| The House on Friday rejected a Democratic push to raise the federal minimum wage to $10.10, shooting down one of President Obama’s priorities from his State of the Union speech. The 233-184 defeat also exposed divisions within the Democratic Party. Where Mr. Obama called for a hike from the current $7.25 to $9 an hour, congressional Democrats pushed for a $10.10 rate. But they couldn’t muster unity even within their own ranks. Six Democrats from conservative-leaning districts voted against the wage increase, as did every single Republican who was present. “We need jobs out there.

On top of the new Obamacare cost increases that businesses must pay, an increase in the minimum wage would have finished off may businesses. Businesses would have a choice between raising the cost of their products to pay for all of these new government imposed goodies for employees, or closing their doors. Businesses are in business to make money, not be instruments in failed Democrat social engineering experiments.

At least the House of Representatives has some sense. In NY, the demonrat Assembly passed a minimum wage bill to $9/hour and tied it to inflation. It is now in the Senate which basically is controlled by republicans by one vote (someone crossed the aisle). If the Senate approves, I foresee a mass exodus of business (what´s left) out of NY.

Is the Constitution becoming the left´s new target? That thought struck me the other night over dinner with my liberal friend, a lawyer and part-time professor. Among his choice statements, "Maybe it´s time to get rid of the Constitution and start over." No doubt he was echoing the sentiments of Georgetown law professor, Louis Michael Seidman, who suggested just that in a New York Times op-ed. It´s been several weeks since Seidman made his remarks, and now, it appears, the floodgates are open. Liberals feel they can speak freely about their true intentions for our country.

For the first time in my adult life, I am not proud of the First Lady. Mrs. Obama is frequently compared to Marie Antoinette. She spends hundreds of millions of dollars a year on her own pleasure and aggrandizement while urging the peasants to plant gardens. The lousy March jobs report jolted financial markets Friday, and understandably so. In a trend that has defined this weakest of all modern economic recoveries, the jobless rate keeps falling but largely because the labor force keeps shrinking. A Connecticut shop that sold a gun to the Newtown school shooter´s mother has lost its federal firearms license. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives revoked the license of Riverview Gun Sales in East Windsor, about 15 miles north of Hartford, on December 20, and the 60-day time frame to appeal has expired. RUSH: Folks, I don´t know how else to categorize this. We are living in a dying country. I don´t know how else to categorize what´s happening -- 88,000 new jobs. The unemployment rate, because of a terrible statistic, is down to 7.6%. The number of people in this country who are not working is shameful. Ninety million Americans are no longer in the workforce. Ninety million. People not in the labor force grew by 663,000, and now 90 million. That´s the labor force participation rate. This is 1979 levels.
