| Fox News chief Roger Ailes calls former House Speaker Newt Gingrich "a p***k" and a "sore loser" in an excerpt from a forthcoming biography by Zev Chafets, an exclusive excerpt of which has just been published in Vanity Fair. Ailes remark about Gingrich came during the 2012 campaign season when Gingrich, a former Fox News contributor, complained that the network was giving too much support to Mitt Romney. According to Chafets´ report, Ailes found the complaint self-serving and disloyal, and told his spokesman Brian Lewis to “brush [Gingrich] back." “He’s a sore loser and if he had won

Newt has his share of faults but all the random carping done on him aren´t his problem, His biggest problem, even among his supporters is unceremoniously dumping his first two wives. The hit piece they came up with about Newt wanting an open marriage was a real deal killer. One thing for sure is Newt didn´t like Romney´s wealth giving him such an advantage but him shooting himself in the foot was a bigger problem than that.Newt had a plan to seriously attack medicare and medicaid fraud which are huge problems a leftist like Obama couldn´t care less about.
To me,Guliani would have been our best candidate this time but he would never have passed the purity tests. He would have tackled the country´s problems with conservative solutions regardless of a couple outlier positions.

I agree with #1 that Gingrich´s personal life was a factor in the primaries, but a much bigger one was our sense that Gingrich´s attention span is about this ( ) long. The problems facing us required focus and Gingrich didn´t have it. As for Romney´s wealth being a burr under Newt´s saddle blanket, for goodness sake, he had a mega-rich donor opening the vault for him. What´s to resent?

Newt is just too logical and too white.
Like Sarah or John Bolton he has both the capacity for and the habit of speaking the truth without fear or favor and that scares the bejesus out of the go-along / get-along types.

A good CEO would have welcomed the talents of perhaps the most insightful and accomplished political tactician our side has seen in 50 years, matter how unfocused. A liberal republican who achieved his front runner status by quietly pledging to end the threat of populist conservatism to establishment republicanism would engage in a scorched earth, etch a sketch campaign. I´m glad Ailes is so pleased with the results.

Politico up to their tricks. That´s all. "P....k" can be a term of admiration in some instances. For example, that´s the kind of lawyer you want if you are suing someone.
So, without all the context, we don´t know what Ailes really was saying. But I do think Ailes has spit in the face of those of us who watched FoxNews religiously over the years by moving toward the left. Just to make more money, in my opinion. I thought FoxNews was different but I don´t think that anymore.

Newt´s biggest problem is his own inflated ego. He played the money card that obama built on to help overcome Mitt Romney. Can´t say beat Mitt Romney due to the unanswerable question of minority area voter fraud (which cannot be addressed due to GOP agreeing not to ever look under the covers there.)
Newt along with other primary players did all they could to undermine the strongest and as it played out inevitable winner. Sarah Palin also lost creds by backing Newt in North Carolina and became a silly twit in my formerly slavishly devoted to fresh-faced Sarah mind. Wanted to have the primary drag on to convention. I can´t help cynically wondering if she wanted to take the convention by acclamation.
Newt? We or rather I know he would take the advancement in power and privileges any way he could/can get it. Rubio and Christie showed themselves more interested in their own chances in 2016 IMO, Michelle Bachman showed that the hard right can be easily overcome in the public´s mind - keep trying total abortion prohibition and lose lose lose. Meanwhile the inexperienced and highly dogmatic Tea party gives away all the strengths it gave us by infighting with the GOP establishment.
The religious right ought to be fasting and praying not meddling in "My way or the highway" politics. The country has been conditioned to fear the right wing bigots and hail the left wing marvelous feelers.
What next? Hillary and Jeb in 2016--two political dynasties facing off?

The amen choir is accounted for I see. As for Newt..lost respect for him long ago and he did not do anything to regain my trust. He was my congressman in Georgia years ago and we were so proud of him. Then suddenly he lost his way..a la zipper and money..but since he was a Repub we did applaud his lack of character like the Dems do. Palin made a mistake backing Newt but he did seem to be positioning himself to the right. When Perry folded like a cheap tent I lost heart and knew we were stuck with Romney. Personally I do think the election had a great deal of cheating and vote tampering but Romney also did not give the independents a reason to vote for him. He had Romneycare so how could he use Obamacare to get votes. Romney did not bring up Benghezi..he did not bring up anything that could hurt Obama. Romney is a good man but he fights drones with slingshots. We will always lose unless Repubs learn to fight.

Secretary of State John Kerry is worth some $200 million, give or take a yacht. So his decision to slap a 5% pay cut on himself in solidarity with government employees squeezed by sequestration won’t likely hurt him much. But he’s saving taxpayers another way, too — if unintentionally. And it’s downright troubling. How else is Kerry saving money? He’s failing to hire folks to fill key spots at his agency. Terrific. Think about it: With the North Koreans threatening nuclear strikes against America — and Kerry himself preparing to visit South Korea this week — wouldn’t it be a tad helpful

In March, the number of Americans who dropped out of the labor force increased by 663,000 which adds up to a record 90 million Americans who are no longer looking for employment. Zero Hedge reported: This was the biggest monthly increase in people dropping out of the labor force since January 2012, when the BLS did its census recast of the labor numbers. And even worse, the labor force participation rate plunged from an already abysmal 63.5% to 63.3% - the lowest since 1979!But at least it helped with the now painfully grotesque propaganda

After 69 years, Newt Gingrich is wealthy, a celebrity, and the owner of a tony home in Northern Virginia. His place in the history books, as the leader of the Republican revolution, has long been established. But the former House speaker isn’t ready to fade away. “I don’t rule it out,” he said on Thursday over breakfast, when asked about a future presidential run. He spoke excitedly about his company, Gingrich Productions, and his upcoming trip to South Carolina, where he won the Republican primary last year. Gingrich’s unflagging energy isn’t surprising.

Going with his parental gut, President Obama applauded in 2011 when Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius barred girls under 17 from obtaining the morning-after pill without a prescription. He pictured 10- and 11-year-olds buying pregnancy prevention medicine as easily as bubble gum and drew a line. “As the father of two daughters, it makes sense to apply some common sense,” the President said. Now, a Brooklyn federal judge has ruled that moms and dads — including the ones in the White House — are owed no legal say over whether very young daughters can pop a hormonal contraceptive

It would take superspin powers to portray the March jobs report as anything other than a huge step in the wrong direction. The US economy added just 88,000 jobs last month, 95,000 in the private sector as public payrolls fell by 7,000. The official unemployment rate ticked down a tenth of a point to 7.6%. 1. That is a paltry number of jobs, more or less matching assumed labor force growth per month. So the economy must add at least that many jobs just to keep the labor market at current depressed levels.

Senator Marco Rubio is the man of the hour. He has deftly positioned himself as the indispensable figure in this year’s immigration debate. His participation has given the Gang of Eight approach to amnesty some insulation from grassroots conservative criticism, at least for a time. Liberals in Congress understand that his imprimatur is essential to get Republican votes for the amnesty. But Rubio’s position as a bridge between the parties on immigration means he faces conflicting demands. He wants to ride success on immigration to the 2016 presidential nomination but has also made hard commitments to conservatives

Last week, the Society of Actuaries warned about sticker shock ahead for individuals and families buying health insurance. How did the White House respond? In its usual Orwellian fashion, saying “healthcare costs are falling thanks to the reform law.” Falling is correct only if you’re standing on your head. President Obama repeatedly promised that insurance exchanges will save families up to $2,300 a year. He couldn’t possibly have believed it. From day one, it was obvious the law would push up premiums. That’s because it requires insurers to cover services

The rites of spring are: daylight savings time... cherry blossoms and daffodils… and another North Korean military crisis. Every year, come spring, the North Korean people run low on their stocks of food, fuel and fear. Their leaders manage the situation by manufacturing a crisis. They threaten war, their people forget about hardships to rally round the flag, and the world trembles. Everyone agrees to consultations, the North Koreans get assistance, and the crisis is averted….until the same time next year. The annual North Korean display of braggadocio and brinksmanship is so predictable you can practically set your iCalendar to auto-renew.

White House officials are now openly conceding that President Obama´s gun control package could die on Capitol Hill, a development analysts said would cast a pall over the president´s second-term agenda and weaken his leverage with Republicans. The president´s trek to Denver on Wednesday was his latest attempt to regain momentum on the issue of gun violence, on which Obama has so far failed to close a deal despite a substantial investment of political capital. "There doesn´t have to be a conflict between protecting our citizens and protecting our Second Amendment rights," Obama said,

President Obama´s biggest gaffe yesterday when speaking of California Attorney General Kamala Harris was not in flirtatiously complimenting her as "the best-looking attorney general," but in introducing an observation from the system of beauty into a forum that was about the system of power. What´s that, you say? Irin Carmon does a great job in Salon in laying out the bounds of propriety for when it´s appropriate to talk about a woman´s looks as a general matter. But I´ve long felt we lack a solid theoretical underpinning for easily discussing these issues, and why precisely it is that
