Five Guys: Obamacare will
boost burger prices

Washington Examiner, by Paul Bedard

Original Article

Posted By:ScarletPimpernel, 3/11/2013 7:25:11 PM

The fight over Obamacare, so far held at the 30,000-foot level, is about to hit home. The latest impact hot off the grill: prices of burgers and hot dogs at Five Guys, the national chain that started in Washington, are going to rise to cover the president´s mandated insurance coverage. "Any added costs are going to have to be passed on," said Mike Ruffer, a Five Guys franchise holder with eight of the popular restaurants in the Raleigh-Durham, N.C. area.

Comments:
Another previously thriving business is going to take a hit.

Zero the Worthless was keen on erecting signs to celebrate his "stimulus" spending, seems only right that businesses start adding an "Obamacare Surcharge" line on their bills.

Any who say no are stoopid.

I love Five Guys burgers and fries. I´ll continue to support them. None of this is their fault. One of my favorite BBQ restaurants closed because of Obamacare and Obama´s economy. The destruction of small businesses continues apace.

Said another way, I ate there once but I see no reason to ever eat there again. There are TOO MANY other places. Maybe it IS their fault if they are already raising their prices instead of cutting staff.

If they raise the prices of their milkshakes and fries it´ll hit Mooch right where she lives.

To survive, any business must pass on its costs to its customers. If you pay out more than you take in you go out of business and lay off all your employees...

Any retailer, food, service provider etc should LIST the extra costs due to Obamacare as a separate charge. Hamburger and fries ..... $5.99, Obamacare surtax $0.50.

If retailers did this across the nation, the low information voters would find out real fast just who is paying for all the "free" stuff. And democrats would be in real trouble, real quick. Come on guys! ....... break it out! Show your customers exactly why the price is going up! Show the "fuel" charges. Show the medicare...show the regulatory costs.....show the business license expense. You doctors.....list out the added charge due to malpractice insurance.

People think that business raises prices because they are greedy. Come on! Show your consumers that the city, county, state and federal government gets more of your profit than you do!

I am DEADLY serious about this!

If your a business owner, tired of being called greedy and told that you need to pay "your fair share", show your consumers and your employees just what it costs to run a business. Heck! Put up a poster listing your expenses!

Brace yourselves for the destruction that Obamacare does to our 150 year old family business...
Our ranch supports my husband, me, our five children and 18 grandchildren. Our business model does not allow us to raise prices to buyers, therefore the onerous cost of Obamacare must be found somewhere in our razor thin margin.
Rather than compromise our business or morals to support this communist program, my husband is forced to fire all of our family members and other full- time staff. We will have to hire non-family part time and seasonal workers to support our operation. And, yes, some of them will probably be "mojados".
Not only will my family be out of work, our family business is destroyed by that Muslim Communist in the White House.
How can this be the America I was raised in?

These guys (five brothers) invested a lot in this business. They seem to have a good business model, not too many employees at one time, a good product, decently fast service. They could hardly cut back on employees. They serve good food, at a reasonable price. Any one who takes a job with them knows the deal. But, I would pay more, if required. I don´t eat much meat, but I love their single cheeseburger with pickles, mustard, and jalapeños.

#4, if they cut staff as you suggest, they will have to give the rest more hours, resulting in having to provide insurance for the now full time employees. So how do you see cutting staff saving money?

Bingo # 14 - if they have to post calories, put it up on the menu

Burger and Fries $5.99

State and local tax .85

Cost added by Obamacare 1.35

Total cost of your Lunch $8.99

Goverement gets $2.20 of your lunch money.

Reminds you of the bully at school huh?

But they won´t have the guts to do it.

Not only will I be adding an Obamacare surcgharge I will be adding a fuel surcharge too. As fuel costs soar and stay above $4 a gallon and soon to be hitting close to $5 here in California with the new state fuel tax increase coming, and adding in my higher income tax rates and across the board material cost increases, it´s going to get ugly. I will have to lay people off, cut hours, sell some vehicles and scale back big time, and cater to only customers that can afford to pay the price and are willing to accept my high quality at whatever price it comes in at.

Remember when gas was 10 cents a gallon and went up to the ridiculous price of 25 cents per gallon?

All of this long before Obamacare.

Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise. Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs. People aren’t saying they don’t believe in God. They’re saying they don’t believe in religion. They are not rejecting Christ. They are rejecting the church. Gluten-free diets are all the rage, but they can be dangerous if not done right. What is gluten? It´s the spongy complex of proteins, found naturally in wheat, rye, and barley, that gives elasticity to dough and allows it to rise. When flour is moistened and either kneaded or mixed into dough, gluten molecules form an elastic, microscopic latticework that traps the carbon dioxide produced when yeast ferments, causing dough to inflate like a hot air balloon. Baking hardens the gluten, which helps the finished product keep its shape. Wheat — and gluten — is ubiquitous in the American diet.
