Missile Defense: As Pyongyang threatens a nuclear strike, the administration says our missile defenses can handle anything they can throw against us or our allies. If so it´s not because of anything the president did. ´I can tell you that the United States is fully capable of defending against any North Korean ballistic missile attack," White House spokesman Jay Carney said on Thursday after North Korea´s raging runt, Kim Jong-un, said Pyongyang was scrapping the 1953 armistice deal that ended the Korean War. He threatened a "preemptive" nuclear strike against the U.S.
Comments: The rockets red glare, slightly updatrd.
The fool Obama has taken the bait and fallen into the Nork/Chinese trap, because: Why should the US have to defend itself against a NKean nuclear attack at all, since NK is not supposed to posses any? 2) Obama is ignoring, has foresworn, or has vacated, his much earlier statement that NK will not be allowed to possess nuclear weapons. This is very bad stuff.
Before September 11, 2001, I don´t think our government was too worried about the Taliban launching missiles against us either. They hijacked our technology and killed 3,000 human beings. The north koreans aren´t stupid, they know we have ways to shoot down any missiles they might launch and surely have other ways to attack us. Either nuclear devices secreted around the country or biological weapons ready to be set off. Let´s think out of the box people, it´s not always bombs we have to worry about.
What is so horrible about defensive weapons anyway. I would think it is a step in the right direction since currently offensive weapons far outstrip defensive weapons. It would be good to have options in this when China is using N Korea as a proxy for war. It is just spin to be against weapons in space. Space is the high ground now and letting this go is another way of giving up the technological edge. Obama cancelled the defence initiative of Reagan just when it was coming online and most needed.
But what if the North Koreans give Obama a head fake, and instead deploy a nuclear weapon board a nondescript foreign ship that somehow manages to sail into some American harbor where the warhead is detonated, while Obama and crew are still awaiting a North Korean missile?
Junk Science: Al Gore, patron saint of climate fraud, argues with Australia´s prime minister that its brushfires are not caused by warming and that the record shows the koala bear, like the polar bear, is quite safe. They were the largest Australian bushfires in a populous region in recorded history, consuming half the state of Victoria, claiming 12 lives and destroying an estimated 1 million sheep and thousands of cattle. And they occurred in February 1851 during one of the coldest years on record. Bushfires have been part of Australian life for centuries
Energy: The Golden State´s governor has signed legislation that regulates but does not ban the technology that has sparked an energy boom nationwide — and which may yet restore the state to solvency. If any state were to ban hydraulic fracturing, commonly referred to as fracking, the process that releases oil and natural gas trapped in porous shale formations, one would think it would be California. Gov. Jerry Brown, who leads the government in a state that hosted Solyndra and embraces endangered bird-chopping wind turbines,
Scandal: A deadly battle involving grenades between a drug cartel and Mexican police has added to the toll of lives taken with weapons trafficked by suspects that U.S. officials watched but did not stop. The same Obama administration officials responsible for letting thousands of weapons walk into Mexico and right into the hands of drug cartels in Operation Fast and Furious also passed on several opportunities to arrest and prosecute an arms smuggler who was busy supplying the cartels with hand grenades. This according to a report by Sharyl Attkisson of CBS News, the one reporter
Corruption: The crash-prone government health-care site asks applicants if they want to register to vote as they try to sign up for ObamaCare. By sheer coincidence, a plurality of the uninsured are likely Democratic voters. Call it Motor Voter on steroids — the piggybacking of voter registration to an otherwise unrelated government function. Those trying to navigate Healthcare.gov, a website that looks and functions as if designed by the department of motor vehicles, are being asked if they want to register to vote just in time for crucial 2014 midterm elections
Regulation: From lost jobs to fewer hours to premium hikes that would make a loan shark drool, Barack Obama´s home state is a case study in why the first rule in health care reform, as in medicine, should be to do no harm. The president and his cohorts in the media have long accused Republicans of being out of touch with ordinary people. Remember the concocted story about President Bush the elder being so out of touch he was unfamiliar with supermarket bar-code scanners? But it´s President Obama who´s out of touch with ordinary people
Health Care: In a stunning admission, our Health and Human Services secretary admits ObamaCare is part of the fundamental transformation of America away from a free market in anything to a nanny state on steroids. Maybe Kathleen Sebelius was being sarcastic, or maybe she thought it might be a good way to reach the "young invincibles" who feel they had better things to do with their money than enroll in ObamaCare. But her recent appearance on Jon Stewart´s show on Comedy Central went about as well as ObamaCare´s train wreck of a rollout.
The Shutdown: Federal closure threatens to bar priests not on active duty from conducting services on military installations or from ministering on base, and they risk being arrested if they attempt to do so. The latest Obama shutdown shame is the news that, until it´s over, none of the families of those killed in Afghanistan can expect to receive the $100,000 death gratuity promised to reach them within 24 to 36 hours. Grieving families also cannot expect the military to cover all the usual costs of family travel to meet their loved ones at Dover Air Force Base where they return
Global Warming: Temperatures have flat-lined for 15 years, the Arctic and Antarctic are gaining record amounts of ice, most computer models have been wrong, yet the networks are buying into the alarmists´ narrative. Earth might not have a fever but the media do, judging by their hyperventilating about the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change´s quite fraudulent report (Fifth Assessment Report or 5AR) released Sept. 27. One network — CBS— even turned a blind eye to the truth and claimed that temperatures "could have risen by more than 200 degrees." This fiction came from CBS´ Ben Tracy
A confirmed atheist when he was 15, C.S. Lewis came around to believing in God when he was 31. "I knelt and prayed: perhaps, that night, the most dejected and reluctant convert in all England," he wrote in his autobiography, "Surprised by Joy." Soon he embraced Christianity. A lecturer at English universities, Lewis became a superstar author by explaining his faith and weaving it creatively into novels. Books including "Mere Christianity," "The Screwtape Letters," "That Hideous Strength" and the series "The Chronicles of Narnia" have sold a total of 200 million copies, but he wasn´t always popular.
Energy Revolution: America´s natural gas boom threatens Russia´s economic strategy, an expert says, leaving it with few alternatives to rescue its economy while threatening to shatter its energy stranglehold on Europe. Russia´s abundance of energy resources has long allowed it to use energy both as a foreign policy weapon and as the bedrock of the Russian economy. Whenever energy prices rose, Russia benefited and its neighbors often felt the restraining leash of dependence on Russian energy, particularly natural gas. Government-controlled energy giant Gazprom was in such a strong position it could demand decade-long contracts
Health Reform: Those icons of voter fraud have been tasked and paid to guide an unwilling public through the ObamaCare enrollment process — while getting access to confidential information on thousands of people seeking health insurance. Somehow it does not surprise us that among the conductors on the train wreck known as ObamaCare will be leftist agitators from President Obama´s beloved Acorn, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now. They´ll get up to $48 an hour as "navigators" to lead us through the dead-end ObamaCare maze. As Mathew Vadum reports on the American Spectator blog
ObamaCare: A group of nuns dedicated to caring for the elderly poor is suing to prevent an uncaring administration from shutting down their compassionate order over their refusal to obey the contraception mandate. There is no clearer or sadder example of the Obama administration´s war on the First Amendment´s guarantee of religious liberty than the demand by the Department of Health and Human Services to violate their religious consciences or pay heavy fines. HHS has ruled that if the Sisters don´t offer insurance policies to their employees that include free coverage for sterilization procedures
Sen. John McCain’s daughter says that her father is “depressed” and “frustrated” with the impact the “hyper-conservative wing of the party” is having on national politics, including on the recent government shutdown. “We’re both frustrated with the idea that only the hyper-conservative wing of the party is going to represent the masses,” Meghan McCain said in a joint interview with ABC and Yahoo News. Ms. McCain, who has her own reality show “Raising McCain,” said the last time she can remember her father was so depressed about the state of politics was after his failed 2008 presidential bid. “He is
First Lady Michelle Obama’s Princeton classmate is a top executive at the company that earned the no-bid contract to build the failed Obamacare website. Toni Townes-Whitley, Princeton class of ’85, is senior vice president at CGI Federal, which earned the no-bid contract to build the $678 million Obamacare enrollment website at Healthcare.gov. CGI Federal is the U.S. arm of a Canadian company. Townes-Whitley and her Princeton classmate Michelle Obama are both members of the Association of Black Princeton Alumni.
New York voters, in all their wisdom, are on the verge of electing a Left-wing extremist named Bill de Blasio. Recent polls by the firm Penn Schoen Berland show that de Blasio maintains a commanding lead, which he’s enjoyed for quite some time. What a shame. New York City is one of the most important economies in the United States, and it will certainly suffer under this man’s vague and childish populism.[Snip] Earlier this year, we learned that in his youth (described by the New York Times, of course, as “idealist”) de Blasio was an ardent supporter of the Sandinistas
President Obama blasted GOP opponents of his healthcare law as hypocrites after Republicans expressed concerns about the rocky rollout of HealthCare.gov. In his weekly address, Obama suggested that the GOP´s focus on the issue was in bad faith because Republicans have pushed for years to repeal, defund or dismantle ObamaCare. Republicans "spent the last few years so obsessed with denying … people access to health insurance that they just shut down the government and threatened default over it," Obama said. "It´s well past the time for folks to stop rooting for [the law´s] failure." Obama´s comments come after a tough
HOUSTON, — President Obama’s legacy may include a stake in the heart of a cherished dream of the progressive left: complete government control of healthcare in America. Obama has always wanted a single-payer, government-run healthcare system, and he set out a complicated but achievable path to get to that goal through Obamacare. The eventual failure of Obamacare would set the stage for single-payer healthcare. Unfortunately for him, he designed Obamacare to fail in the wrong ways at the wrong times, making it harder, not easier to achieve his goal of completely socialized healthcare. If Obamacare dies an early and spectacular failure, it will
WASHINGTON — Whether miffed over spying revelations or feeling sold out by U.S. moves in the Middle East, some of the United States’ closest allies are so upset that the Obama administration has gone into damage-control mode to ensure the rifts don’t widen and threaten critical partnerships. The quarrels differ in their causes and degrees of seriousness. As a whole, however, they pose a new foreign policy headache for an administration whose overseas track record is seen in many quarters at home and abroad as reactive and lacking direction. In Europe and the Middle East, rifts that once would’ve been quietly smoothed
Just how bad was the shutdown for America´s image on the world stage? So bad, says Secretary of State John Kerry, that foreign officials joked about buying him meals. "I have seen how our allies, our partners and those who wish to challenge us or to do us harm are all sizing us up every day," Kerry said at an event hosted by Center for American Progress, a liberal think tank. "What we do in Washington matters deeply…that´s why a self-inflicted wound like the shutdown can never happen again." Kerry added that the shutdown delayed security aid to Israel. "The dysfunction and
Shepard Smith, the endlessly endearing (and easily angered) Fox News anchor, has likened the right-wing channel to a “family,” with president Roger Ailes as its domineering father. Which makes it only slightly awkward that in early 2012, the 49-year-old anchor started courting an attractive young production assistant who worked under him on Fox Report With Shepard Smith. Now they are a couple. Gawker has learned that Smith is dating a 26-year-old Penn State grad and Fox Business producer named Giovanni “Gio” Graziano. According to multiple sources with knowledge of their relationship, the couple met sometime after Graziano started working at Fox
Sarah Palin found a novel way to turn down an interview request from Piers Morgan on Friday, posting a picture on Facebook of a bear she had shot dead and a note saying she was busy. The former Alaska governor thanked chat show host Morgan for inviting her on his ´shambolic show´ but added she was ´kind of busy right now´. The Facebook message, which had been liked by nearly 3,000 of Palin´s supporters within two hours of it being posted, is part of an online spat between the pair after Morgan poked fun at her intellect. Earlier in the
McDonalds will end its 40-year, ketchup-based relationship with Heinz, the company announced on Friday, because Heinz´s new CEO, Bernardo Hees, is the former CEO of Burger King. He´s also still on Burger King´s board of directors. Now McDonalds is currently looking for a new ketchup maker to partner with once it phases Heinz out of its stores. Heinz supplies ketchup to both McDonalds (for now!) and Burger King, and to Wendy’s and Chick-fil-A. For McDonalds, at least, it seems that the new Burger King connection at Heinz was one step too far. McDonalds has taken a stand on ketchup. Except most
President Barack Obama--who oversees both the Department of Justice and the Department of Homeland Security--said in a speech at the White House on Thursday that it does not make sense to have 11 million people in the United States “illegally.” The president said that the people "illegally" in the United States need to be given an “incentive” to stay here and become what he called “legalized citizens.” “It doesn’t make sense to have 11 million people who are in this country illegally without any incentive or any way for them to come out of the shadows, get right with the law,
You know what´s relatively easy? Fixing a website. You know what´s really hard? Ensuring access to affordable, quality health insurance for every single American and improving our broken health care system in the process. In the back-and-forth about the Obamacare exchange websites, let´s not lose sight of the ultimate goal of health care reform -- a goal that, even with the exchanges problems, we are steadily achieving. Less than 17 days into the signup period, the State of Oregon had already enrolled 56,000 people under the Medicaid expansion in Obamacare -- and reduced the state´s percentage of uninsured by 10%. In
