Pope Francis: A
Disappointment for Catholics Who
Don´t Like Being Catholic

American Thinker, by Drew Belsky

Original Article

Posted By:magnante, 3/14/2013 8:26:32 AM

How can we tell that the conclave made a good decision in elevating Jorge Mario Bergoglio to the papacy? Exhibit A (through at least D): liberals are annoyed. But leftists´ problems with Pope Francis, well-emblazoned as they were within hours of the announcement, reveal some crucial truths about the Church that even many Catholics are loath to confront. When it came to Benedict XVI, the willfully uninformed chattering class had a field day -- rather, a field eight years

Beautifully written piece.

FTA "At MJ, (Mother Jones) we read, "I think this is a missed opportunity to bring the papacy closer to where the people are,"

The whole point of the Church is not to get closer to the people, but to bring the people closer to God.

IMO Pope Francis is a (divinely) inspired choice for pontiff. May God give him strength. He is going to need it.

If the liberal catholics had their way, they would have one of the dark knights of Sheol to be the pope. The liberal media is already taking orders from Hellboy and these cannot be that far behind. I am not a catholic, but if they take many more steps into the dark abyss, they will lose their faithful and all that will be left is these interested in the hellish quarrels of their moral lives.

We need an hardline Pope. Let the loosey-gooseys go. The Church will survive and grow stronger without them. May the Pope confront the muslim persecution of Christians worldwide immediately. Without the Eleventh Century Crusades, we would all be wearing burkhas and rags.

Very well written and very insightful...I´m hoping there are few non-Catholic, Catholics that will melt in his presence...starting with Nancy Pelosi, Joe Biden and John Kerry.

the job of the Pope is to keep the words of Christ not change the faith. I doubt seriously that Jesus would be for abortion or for the dismantling of the sacrament of marriage that He instituted. Even the most corrupt Popes could not change the faith so why don´t these secularists get it?

What Americans say in public about same-sex marriage isn´t necessarily a good barometer of public opinion, because, if we´re going to be honest, there´s a huge discrepancy between the opinions that Americans express in polls and the opinions they express at the polls.(snip)It´s important for Americans to understand that the same-sex marriage campaign is about the disenfranchisement of dissenters, not empowerment. The protests, the social media memes, the entire agenda is about demonizing opponents of same-sex marriage

Before America embarks on changing the concept of marriage, I hope they will at least agree on examining cultures that do not define marriage as a covenant between one man and one woman. In their eagerness to achieve their goals, the pro gay marriage enthusiasts are marching towards what they perceive as progress and modernity while ignoring lessons from other cultures, history, basic human nature and the horrific and negative unintended consequences of redefining "marriage". Islam´s definition of marriage is one man and up to four women

During the highly publicized exchange between Bill O´Reilly and Laura Ingraham on gay marriage, O´Reilly made this statement: "There are Bible thumpers, and all they do is say, ´I object to gay marriage because God objects to it.´ You don´t win a policy debate in America with that." Really? Before central control out of Washington was imposed in 2003, policy arguments for criminalizing homosexual acts were won explicitly "with that." And because of "that," the idea of gay marriage has been unthinkable throughout the history of the American nation.

It´s one thing for President Obama to be cocky and overstate his prowess at governing. People are used to politicians grabbing credit, and besides, you can always rationalize when it comes to explaining why things didn´t quite work out as you claimed they would - "the sequester ate my recovery" being the latest successful-enough example. But sports is something else. The basketball either goes through the hoop or it doesn´t. That´s why President Obama´s history of braggadocio regarding his prowess at hoops is having a potent effect on his overall public image, especially with those who are favorably inclined to him.

The CEO of Starbucks basically told a shareholder that if the shareholder believes in traditional marriage he should dump his Starbucks stock. Historically the job of the CEO has been to make money and increase shareholder value. Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise. Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs. People aren’t saying they don’t believe in God. They’re saying they don’t believe in religion. They are not rejecting Christ. They are rejecting the church. This begs the question, “Why are we losing our religion?”
