California Seizes Guns as Owners Lose Right to Keep Arms

| Wearing bulletproof vests and carrying 40-caliber Glock pistols, nine California Justice Department agents assembled outside a ranch-style house in a suburb east of Los Angeles. They were looking for a gun owner who’d recently spent two days in a mental hospital. They knocked on the door and asked to come in. About 45 minutes later, they came away peacefully with three firearms. California is the only state that tracks and disarms people with legally registered guns who have lost the right to own them, according to Attorney General Kamala Harris. Almost 20,000 gun owners in the state are prohibited from possessing firearms, including convicted felons, those under a domestic violence restraining order or deemed mentally unstable.

This is why my wife or I will never tell our doctor we are feeling a little down, maybe a little depressed. Once that enters your record or you are prescribed a drug for a mental issue, you are susceptible to this kind of thing.

Heck, the popo in New Orleans seized weapons after Katrina just because they wanted to.

This is how it works: The govt. makes a law, and soon we learn when and where to speak our mind. Eventually we decide not to speak our mind anywhere. I already know that I should never tell anyone that I own a gun (if I did own a gun).

I own a gun, #3. In fact I own more than one, but I ain´t going to say how many. And there´s no way I will turn them in because the gubbermint wants ´em, or me not to have them.

FTA: Merely being in a database of registered gun owners and having a “disqualifying event,” such as a felony conviction or restraining order, isn’t sufficient evidence for a search warrant, Marsh said March 5 during raids in San Bernardino County. So the agents often must talk their way into a residence to look for weapons, he said.
Simple solution, don´t let jackboots in without a warrant.

so not only does the state of california already have a database of who has purchased a gun, they get to confiscate them and destroy them without compensation or hearing?

The prohibited person can’t have access to a firearm,” regardless of who the registered owner is, said Michelle Gregory, a spokeswoman for the attorney general’s office.
This could be used to disqualify an entire family. Also, note the team is entering without search warrants in many cases.
Also, Why do they take the ammunition if they already took the guns?

It´s one thing to be a convicted felon. But how is "mentally unstable" defined, and BY WHOM?
FTA: "Merely being in a database of registered gun owners and having a “disqualifying event,” such as a felony conviction or restraining order, isn’t sufficient evidence for a search warrant......So the agents often must talk their way into a residence to look for weapons, he said."
"talk their way in"? If they don´t have a search warrant they have no f****** business going to someone´s door!

So HIPPA alls the goobernment to know citizen´s mental health records. How about that! IF any of us disclosed confidential mental health information, we go to jail. But the goobernment can get its hands on any and all our records and then do to us whatever the goobernment wants. I don´t even think Hitler had this much control.

Mentally unstable? Engaged in combat?
The definitions accumulate. This administration can soon just pick a number from one to a thousand and what ever comes up will be what they will use.

Those New Orleans government thugs seized guns from law-abiding homeowners during Katrina because armed mobs of thugs were invading and robbing homes and the government didn´t want them to be inconvenienced.

Diane Feinstein bought a gun when her husband was dying of cancer. One would think she was depressed and emotionally unstable at that time. Some reporter should ask her about that.

Even if the list of disqualifying events made perfect sense, that list can be changed at the whim of bureaucrats. It already has. Look at the Lautenbrg amendment for a good bad example. The list might change, but the registry will not disappear when it does. Whats legal today will be illegal tomorrow, and if your guns are registered there isnt a blessed thing you can do about it. Never trust these people. Never register.

Staff, please excuse the second reply. The longer I think about this story, the more disturbing it gets. It is simply dangerous that California seizes weapons from people who are in no way disqualified to own a gun. The final insult is that the gun owner is uncompensated. How can these tyrants get away with confiscation of private property? Has there been a court challenge to this oppressive law?
My gravest 2nd Amendment concern is that democrats have no limits. If dims take the House in 2014 obama and his creepy agents will have no constraints. Can anyone even conceptualize how far democrats will go with gun ownership restrictions if we lose the House? Grab a tight rein.

As Ayn Rand wrote, the government needs criminals in order to rule. Men who are not criminals cannot be ruled. Simple solution is to make laws that make all men criminals.....or something to that effect.

#19, in some states writing a bad check, even by accident, is a felony.
Sounds like they already have grounds to keep folks from owning guns based on their check-writing history.

I can’t put my finger on it, but I have this nagging feeling that Senator Dianne Feinstein’s assault weapons ban is not gone. My paranoia tells me the democrats are going to squeeze it through a “back door” somehow. There are those among gun right’s advocates who believe that having Feinstein’s assault weapons ban tacked onto another (a different) gun control bill, of some kind, will make it easier to pass the Senate. Consider this: “It’s a trap!

RUSH: Folks, I don´t know how else to categorize this. We are living in a dying country. I don´t know how else to categorize what´s happening -- 88,000 new jobs. The unemployment rate, because of a terrible statistic, is down to 7.6%. The number of people in this country who are not working is shameful. Ninety million Americans are no longer in the workforce. Ninety million. People not in the labor force grew by 663,000, and now 90 million. That´s the labor force participation rate. This is 1979 levels.

President Obama´s biggest gaffe yesterday when speaking of California Attorney General Kamala Harris was not in flirtatiously complimenting her as "the best-looking attorney general," but in introducing an observation from the system of beauty into a forum that was about the system of power. What´s that, you say? Irin Carmon does a great job in Salon in laying out the bounds of propriety for when it´s appropriate to talk about a woman´s looks as a general matter. But I´ve long felt we lack a solid theoretical underpinning for easily discussing these issues, and why precisely it is that

Michelle Obama has admitted that she is already tired of the bangs she first sported in January. The First Lady said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight: ´Bangs are a day-by-day proposition. They´re starting to grow out, get a little irritating.´ Still, she hasn´t let her hairdo woes get her down. ´It´s okay,´ she said after her initial complaint. ´We´ll be good.´ The first indication that her hairstyle was becoming a burden came about last weekend, when Malia, 14, was spotted adjusting her mother´s hair during the White House Easter Egg Roll.

No one is more preoccupied these days with Hillary Clinton´s 2016 plans than the Beltway political class—not even the former presidential candidate herself. To hear some tell it, her decision will be dispositive for all other Democrats thinking of entering the race. And pundits and reporters aren´t the only ones positing the "The Hillary Factor": No less than the House Democratic whip, Steny Hoyer, told BuzzFeed, “I don´t know that anybody would run against Hillary…. If she runs, she clears the field.” It´s an understandable conclusion, given Clinton´s stature in the Democratic Party and her 70 percent

I hope all will look at a lifetime of service over some poorly chosen words.” Carson will remain as commencement speaker at Johns Hopkins,

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton explained to the Women in the World summit in New York today that the clock is turning back for women in America. Clinton praised her own mother for helping empower her to success and marveled at the opportunities that her own daughter Chelsea has pursued. But Clinton warned that there is still so much to do to promote women´s rights in America. "As I look at all these young women that I am privileged to work with, or know through Chelsea, and its hard to imagine turning the clock on them," Clinton said.

The Obama White House is scrambling to blame Friday’s abysmal March jobs numbers on the sequester’s trimming of the rate of growth in federal budgets that have yet to fully commence. After the Labor Department announced that a mass exodus of 663,000 workers left the U.S. workforce last month and that job creation fell 112,000 jobs short of projections, Obama’s top economic adviser Alan B. Krueger, took to the White House blog to blame the sequester: It is important to bear in mind that the March household and payroll surveys are the first monthly surveys to look

On Friday, Sean Hannity brought Pat Smith, mother of the late Sean Smith, on his radio program. The 34-year-old information management officer was one of four Americans murdered in the Benghazi embassy attack on September 11, 2012. In the chilling interview, a distraught Ms. Smith, in tears, pleaded for answers and spoke of the efforts to silence her. Ms. Smith first relayed how her son, prior to the attack, requested additional security in advance and warned the State Department: He did tell them, ahead of time, he typed it into his little typewriter over there,

Put out an all-points bulletin: Millions of Americans have gone missing from the workforce. Every month that those would-be workers are gone raises the odds that they might never come back, dimming the prospects for future economic growth. The vanishing trend is more than a decade old, but it accelerated during the Great Recession. Throughout 2012, economists held out hope that it had stopped. But then came Friday’s jobs report, and hopes were dashed. The Labor Department reported that the U.S. labor force — everyone who has a job or is looking for one — shrank

SANFORD - Trayvon Martin´s parents have settled a wrongful death claim for an amount believed to be more than $1 million against the homeowners association of the Sanford subdivision where their teenage son was killed. Their attorney, Benjamin Crump, filed that paperwork at the Seminole County Courthouse, a portion of which was made public today. In the five pages of the settlement that were available for public review, the settlement amount had been marked out. Lower in the agreement, the parties specified that they would keep that amount confidential. When asked during an earlier interview whether the amount was
