| WASHINGTON - The U.S. government shut down on Wednesday ahead of a fierce snowstorm packing heavy, wet snow that had blanketed the Midwest, leaving thousands without power and forcing hundreds of flights to be canceled. Washington could get slammed by its biggest snowfall in as much as two years, with 6 inches to 12 inches (15 cm to 30 cm) expected after the storm moved eastward into the mid-Atlantic states, the National Weather Service said. The government, already hit by $85 billion in overall budget cuts that took effect last Friday, ordered 375,000 federal workers in the Washington area

Remember the government shutdown in 1994-95? One day after the government re-opened, DC was hit by a storm which dropped over 2 feet of snow. It was hilarious - it was as if God was saying, "You think that you´re so important and powerful? Watch this!" DC was closed for another 5 days while everyone dug out.

It´s the spongy complex of proteins, found naturally in wheat, rye, and barley, that gives elasticity to dough and allows it to rise. When flour is moistened and either kneaded or mixed into dough, gluten molecules form an elastic, microscopic latticework that traps the carbon dioxide produced when yeast ferments, causing dough to inflate like a hot air balloon. BOISE, Idaho — Authorities in eastern Idaho are investigating the shooting deaths of two men and a woman whose bodies were found in a home that contained a marijuana grow operation. The deaths took place sometime between Thursday afternoon and evening by someone who had some type of relationship with the victims, the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office said. The bodies were discovered Friday outside Holbrook, a town of about 400 people just north of the Idaho-Utah state line. Authorities said a 2-month-old was found under the arm of one of the victims — 27-year-old Yavette Chivon Carter.

As freshwater glaciers melt, cold water sinks into the ocean, keeping the sea colder than it would otherwise be.
