Reminds me a little of some of these preachers who build gigantic churches, drive fancy cars, live in gated communities and maintain their lifestyles by reeling in naive, well-meaning, wealthy people (and not so wealthy) who willingly give them large amounts of money.

IMHO, there is something really wrong with priestly celibacy. It has nothing to do with Christianity. Until they undo that overzealous mistake, they will attract perverts, and the priesthood will continue to die of attrition.

Lent is the time of penance and forgiveness.

Let him who is without sin cast the first stone.

#4 you know not of what you speak. Celibacy is not the cause of perverted sexual acts. Allowing priests to marry would not have stopped the sexual abuse scandal, since the vast majority of abuse was against adolescent boys by homosexuals.

As a convert, I´m sorry that some Catholics are leaving the faith over the acts of a few, whether high up in the Vatican or not. As any Christian, I follow Jesus Christ and the Church he founded.

Those who become overwhelmed and leave, will be confronted with the same types of evil in whatever sect or group they end up with. Been there.

As a Baptist I want to see the Catholic Church continue choosing Popes who believe God is Who He says He is. Period. And, not engage in social engineering. We get that with Methodists, Presby USA, Episcopalians, and so many other denominations. Naturally, the Catholic Church is the one being attacked now. But, if the Pope is chosen through asking God to show the one He wants, then I think we will see a good one.

Here in MA we had a seminary out of which all the priests involved in abusing male children, issued. The place was notoriously run by homosexuals and when a new scandal erupted here in MA, you could always trace it back to that seminary.
When o´malley came into power here, he closed a number of churches and schools. He took the money he got from selling these places, and was supposed to be paying the victims. Many churches here in my state are closed and the ones that are still open are faltering. O´malley did NOTHING to heal the wound and he made sure that particular seminary remained open. I don´t want that man as the new pope.

Maciel was a major league creep. I was involved with Regnum Christi for a few years and know lots of others who were involved more than. I wouldn´t call this Catholic bashing. The allegations were there for years and the whole sordid mess finally came to full light shortly before Maciel´s death.

He hookwinked lots of good people. Met him once and let´s say I didn´t get very good vibes.
