Special Report: Did Diane Sawyer
smear "pink slime"?

Reuters, by P.J. Huffstutter & Martha Graybow

Original Article

Posted By:LittleHoodedMonk, 3/5/2013 3:21:00 AM

A year ago, Beef Products Inc. had four state-of-the art plants, more than 1,300 employees and was expanding aggressively. The meat company was the leading maker of "lean finely textured beef," a low-fat product made from chunks of beef (Snip) The court fight could put modern television journalism on trial and highlight the power of language in the Internet Age: In the wake of the reports on "World News with Diane Sawyer," the term "pink slime" went viral. The case also underscores an intensifying war between the farm sector and its critics over how food is made.

Comments:
"Pink slime" gets smeared by ABC News and three working plants are closed and hundreds loose jobs. Wonder who gets thrown under the bus if Beef Products Inc. wins?

This should be an open and shut case against Sawyer and ABC.You can´t dstroy a compnay´s reputation without a deluge of proof to back it up.We´re inching closer to government control over the food supply and the anti-meat nazis are a big part of it.

Pink slime is a derogatory term contrived by a bunch of the workers at a processing plant somewhere. It not only is not pink, it is perfectly a good meat product. It is a product produced by removing the very small amounts of meat left on the bones during the processes, a product that would be wasted if a method of recovery had not been developed.

Sawyer picked up a "term" and ran with it. It´s like someone calling food from some anonomous joint "slop." It was and is a term used by the workers that is meaningless but for Sawyer made a sensational report. She should be held responsible for this malicious report which lacked credence.

Robert D. Marcus became chief executive of Time Warner Cable at the start of the year. Less than two months later, he agreed to sell the company to its largest rival, Comcast, for $45 billion. For that work, he will receive nearly $80 million if the deal closes, a severance payment that amounts to more than $1 million a day for the six weeks he ran the company before agreeing to sell. “It’s not unprecedented, but it is rare and troubling,” said Robert Jackson Jr., an associate professor at Columbia Law School. “There’s something stunning about such big paydays for such a small amount of work.”

Topeka, Kan. - The Rev. Fred Phelps, the virulently antigay preacher who drew wide, scornful attention for staging demonstrations at military funerals as a way to proclaim his belief that God is punishing America for its tolerance of homosexuality, died here on Wednesday. He was 84. (Snip) A disbarred civil rights lawyer who had once been honored by the N.A.A.C.P. and who ran for office repeatedly, and unsuccessfully, as a Democrat, Mr. Phelps seemed to accept the criticism if not relish it. “If I had nobody mad at me,” he told The Wichita Eagle in 2006, “what right would I have to claim that I was preaching the Gospel?”

Chicago - Illinois´ Supreme Court declared one of the nation´s toughest eavesdropping laws unconstitutional, saying Thursday that the statute was so overly broad that it would technically make the recording of screaming fans at a football game a crime. The ruling is a final and decisive defeat for the Illinois Eavesdropping Act, which had made it a felony for someone to record conversations unless all parties involved agreed. The 1961 law violates free speech and due process protections, and is way too broad in scope, the court decided in unanimous decisions in two related cases focused on audio recordings.

Attention Democrats: You’re going to get crushed this November! (Snip) So Democrats, you have two options: One, get destroyed in November (Think meat being tenderized with a hammer.) For most professionals, negotiation is standard operating procedure: receive a job offer, respond with a counter-offer, and then engage in a little back-and-forth until the parties arrive at an outcome that satisfies them both. But sometimes negotiations go spectacularly awry. (Snip) Many observers suggest that, even in the age of Lean In, sexism was at play, especially given the request for maternity leave. Is Barack Obama simply too busy to be Chief Executive of the United States? Apparently. One of the primary functions of the president is to keep the nation safe, to preserve it from its enemies. To do that effectively, one would actually have to maintain something of a consistent level of attention to the moving pieces that directly influence how future events will unfold. None other than the truly sycophantic thinks for a second that President Obama cares a whit for anything that does not involve fundamentally altering the social composition of this country. Or golf.
