| Congressional liberals aren´t done taxing wealthy Americans. On Thursday, Sens. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Rep. Peter DeFazio (D-Ore.) introduced the "Keeping Social Security Promises Act," which asks the wealthiest Americans to "pay their fair share into the fund." "The people on top are doing phenomenally well," Sanders told a news conference on Thursday. "It is time to ask them to help us, in this case with making sure Social Security is there for our kids and grandchildren." The bill would require those with yearly incomes of $250,000 or more to pay the same 6.2 percent payroll tax

Comments: I´m worn out screaming about cutting spending and not increasing taxes. It just never ends. They should all be in jail for willfully destroying this country.

Does anyone ever notice that the liberals only "plan" to improve jobs and the fiscal problems our Federal government has is a plan to raise taxes....and to take more money from our fellow citizens?
How much is enough? What will be their "plan" when they have taxed "the rich" out of existence?

It´s always pay their fair share, pay their fair share, on and on and on with these liberals, why don´t they just pass a bill to take everything the rich have and be done with it. They never talk about the deadbeats who contribute nothing because of their laziness to do their fair share.

FTA: "People are quite dependent upon Social Security now," DeFazio said, because they haven´t been able to save enough money: "That´s not going to change at any predictable time in the future."
Rats, I thought we were promised change. Maybe these two Commies should talk to the Commie in Chief about the expansion of dependency and lessening of savings during his reign of error, and his stupid policies which call for more of the same.
Apparently, these two numbskulls believe "the rich" should basically reimburse the government and then some for the shortfalls caused by the payroll tax holiday, fourfold extension of unemployment benefits, and Zero´s war on prosperity. This is more insanity, not a cure.
Their "94% of Americans pay SS on all their income" is a faulty premise also. Too large a number of Americans receive EITC which well more than offsets what they pay in SS, and "the rich" are already shelling out over half their income in taxes, well more than the 94%.
Maybe these two should try a novel concept for raising revenue, such as putting people back to work, fudged and downward-adjusted labor numbers notwithstanding.

In those days you didnt pay tax on benefits either. SWo.. all this thief wants to do is raise the tax rate without actually improving the benefit. Time to repeal the complete Ponzi scam that is social security, or at least phas itr out over the next 25-30 myears or so.

He barely squeeked back into office this last time due to the fact that he actually had a decent opponent. We ALL pay into the social security fund. But at somewhere around the $110,000.00 level (per year) you stop paying anymore $ into the social security fund..... fir he rest of the year.
You see, somewhere in the $55,000 to $60,000 per year range you reach a point to where you will not gain anymore in your monthly SS retirement check.
There was wisdom in placing a cap on how much a financially successful person has to pay into a system. Because ...... If they are going to limit the mount (monthly/yearly) you can take out of the SS system, shouldn´t there also be a limit on how much you pay into the SS system?
In any event, those of us who have the nerve to succeed ARE paying into the SS system.

One of the first political issues negotiators must tackle in crafting an immigration reform bill is among the most important: what to name it. It’s a decision that will bruise egos, create legacies and deeply affect subsequent messaging battles. “Every time the bill is mentioned in the press, you either have a brand that´s positive or a brand that doesn´t mean anything or even hurts you,” said Frank Sharry, the executive director of the pro-immigration reform group America’s Voice. The wrong name, he warned, could doom a good bill. “If there´s not a

President Obama is eager to build public support for his health care overhaul in the few months remaining before its implementation, but waning enthusiasm from Democrats threatens his effort right out of the gate. Two-thirds of Democrats now believe Obama´s health care reforms will either hurt them personally or have no effect on their daily lives, a Quinnipiac University poll released Thursday shows. In comparison, just 27 percent of Democratic respondents said the reforms would help them. The president has long struggled to convince independent and Republican-leaning voters that his health care blueprint would lower premiums and expand insurance coverage.

President Obama´s biggest gaffe yesterday when speaking of California Attorney General Kamala Harris was not in flirtatiously complimenting her as "the best-looking attorney general," but in introducing an observation from the system of beauty into a forum that was about the system of power. What´s that, you say? Irin Carmon does a great job in Salon in laying out the bounds of propriety for when it´s appropriate to talk about a woman´s looks as a general matter. But I´ve long felt we lack a solid theoretical underpinning for easily discussing these issues, and why precisely it is that

Put out an all-points bulletin: Millions of Americans have gone missing from the workforce. Every month that those would-be workers are gone raises the odds that they might never come back, dimming the prospects for future economic growth. The vanishing trend is more than a decade old, but it accelerated during the Great Recession. Throughout 2012, economists held out hope that it had stopped. But then came Friday’s jobs report, and hopes were dashed. The Labor Department reported that the U.S. labor force — everyone who has a job or is looking for one — shrank
