Anti-Obesity Programs
Fatten Government

Investor´s Business Daily, by Betsy McCaughey

On Feb. 26, first lady Michelle Obama walked into the produce section of a Wal-Mart in Springfield, Mo., to announce the three-year anniversary of her Healthy Food Financing Initiative, a program to bring stores selling fresh fruits and vegetables to neighborhoods deemed "food deserts." Making it easier to buy produce will reduce obesity, Mrs. Obama claimed. (Snip) In truth, the federal government is spending recklessly on anti-obesity programs based on sham science. Before the president whines again that shaving 2.4% off the federal budget will harm the neediest,

The beauty of this "fresh veggie" scam for big government Dems is that all the stuff is perishable. Meaning that when the torrent of tax dollars starts flowing, the Dems/mobsters who get it don´t even have to buy anything with it. Just keep the money. Two days later, everthing will have disappeared.

This is why obama NEVER proposes real infrastructure projects. Would have to buy cement. FDR proposed and built the Hoover Dam. You can still see it.

Reply 7 - Posted by: rabbit, 3/6/2013 7:30:21 AM     (No. 9210759)

The real scam is the claim is that obesity is the source of all evils. Numerous studies have shown that those who are too thin die more quickly than those who have a little meat on their bones. The obesity guidelines are set so far off than virtually every high school athlete will fall in the ´obese´ range - except they are clearly specimens of excellent health by saner standards.

We have this weird fetish that citizens should all look like runway models or Hollywood starlets, most of whom are far too thin, many of them, anorexic. Even Marilyn Monroe would be deemed overweight by today´s standards.

Gay marriage is an issue of equality that fulfills America’s founding principles, White House spokesman Josh Earnest said during Wednesday’s press briefing. Earnest was responding to a reporter who asked whether President Obama feels his stance on gay marriage has “cleared the way” for others to support it publicly, noting Sen. Portman’s decision to support gay marriage earlier this month after his son announced he was gay.

Ruth C. Amen, a longtime office manager of Gulf to Bay Realty, a Boca Grande business, is now facing embezzlement charges after a surprise birthday party for her boss backfired into a paper trail of fraudulent transactions, according to a news release from the Lee County Sheriff´s Office. The 46-year-old Boca Grande woman was reportedly solely responsible for handling the company´s finances such as billing and payroll. It was Amen´s decision to pay for a surprise birthday bash for one of her bosses -- without permission -- that brought the fraudulent transactions to light.

n a story produced jointly with NPR, ProPublica.org, that new tax-exempt investigative-journalism outfit, puts forward what sounds like a smart proposal for improving the efficiency of the federal government: Imagine filing your income taxes in five minutes--and for free. You´d open up a pre-filled return, see what the government thinks you owe, make any needed changes and be done. The miserable annual IRS shuffle, gone. (Snip)So why hasn´t it become a reality? For two reasons, as it turns out. There is a plausible public-spirited argument against it and a venal interest group working to thwart it.

To put it plainly, the press briefing intending to indicate how President Barack Obama thinks about Israel on the eve of his trip here was a combination of fantasy and insult. It is likely that the Obama administration made such statements for show — to persuade the Arabic-speaking world that the United States is striving for peace, is not acting like a puppet (or should one say “ally”?) of Israel, and is using its influence to change Israeli policy even as it does nothing of the sort. As proof that Obama isn’t going to do anything,

When Benedict XVI was pope, the New York Times ran a scurrilous, distortion-infested campaign intended to link the former Joseph Ratzinger with the awful abuse scandals that have so harmed the Catholic Church. These pieces were manifestly dishonest and substance-free when you read them through. But the Times editors know most people don’t read the articles — they read the headlines and the first paragraph. So this morning, the pseudo-journalists at the Times began their campaign of lies against the new pope, Francis, under the damning (and damnable) headline: “Starting a Papacy, Amid Echoes of a ‘Dirty War’”:

President Obama´s biggest gaffe yesterday when speaking of California Attorney General Kamala Harris was not in flirtatiously complimenting her as "the best-looking attorney general," but in introducing an observation from the system of beauty into a forum that was about the system of power. What´s that, you say? Irin Carmon does a great job in Salon in laying out the bounds of propriety for when it´s appropriate to talk about a woman´s looks as a general matter. Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise. Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs. People aren’t saying they don’t believe in God. They’re saying they don’t believe in religion. They are not rejecting Christ. They are rejecting the church. This begs the question, “Why are we losing our religion?”

Put out an all-points bulletin: Millions of Americans have gone missing from the workforce. Every month that those would-be workers are gone raises the odds that they might never come back, dimming the prospects for future economic growth. The vanishing trend is more than a decade old, but it accelerated during the Great Recession. Throughout 2012, economists held out hope that it had stopped. But then came Friday’s jobs report, and hopes were dashed. The Labor Department reported that the U.S. labor force — everyone who has a job or is looking for one — shrank
