Regrettable
Slate, by Tanner Colby

Original Article

Posted By:PageTurner, 3/12/2013 10:43:33 PM

A little more than a week ago, during an interview with Politico, Bob Woodward came forward to claim he’d been threatened in an email by a “senior White House official” for daring to reveal certain details about the negotiations over the budget sequester. The White House responded by releasing the email exchange Woodward was referring to, which turned out to be nothing more than a cordial exchange between the reporter and Obama’s economic adviser, Gene Sperling, who was clearly implying nothing more than that Woodward would “regret” taking a position that would soon be shown to be false.

Comments:
The Long March to Get Woodward for exposing the Obama myth continue apace. The JournOList listserv is still active and marching orders have been given.

When people know each other, they know each other. If my wife tells me I will regret something I have done, I know I am in big trouble. "Cordial" would not be the adjective of choice.

´Regret´, eh?

Reminds me of one of the opening scenes in the movie ´The Untouchables´:

Two thugs walk into a small mom-and-pop store. They say "Nice little shop you got here, Mrs. Kowalski. It would be too bad if it was to BURN DOWN."

The lady didn´t pick up on their tone and said "Oh, that´s not a problem. My husband just had sprinklers installed last week."

The thugs look at each other and repeat their earlier statement, louder.

The lady´s eyes get big as she catches on that she is to pay protection money so that the thugs won´t fire-bomb her store. She would ´regret´ not paying off the thugs...

The news that three female kidnapping victims had been held against their will for roughly a decade each has shocked Cleveland and the nation. But such cases are not without precedent. Elizabeth Smart, of Utah, was kidnapped at knife point at age 14 in 2002, sexually assaulted and held captive for nine months by a street preacher; Jaycee Dugard was kidnapped in South Lake Tahoe by a couple in 1981, when she was 11, and held for 18 years in tents and a shack in their back yard. Both Smart and Dugard said Tuesday that the three women,

CARACAS, Venezuela -- Venezuela brushed off criticism from President Barack Obama on Sunday and maintained its accusation that an American detainee in Caracas is a spy pretending to be a filmmaker. During his visit to Latin America, Obama said on Saturday the allegations against Tim Tracy, 35, were "ridiculous." This came a day after Venezuela´s new socialist leader, Nicolas Maduro, labeled Obama "the grand chief of devils." Venezuelan Interior Minister Miguel Rodriguez Torres insisted that intelligence agents tracking Tracy since late 2012 had uncovered ample evidence he was plotting with militant anti-government factions to destabilize Venezuela with violence.

The first couple of evenings there was just me and a middle-aged couple swimming decorously up and down. On the third day it changed. There were three more people, spread out at the shallow end. You would not have thought that an extra three people in a decent-sized pool could have caused such irritation and havoc. They contrived to occupy an inordinate amount of space and move around in a way that caused maximum disruption. Sometimes they swam widths; sometimes diagonals. They would stop and change direction without warning.

Unaddressed is a more urgent issue — Mexico´s lack of coop eration with the U.S. in its war on cartels. This deserves far greater attention than it´s getting, given that Mexico, beneath the happy handshakes, is pretty much kicking critical U.S. forces out of the country. According to a report in Sunday´s New York Times, Mexico has stopped sending its high-ranking officers to the U.S. to be polygraphed, a key way to weed out corrupted officials from high office.

Republican lawmakers, who have spent months seeking to tie President Obama to last year’s deadly attack on the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi, are increasingly focusing their probe on a new target: former secretary of state Hillary Rodham Clinton. The GOP-led investigation of the Sept. 11, 2012, assaults that killed U.S. Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens and three others now centers heavily on the State Department and whether officials there deliberately misled the public about the nature of the assault. Three State Department officials are scheduled to testify before a House committee on Wednesday about the Benghazi attack and its aftermath.

There was tragic incompetence, plainly, in the Obama administration’s handling of the Benghazi attacks, and even possibly some political calculation. It is a record that may well come to haunt Hillary Clinton, the first Secretary of State to lose an ambassador in the field in more than three decades, if she runs for president in 2016. But the obvious Republican effort to turn this inquiry into the Democratic (Obama) version of the Iraq intelligence scandal that has tarred the GOP since the George W.
