Perhaps Pope Francis is hoping to follow in the steps of Francis Xavier. Conversion of non-christians. I hope he is not turning his back on the seriously wounded church here in the USA.

Can ´t read past the "social justice" part. Social justice means that everyone (except the elite permanent ruling class) is brought low and equal in their misery. Is this really what the new pope of the people would want?

#2 ´Social justice´ is a term frequently misused by the left but there is a decent tradition of it in the Church if you do it right. Don´t read the rubbish the left says about this, read Michael Novak´s writings on the topic. Those, I am sure, are the ones Pope Francis follows.

#2 expresses a commonly held, but incorrect, view. Namely, that "social justice" is the same thing as "socialism." The Left certainly believes that. They also want everyone else to believe that as well. Therefore, tt is important that those of us on the Right not accept the Left´s definition and push back.

For example, if it is social justice to give poor children a basic education, then it is actually MORE just to do so by empowering their parents (through voucher´s, charter schools, etc.) to send them to the schools the parents think are best for their children, and LESS just to simply treat poor children like a herd of cattle shoved into assigned government schools run for the benefit of teacher unions, not children.

Dinesh D´Souza illustrated it perfectly. Social justice is when you voluntarily share your sandwich with someone who is hungry. Socialism is when the government makes you do it. "There is no more component in the latter," he said.
