| Disgraced politician John Edwards was recently warned by his doctors that he will die if he doesn´t stop drinking. The former presidential candidate reportedly had a heart attack scare that ended with a serious conversation with his doctors who said that if he didn´t cut back on alcohol he may die. This is not the first bout with heart trouble for 59-year-old Edwards as he had to postpone his corruption trial last year because of an undisclosed yet serious heart condition. The latest run-in was reported in today´s National Enquirer who alleges that he was at home when he started

O pish tosh! I´m becoming fed up with the barrage of medical alarmism we have to endure everyday. News flash- we´re all gonna die! The question is on whose terms? Smokers and drinkers should be encouraged. If they die young they will actually be less of a "drain" on the system than those (me included, I hope) who have long lives. Just sayin´.

Hundreds took to the streets as macabre ‘Thatcher death parties’ were held late into the night across the country, organised by critics of the ´Iron Lady.´ Smashed shop windows, paint bombs and police being attacked were all consequences of the Left´s sick ´celebration´ of Baroness Thatcher´s death. In Brixton, south London, riot police were deployed as the crowds, which had been drinking since 5pm, started to become more aggressive smashing shop fronts and throwing paint bomb. In Liverpool, flares and fireworks were set off outside Lime Street Station by revellers, while in Bristol, seven police officers were injured--one seriously--as violence

Cometh the hour cometh the man. (Or woman). Except it´s not always true, is it? In 1940 we had Winston Churchill. In 1979 we had Margaret Thatcher. But I´m not sure even the most generous apologists for our current Prime Minister would bracket David Cameron in quite the same category. [Snip] One of the key differences between the two lies in their attitude to personal popularity. To the politician it matters greatly, for the primary aim of the politician is to gain and maintain power at regardless of what cost to his principles. Republican congressional candidate Mark Sanford slammed the 2009 federal stimulus package that went to Clemson University’s wind turbine effort--where Democrat rival Elizabeth Colbert Busch is employed--as bad public policy and a poor return on the taxpayers’ investments. By Sanford’s math and reading of Obama administration stimulus allocation figures, the Wind Turbine Drivetrain Testing Facility received $43 million and “created or saved” an estimated 134 jobs. When divided, the numbers calculate to more than $320,000 per job, Sanford said. Sanford’s comments came during a visit to a Mount Pleasant branch of Lyerly’s Cleaners, where he carried in a load

A coral reef in Northern Australia severely damaged by warming seas has managed to completely heal itself in just 12 years, stunned researchers have found. The team found that being left alone to breed on its own was key. The discovery raises hope that other damaged reefs could ´regenerate´. The new research shows that an isolated reef off the northwest coast of Australia that was severely damaged by a period of warming in 1998. It was hit by coral bleaching, caused by higher water temperatures that break down the coral´s symbiotic relationship with algae that provide food for coral growth.

Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise. Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs. People aren’t saying they don’t believe in God. They’re saying they don’t believe in religion. They are not rejecting Christ. They are rejecting the church. This begs the question, “Why are we losing our religion?”

Beginning a week of high pressure on gun control, the White House on Monday accused some Republican senators of cowardice for planning to filibuster gun legislation without allowing the full Senate to vote on President Obama’s initiatives. “If they oppose this legislation, have the courage to say so on the floor and vote no,” said White House press secretary Jay Carney. “Don’t block it. Don’t hide behind a procedural action to prevent a vote. That’s the wrong thing to do, and that’s how the president clearly feels.”

There was growing buzz over the weekend that a bipartisan agreement on gun control — a deal that would expand background checks — could hit the floor as early as this week. However, any deal could be derailed by the looming threat of a Republican filibuster involving Texas Sen. Ted Cruz. With Cruz standing proudly in the way of any gun legislation, Democrats are trying to make him pay a political price — and even a couple of high-profile Republicans are questioning his tactics.
