Nothing that I read in the article suggests Rand Paul is a RINO.

I think you´re mixing apples and oranges. A RINO goes against sound judgement and principles, to side with the left. Stating what one guesses to be needed to bringing young voters to your principles to get big government out of one´s life, is an entirely different thing.

"tolerant" AND "keeping the government out of people´s lives" - that doesn´t sound like a RINO to me. But......will John McCain say Paul is "smack on"? Why, just last week he was calling him "whacko".

I don´t much care what McCain thinks or says, but just last week Marco Rubio was being labeled "RINO" because he said Republicans have to be more tolerant. I agree with him, too. Smack on, as a matter of fact.

The GOP is missing a great opportunity to attract young, successful, self-motivated voters. Ron Paul and Rand Paul have huge appeal among young people who see socialism as a dead end. It´s too bad the GOP has such antipathy toward libertarian ideas.

He´s right, of course. To win in politics you need to actually like people - all kinds of people. Even those you think are wrong. You need a kind of optimism and intelligence to lead people and you need an excellent temperment.

Dear Rand,

We are tolerant, but tolerance is different than total acceptance and promotion of lifestyles that we do not want for our children. If our children were gay, of course we would accept it. Yes, we would be disappointed, because we would wish a life for them that would bring traditional marriage and children. If that were not to be, we would also tolerate with love their choice. We just do not believe that tradition must be eschewed for a minority of people who can live openly as they are without harm. If they wish civil unions, that is possible right now with a legal document.

Perhaps, like Mitch Daniels, Rand Paul wants a truce on the social issues. What other form of "tolerance" would bring in numbers of college-aged students? Most of them have zero grasp of fiscal issues.

Bear in mind that Ron Paul attracted droves of young guys because they thought he´d end war and make drugs legal, not because of his position on the Federal Reserve.

If you were a young person just reaching 18 who does not know crap about the way the world turns, who would you vote for, the seemingly mean guy who wants to withhold as many benefits and services as possible, or the seemingly reasonable guy to says that he just wants to use government to help everybody out?

Parse, ´´tolerant,´´ Paul, as these days the word has been transformed away from its original meaning by the, ´Progressives,´´ elitist lefty.lib pols who have also skewed many other words defined in the dictionary.

Republicans historically have not been nor could they have ben legitimately considered intolerant or else their Constitutional based policies would not have accomplished so much for Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness in the USA! Why would you try to paint the GOP with a BOGUS brush of intolerance?!

We had thought maybe he did not share all of Ron Paul´s Libertarian ideas as he has an engaging personality and has sparked soe positive attention to important issues. But, alas, Rand Paul has somewhat contained his chaotic Libertarian ideas but is now apparently beginning to test the waters & drag them out. -YIKES!!!
