couple accused of repeatedly raping and abusing two of their nine adopted boys is headed for trial. Married couple George Harasz and Douglas Wirth of Glastonbury were supposed to be sentenced Friday in Hartford Superior Court under a plea deal, but instead withdrew from their agreement with prosecutors. The men had already pleaded no contest in January to one felony count each of risk of injury to a minor — a reduction from even more serious charges related to sexual assault....
