That´s what killed Pope John Paul II. It almost got my 90 year old mother in January. It´s scary for sure.

My late Mom also nearly died from urosepsis. She already had compromised kidney function and heart condition. It was a miracle that she didn´t die or that her overall condition, at her age did not deteriorate further.

I had no idea that nearly a million people a year have sepsis.

I wonder how many of us have a doctor who would put us in his car and rush us to the hospital?

Both my parents died of Sepsis.

For my Dad it was just a matter of hours because the infection began in the lungs in a post pneumonia lesion. He walked into the ER at 9AM....was gone by 11AM.

My Mom was 90 and because the antibiotics were so toxic and would wreak havoc with her heart medications, she opted for no extraordinary measures. It was hard for us to handle but coma came quickly she died peacefully with all of us there about 24 hours later.

This is nasty. Be sure to wash all cuts and scrapes and get to the hospital if a fever develops....

This is indeed an ´eye-opener´. E.Coli bacteria is one nasty customer & not to be taken lightly.

Enterobacteria also a frequent culprit.

I dunno. I wonder, even after the fact, if they know what he had. Was it the bacterium, or was it the immune over-response? If the later, then antibiotics would NOT be the only or primary treatment.

Glad he survived, but I just dunno.

I almost died from this in 2007 from a kidney infection I didn´t even know I had. It is nasty and painful. It took me months and mass quantities of antibiotics to finally get over it.

In the old days it was called blood poisoning and people were more afraid, as they should be.

Today, a patient in the hospital with staphylococcus septicemia after surgery is told they have an infection.
