Personalized guns touted as safety check

| San Francisco — In the latest James Bond movie, the hero is given a gun that recognizes the palm of his hand. Later, when a bad guy snatches the pistol away in a tussle, it won´t fire, and Agent 007 lives to die another day. It may have felt like Hollywood fantasy, but the basic premise is very real - and very dear - to some lawmakers and gun control advocates. They believe that in the age of smartphones and the aftermath of December´s elementary school massacre in Connecticut, the time has come for a marriage of firearms - which have changed little for decades - and modern technology

Comments: Maximum Barry has called for a report on these "emerging technologies," which if worked as designed, would leave a woman defenseless against a home invader because her husband´s "personalized" gun is inoperable.
And potential enemies can only dream of a scenario where our defenses are rendered useless by an EMP blast.

I am very skeptical for several reasons. First, it might not work. Second, it could make innocent people less safe by encouraging laziness with securing guns, not all of which will have these safeties. (look how many people trust the mechanical safety now.) Also, would it be anonymous? Not if they use fingerprinting or other biometrics. All that info could be ordered sent into big sis any time. Lots of guns have a magazine safety that will not allow the gun to fire if the mag is dropped out. I removed all mine in very short order. A thief could likey defeat an electromechanical safety with just a few hand tools.
Lastly, why do we allow people who hate guns to make gun policy?

It works against you too. What if you are attacked by an armed assailant and somehow you get the gun from him, it won´t do you any good and if he´s bigger or stronger or you are a woman, he will just get it back and kill you. This is so wrong on so many levels.

He need to go find some other way to grieve instead of redirecting the anger on to inanimate object and everyone else.
The reality is that the technology will NEVER be ready for prime time. This one is a step backward in that it is counting on TWO battery operated devices and a wireless link between the two.for the system to work. Brilliant.

Two groups will support this move. The first is the clueless fools that think that this could actually make things safer. The second is the hateful weasels that intend to do everything they can to make guns more expensive and less effective because they do not believe in the ´great unwashed´ having the ability to defend themselves.

And just how many of these gangbangers guns are going to be "personalized" like this? Yeah, I thought so. No one knows how many guns I have, and they aren´t going to get their hands on them. I imagine there are many millions of other guns legally owned, but not registered, and I doubt if many will be turned in to this regime.

The Navy’s cancellation of Blue Angels 2013 air shows extends past the federal fiscal year ending in September means the November 1-2 Homecoming Show at Pensacola Naval Air Station has been scrapped too. “It’s not just the fiscal year,” said Navy Lt. Aaron Kakiel, spokesman for the Naval Air Forces Command in San Diego. Thus the Navy is also canceling the Blues four air shows in October. More importantly for the November 2013 season finale in Pensacola, their practices in October are canceled too. New York — As many doctors struggle to keep their practices financially sound, some are buckling under money woes and being pushed into bankruptcy. It´s a trend that´s accelerated in recent years, industry experts say, with potentially serious consequences for doctors and patients. Some physicians are still able to keep practicing after bankruptcy, but for others, it´s a career-ending event. And when a practice shuts its doors, patients can find it harder to get the health care they need nearby. Chapter 11 bankruptcy filings by physician practices have spiked recently, noted Bobby Guy, co-chair of the American Bankruptcy Institute´s

Beginning a week of high pressure on gun control, the White House on Monday accused some Republican senators of cowardice for planning to filibuster gun legislation without allowing the full Senate to vote on President Obama’s initiatives. “If they oppose this legislation, have the courage to say so on the floor and vote no,” said White House press secretary Jay Carney. “Don’t block it. Don’t hide behind a procedural action to prevent a vote. That’s the wrong thing to do, and that’s how the president clearly feels.”
