I speak for the GOP base. The nonsense and perfidy that defeated us is starting again. At the CPAC, Rick Perry has identified Republicans who are no good in his eyes. Did we learn nothing? We spent months tearing down other Republicans and then were dismayed that people didn´t vote for them.

There are two major parties, us and them. We are good; they are bad. R. Reagan said
" Don´t speak ill of fellow Republicans". A thousand other clever words come to mind, but that does it.

Eschew ankle biting. Get together. Destroy the enemy. I have spoken.

Exactly right, #1. Perry is a good example. He is my governor and I have voted for him each time his name appeared on a ballot, but I abandoned any idea of supporting his ill-advised presidential run when he joined Newt Gingrich in attacking venture capitalism. Perry knew better, of course, but cynically grabbed an opportunity to make some political points. His biggest financial backer left the campaign because of the attack. I was saddened to hear Perry doing it again at CPAC.

I´m with you #1 and #2. Yes, I have voted for Perry each time; however, that doesn´t mean I agree with him on everything. In Texas, people with significant disabilities, those who will never be able to work a day in their lives, go on waiting lists that are 10 - 15 years long before they qualify for any sort of state assistance. The state can´t afford it, says Perry. Meanwhile, he finds the money to support building a Formula One race track in the Austin area. Sorry, that isn´t consistent with this Republican´s values.

This author and the posts above shows what the problem is. It is us CONSERVATIVES that are the base. Maybe if the moderates would stop fighting with us instead of the democrats we could accomplish something. We are the ones with the core convictions. What the moderates don´t get is when they try to look moderate and be liked, voters simply say I´ll vote for the democrat instead of the fake democrat.

They made the conscious choice to leave me and my mostly conservative beliefs behind. They quit me before I quit them. Now I am supposed to grovel like a battered wife begging for another chance. I think not.
They smacked their base around. Now they can live with the results.

I say conservatives WERE the base. No longer. The GOP will have to rely on republicans to win with the "winners" they choose, as conservatives will have no more of it.

Let me begin by saying that I have been a life long Republican and was never prouder of my party than during the 1980’s and the Presidency of Ronald Wilson Reagan; unfortunately that has changed over the past couple of decades.

Much to my dismay the party has continued to drift further and further to the left. As a result I made a decision several years ago to forgo any further donations of my time and money to a party that no longer represents my interests or views.

For example when the party leadership removes conservatives from party committee leadership positions and ridicules fellow office holders such as Rand Paul, violating Reagan’s 11th Commandment “Thou shalt not speak ill of any fellow Republican,” it only serves to further alienate conservatives like myself. Couple that with the stated policy of refusing to financially support conservative candidates and you project the image of a party at war with its base; perhaps the reason many conservatives stayed home in the last election.

As a result of these policies I have decided to financially support only those conservatives such as Rand Paul, Paul Ryan, Ted Cruz, Allen West and like minded individuals who believe as I do and stand up for The Constitution, The Bill of Rights and traditional conservative values.

Perhaps you could respond to my concerns, point out the error of my analysis and convince me to return to the fold; or is the party ready to write off a majority of its base and resign itself to the “ash heap of history?”

The only reason the Republicans have not won the presidency is that they have not run a conservative. McCain and Romney were RINOS. They may be honorable people, but they do not champion the small government, conservative principles. They have supported liberal ideas and programs that support nanny states. It also takes smart campaign strategy and organization. The guys like Rove, etc. don´t know how to get it done.
