Surprise: Mitt Romney Planned
Big Middle-Class Tax Hike

Investor´s Business Daily, by Jed Graham

Original Article

You probably never heard that Mitt Romney had a plan to raise taxes on the middle class, but it´s true. Just ask the Wall Street Journal editorial board. This pretty interesting fact apparently occurred to them a few weeks after Romney lost the election, as they were tackling the subject of entitlement reform. Progressive indexing of Social Security benefits — an approach embraced by Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan — "is tantamount to a tax increase," the WSJ said in no uncertain terms. Actually, during the heat of the campaign, the WSJ editorial writers seemed to heap praise on Romney for

I may be missing the point, but if this is the same argument I had with a friend, it would go something like this. ´They should tax the heck out of people making over $113,000.´ ´What difference would that make? If the millionaire pays more in, he will take more out. It´s an insurance program, not a retirement trust.´

Go for the volume and raise the retirement age, but first audit the heck out of the disability claims and the lawyers and doctors who milk that part of the program. Add a bounty to the crackdown and really save money starting today.

If your friend brought up that fallacy, I´m sure you´d correct him. Soc Security isn´t an insurance program, it´s a welfare program--or, if you prefer, transfer payment from the young to the old.

What you "get back" has little relation to what you "paid in," as Congress keeps adding benefits, adds people like heirs/spouses (who might not have "paid"), etc. It is just another government expense item.

Most adults realize that somewhere along the line taxes are going to have to be raised. The objection is to raising them without first getting a grip on spending. The unwillingness of Democrats to get serious about controlling spending makes nonsense of raising taxes. Additional revenues will simply be tossed into the hopper and used to worsen the underlying problem.

#2 Social Security IS NOT WELFARE! I have been paying top dollar into it for over 40 years, if I could have invested it I would have a lot better retirement then the pittance I will get from the government. WELFARE IT IS NOT, they took my money I just hope I can live to 150 to break even with what I could have gotten!

I´m not likely to get back anywhere near what I´ve put in, but I reckon some illegal immigrants grandparents will get to spend what I don´t collect! I´ve already apologized to my children for sticking them with the tab, but hey they cost me a small fortune when they were growing up so Mom and I don´t feel too guilty.

Agree with those who say Social Security is not welfare. However, I do have a problem with someone choosing to retire at the full or early retirement age, and receiving benefits for their children. It is a fact that the children of a normal retiree will receive benefits up to the age of 19+2 months.

Nowadays, with all these parents having children at very late ages, we will be paying for their children long into the parent´s retirement.

Social security is the trickle down return of money that was confiscated by law to the people from which it was confiscated.

Welfare is giving tax dollars to people who have "no skin in the game".

A new report reveals if Congress does not act to overhaul the country’s immigration system, the future could be bleak for businesses who depend on lower-skilled workers. The study, which was released during a Capitol Hill meeting co-hosted by the Partnership for a New American Economy, a bipartisan group of mayors and business leaders, and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, finds that while there is still a strong demand for low-skilled workers, the number of Americans willing to fill those low-skill jobs has dwindled dramatically during the last two decades. The report is yet another signal that the business community is not

Some conservatives are up in arms over a hurried Thursday vote on the so-called “doc fix” for Medicare, which they felt leadership tried to slip by them. The bill passed in a 30-second voice vote with very few members on the House floor. The “doc fix” is a temporary patch to prevent a 24 percent cut to the amount of money the government pays doctors who take care of Medicare patients. The cut will take effect on April 1 if Congress does not move to prevent it. Owing to the tight deadline, leadership opted to bring the bill straight to the floor “under

The United Nations´ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change will shortly publish the second part of its latest report, on the likely impact of climate change. Government representatives are meeting with scientists in Japan to sex up—sorry, rewrite—a summary of the scientists´ accounts of storms, droughts and diseases to come. But the actual report, known as AR5-WGII, is less frightening than its predecessor seven years ago. The 2007 report was riddled with errors about Himalayan glaciers, the Amazon rain forest, African agriculture, water shortages and other matters, all of which erred in the direction of alarm. You may have noticed that our friends on the left have begun to refer to the Koch brothers and other rich conservatives as "oligarchs." Like calling evangelicals "jihadists" and the tea party "racist," this comparison to the billionaires in Vladimir Putin´s circle is meant to stigmatize and marginalize these men politically and socially. This latest Saul Alinsky tactic got us thinking about who really qualifies as an American oligarch. If the definition is someone who becomes rich by association with government power and policies, and then assists those in power, the Kochs would barely make the list. Their companies are usually
