American health care is being transformed, for better or worse. “Better,” in this case, means parts of the Affordable Care Act that have polled well and been enacted, taking their place comfortably in the medical system. These include letting dependent children stay on their parents’ health insurance until age 26 and a ban on insurance companies dropping children for pre-existing conditions
A whole lot of people thought that when Obama said that they could keep their kids on their policy until the age 0f 26, that it would be with no cost. Boy, were they suprised when the new statement came in the mail!!!!!
Huh, doctors are worried; well there are a whole bunch of us who are worried sick over 0bamacare. One does not have to be a genius to realize you cannot give millions of people care who have not been covered in the past, and not to expect a HUGE increase in the price. All of us will get less care, and many of us will be paying a much higher price for our care. And the old people will get very little care going forward.
Due to word limitations, I will post this in three parts. I think it is important for you to know what we have learned on a real and personal basis.
I have a lot medical issues going on. My wife´s employer provides her with a ´flex account´ which is for those unfamiliar, a debit card to help pay for doctor visits, drugs and such but it isn´t a GIFT, it is taken from her pay meaning it is HER MONEY. Last year she had $5000 taken out but I incurred so many medical bills that even after her insurance (which cost her $575 a MONTH) her flex card was empty by June.
We decided that this time around we would increase that to $8000. Nope. We tell the insurance rep what we wanted to do and were told, "can´t do that." I asked why and was told, "New regulations say you can´t." Of course I asked, "WHOSE NEW REGULATIONS?" She starts telling me crap about how the IRS (the IRS? When did these slimy SOB´s start deciding my health care?) limits her flex card to $2500. (Which btw is nearly used up already and it is only March... but I digress.) After being nearly escorted from the room by security for raising a fuss about a bunch of ´never have worked morons´ electing a communist, we also found that now her monthly costs for a bit LESS medical coverage has gone to $675 a MONTH. (I hate it when people complain about having to pay a dollar for a medicine that costs me $48 after my insurance ya know?).
Fast forward to February. I got a letter telling me that a payment I made with her flex card had been declined. After I regained my composure, we called to ask why. I had a ton of surgery done in the last week of December both because I needed it - cancer in the throat tends to become a problem you understand and because it would have been cheaper than waiting until January and having to pay out more because of all new deductibles. I start talking to this lady and she tells me that flex cards can now only be used to pay medical bills incurred in the current year. I asked WHY? It is OUR MONEY.... I want to pay my medical bills I incurred before Christmas. "Well sir, under the new regulations, your flex card can only be used to pay for medical bills incurred in the current year." Again, I asked WHO decided this - after all, it is OUR MONEY. It isn´t a "gift" from Uncle Urkel, this is taken straight from her check. Obama had absolutely squat to do with that... except make her job harder... but that is an entirely different rant.
She tells me that under new regulations set up by the IRS and then I lost it. "WHY THE BLOODY H*LL DOES THE IRS HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH OUR MONEY TO PAY MY MEDICAL BILLS?" She tells me that the IRS is now in charge of ´certain decisions´ in how insurance will work. Excuse the h*ll out of me lady, but this ain´t a gift from no one, this is OUR MONEY! If I was on welfare and had never worked a day in my entire life, I would understand but this was money for which my wife had worked.
She tells me that more new ´laws´ will be introduced come July 1, 2013 and administered by the IRS. I wait for the day that the useful idiots who thought their vote for the communist party would give them more free stuff get bit in the butt. It is coming. Mark my words. I´ve read some of the "Unaffordable Healthcare Scam" law. Those who ain´t working, never have worked, and haven´t worked in a long time are gonna be cut off some time in the very near future. Part of that section Nancy Piglosi told us about... you remember, "We´ll have to pass the bill to find out what it is about!"
Star Trek used the phrase "Resistance is futile" and maybe some think that is true but I don´t buy it. I am more with this guy: "We will NOT disarm, we will NOT comply, and we WILL resist." - Stewart Rhodes of Oathkeepers.
I´m sorry staff. I´m not trying to bend the rules but if people don´t know, they will not find out until it happens to them.
My late father, back in the 1930s, worked as a welder in a factory, welding together railroad locomotives. (He was an artist who couldn´t make a good living at art, so his vocation became his avocation.) And when a union was formed at his factory, he was elected a union officer. And when contract negotiations began, he tried to explain to his union brothers that it was a bad idea to negotiate for fringe benefits. ´Just get the cash, and let each of us decide what we want to buy.´ he opined. But the workers disagreed., even when my father tried to tell them that when someone gives you something, in the end it can be taken away. He would say ´I told you so´ if he were alive today.
When doctors cease to work the hours they do today, as they will do when on an employee status rather than a private practitioner responsible for his own patients, a huge shortage will emerge overnight. Obamadon´tcare, at every turn pushes doctors out of private practice and into hospital and clinic practices, where they are new public employee pawns, exactly what Obama had in mind. And, regrettably, these sorts of changes are seldom reversible.
Thank you for the details, #5-7. I´m so sorry for the fear and pain you and your wife are suffering through right now. Stay strong and don´t lose hope.
I am hearing stories like yours more and more. It will be mainstream all too soon. But I´ve also noticed that those who keep hope alive and endure are the ones becoming the most resourceful. We will find a way to not only survive, but turn this around. Americans are known for that kind of grit.
#10, Aussies used to be known for that kind of grit but they have been disarmed and disheartened. A shadow of their former selves. They have lost their National Identity. As has most of Europe pursuing their socialist dreams.
Just a precursor of what our liberal socialist leaders have in mind for us.
This past Monday I saw my family MD for a usual checkup. He did not mention that he was giving up his practice. Yesterday I got a form letter from him advising just that, and that my medical records would be forwarded to group of doctors. Thank you, Obama!
Nice post # 5 and sorry to hear about your situation. If that isn´t nazism,I don´t know what is.People deserve to know what laws mean the day after they pass. It should take a few years to work kinks out of a law as it goes along. When someone challenges Obamacare on something, they just change it out of thin air with no new legislation changing it.
The people I feel sorry for are the ones that have to have insurance, you´re trapped in a liberal scheme from hell.
Where I live, doctors simply don´t bill you any more,it´s cash at the POS if you don´t have insurance.
The left despises medical savings accounts because they make too much sense. They´ll find a way to phase them out over time.
These abstract liberal schemes never work as intended on the drawing board because they have no clue on projecting human behavior.
We´re going to be $20+ trillion in debt by the time Obama leaves office. This stupid plan will be a big part of it..When companies close their doors, less tax revenue. People paying fines instead of premiums.
What I´m wondering now is if they´ll force doctors to notify the IRS if you don´t carry Obamacare. That could lead to a lot of people dying because they don´t want a fight with the jackbooted IRS.
#5, I am so sorry for you, and for the many Americans who will also be feeling the IRS boot on their throat soon. I listened to an hour long radio program this morning, a company that advises businesses in how best to manage employee benefits. This was neither pro/con Obamacare, just factual information on how to best prepare businesses to handle the upcoming changes. This is going to be the biggest mess in history! Complete with exchanges (that are supposed to be fully operational in Oct. 2013)..heh ! At these exchanges, "Navigators" will help people enroll in the exchange that they can afford. One question was "how do people who sign up for exchanges pay the premiums" not where does the money come from, but how will people without checking or bank accounts pay and there is as yet, from this WH, NO answer.
I really dislike my local post office, it is dark, dank, dirty and staffed by, well...postal people. I imagine our future interactions with the health care business will be a similar scenario, postal workers wearing white lab coats instead of blue shirts. A nightmare actually.
Oh, and they will not be speaking English either, since foreign doctors will be purchased so much "cheaper".
I always like to read the opinions after an article and I did. One poster kept posting one reply after another and slammed doctors for being money-grubbing people etc.
There are some out there that really buy into Obama and his "supposed" compassion. Tell that to me after his very expensive Florida golf outing. I´m am so sick of the class warfare. I guess this person doesn´t realize what doctors have to give up in order to go to school. How about all of the money that colleges and universities bring in?
I´m telling you - Obama is probably baffled himself at how many people he bamboozled. Not buying what he´s trying to sell...
"What´s to come" is the complete collapse of the current healthcare system. It will be reborn first as an underground system, will erase obamacare and will probably be what we have needed for a long time. The government and the insurance companies will be left by the wayside, wondering what happened.
Yes, they cut the FSA contribution in half starting this year. It was $5,000 and is now $2,500. This is hurting my family very, very much. I am foregoing knee surgery and living with the pain (I work on my feet all day). Last night I woke up in pain and I don´t know what to do. I am furious that the government has injected itself into our health. I despise them and all of the morons who voted for this.
Thanks 5,6,7; that was a LOT to unload. You write well as I could sense your frustration and anger coming through. Just been listening to the 911 tape of the operator telling the Nurse at the Retirement Home to give CPR to the 80+ year old woman. I could also sense her frustration knowing that this old lady was going to die. She was dealing with a brick wall and there was no way through it. We now all have our own brick wall.
I will not heap on about the IRS. They get their orders from Congress so let´s point our fingers in the right direction.
Because of cancer, an unrelated accident and regular doc visits because I am older than I was, I have spent the last few months with some doc appointments. I am not going to heap on the doctors. They have told me there are tests they are now no longer able to order for me, unless I am willing to pay for them. It will be cheaper for me to take a round trip visit to a Central American country and have the tests conducted while at the same time taking a nice week´s vacation. Yes, cheaper.
It´s not coming people. It´s HERE. And our friend (5,6,7) has spelled it out for us. We do nothing and it continues to creep. It´s not going away until Obama goes away.
Former Mayor Richard M. Daley says he doesn’t remember much about the planning of Millennium Park, his wildly over-budget project that has become one of Chicago’s civic treasures. The sprawling downtown park, with its gleaming stainless-steel sculpture known as “The Bean,” is seen as one of his crowning achievements. Daley, though, shrugs it off. N
With New York City mayoral hopeful Bill de Blasio waiting to speak and an audience of a few thousand in Brooklyn´s Cadman plaza waving signs and flags, dancing, and chanting "Si se puede," 23-year-old Pakistani immigrant Hina Naveed, a student from Staten Island, didn´t miss her moment. She captured the identity and energy of the crowd in one quick phrase: "Being undocumented sucks!" The nationwide March for Immigrant Dignity and Respect was the latest mobilization for comprehensive immigration reform.
Battling gang violence has been one of Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s top priorities. But one of Emanuel’s top appointees, CTA Chairman Terry Peterson, appears to have taken a different tack in the mid-1990s: Lobbying for the early release of the imprisoned leader of the Gangster Disciples — one of the largest and deadliest street gangs in Chicago, the Better Government Association has learned.
As if the city doesn´t have enough problems with crime, budget deficits, and school cuts and closings, Mayor Emanuel has decided to barrel headfirst into the South Loop real estate market—with at least $55 million of your property tax funds. The key moment came at the July 24 City Council meeting, when he hammered through an ordinance giving the city eminent domain authority to buy property at Indiana and Cermak. He plans to have a hotel built there. A couple days later, the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority—the city-state agency that oversees Navy Pier and McCormick Place
Amid a spate of incursions by China in Ladakh, its troops are also resorting to tactics like preventing Indian Army from patrolling posts in this sector along the border which was well within India´s territory. In what is being described as an aggressive approach by China, the tactics have come to the fore in the wake of yet another incident last week when Indian troops launched its patrol "Tiranga" from Trade Junction area in north of Ladakh for two posts located 14 km up in the higher reaches along the line of actual control (LAC).
Using anti-science exuberance, for the last few days, the media have pom-pommed someone´s ethereal projection that the economy had created 200,000 or so jobs in July. The fact that our media would consider 200,000 jobs (which hardly keeps up with population growth) worthy of pom-poms is grotesque enough. Even more appalling is spinning manufactured positive news-cycles for President Obama based on proven nonsense like the ADP´s jobs projections.
A 6-year-old boy riding in a car with his mom was shot in the West Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side overnight, according to police, the boy among at least 13 people shot since Friday afternoon across the city. Police aren’t certain of the boy’s condition but said he was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital. He was in a car in the 4200 block of West Wilcox Street about 11:30 p.m. when someone started shooting.
Mayor Rahm Emanuel will not raise sales or property taxes to close a $338.7 million gap in next year’s budget but all bets are off in 2015, when the shortfall balloons to $1 billion without pension reform, a top mayoral aide said Wednesday. In 2015, the city is required by state law to make a $600 million contribution to stabilize police and fire pension funds that now have assets to cover just 30.5 and 25 percent of their respective liabilities.
Hundreds of gang members will be invited to a summit in Chicago in an attempt to broker peace in the bloodiest neighborhoods — 20 years after “gang summits” here and in other states drew national attention, organizers said Wednesday. The Rev. Gregory Tatum, a California pastor with Chicago roots, said he hopes the Rev. Jesse Jackson and the Rev. Al Sharpton will attend the Sept. 27-28 summit. Jackson spoke at a gang summit two decades ago in Chicago, delivering a message to gang members that they were the “new frontier of the civil rights struggle.”
Four out of 5 U.S. adults struggle with joblessness, near poverty or reliance on welfare for at least parts of their lives, a sign of deteriorating economic security and an elusive American dream. Survey data exclusive to The Associated Press points to an increasingly globalized U.S. economy, the widening gap between rich and poor and loss of good-paying manufacturing jobs as reasons for the trend. The findings come as President Barack Obama tries to renew his administration´s emphasis on the economy,
Mayor Rahm Emanuel closed the books on 2012 with $33.4 million in unallocated cash on hand — down from $167 million the year before — while adding to the mountain of debt piled on Chicago taxpayers, year-end audits show. Last week, Moody’s Investors ordered an unprecedented triple-drop in the city’s bond rating, citing Chicago’s “very large and growing” pension liabilities, “significant” debt service payments, “unrelenting public safety demands” and historic reluctance to raise local taxes that has continued under Emanuel.
State Rep. Monique Davis (D-Chicago) is defending comments she made about her constituents mistrusting Chicago Police. Davis, who represents a part of the city’s South Side, told a Detroit radio station some people in her district believe police are committing some of the murders in Chicago and that’s why they go unsolved. "We were talking about the deaths in the community,” Davis told the Sun-Times Saturday, adding she told the radio station that “some of my community people say they think the police are doing it.”
I have never been much of a conspiracy theorist. For me it was always Oswald by himself from the Texas School Book Depository and nothing in the intervening fifty years has disabused me of this notion. For the most part, I’m an Occam’s Razor kind of guy — the most obvious explanation is likely to be true. (Snip) To put it bluntly, Occam’s Razor has moved. Things that were once possibilities now seem almost certainties to me. Principal among those is that Obama’s academic records are perpetually unavailable for a reason — and that reason is most likely that they reveal
Last summer on his $100 million family tour of Africa, Barack Obama hoped for a priceless photo op with Nelson Mandela, the ailing freedom pioneer who went from prison cell to the presidency of South Africa. Mandela´s family suggested that wouldn’t happen. So, the Obamas did a photo op in Mandela´s former prison cell. Which Obama’s White House quickly tweeted upon word of the icon´s passing at 95. [Skip] But Obama was also caught staring at television coverage of Mandela’s passing, which became Obama’s Photo of the Day.
Hardly a week goes by without Hillary Clinton receiving another award. Last month she was named a “Global Champion” by the International Medical Corps, received the American Patriot Award at the National Defense University Foundation and the Hermandad Award from the Mexican American Leadership Initiative. [Snip] At this rate, if a bunch of elderly left-wing Swedes toss her the Nobel Peace Prize early on, the way they did to Obama, it will barely rate mention among all the other glittering trophies that have been bestowed on a woman whose only actual accomplishment was being married to a crooked governor with
Speaker John Boehner said his party should support gay Republican congressional candidates and urged his colleagues to “be a little more sensitive” when running against women. “Some of our members just aren’t as sensitive as they ought to be,” Boehner said. When asked if he thinks his party should support gay candidates, Boehner simply said: “I do.”
In February, the Bush family’s personal emails were hacked by Guccifer, a hacker who uncovered photographs of former President George H. W. Bush in a hospital bed and George W. Bush’s oil paintings in the process. It seems Guccifer has struck again, this time targeting former President Bill Clinton and the Clinton Library. The hacker has reportedly uncovered doodles of Clinton drawing on what were, at the time, classified documents. Among the doodles is apparently a picture of a penis. The document uncovered is a briefing of the strategic measures the United States could take prior Clinton’s decision to intervene in
Denver - A baker who refused to make a wedding cake for a same-sex ceremony must serve gay couples despite his religious beliefs or face fines, a judge said Friday. The order from administrative law judge Robert N. Spencer said Masterpiece Cakeshop in suburban Denver discriminated against a couple "because of their sexual orientation by refusing to sell them a wedding cake for their same-sex marriage." The order says the cake-maker must "cease and desist from discriminating" against gay couples. Although the judge did not impose fines in this case, the business will face penalties if it continues to turn away gay
Amid an array of “knock-out” attacks against a number of Jews in Brooklyn’s Crown Heights neighborhood, a city councilwoman pointed to the success of the Jewish community as triggering the aggression. Councilwoman-elect Laurie Cumbo emphasized that while she “admire[s] the Jewish community immensely” for its work ethic, black teens may see it differently. “While I personally regard this level of tenacity, I also recognize that for others, the accomplishments of the Jewish community triggers feelings of resentment, and a sense that Jewish success is not also their success,” Cumbo, who was recently elected, wrote in a letter. Chief among the issues
On Tuesday, The Boston Globe reported that Onyango “Omar” Obama, uncle to President Obama, says that his famous nephew stayed with him while a student at Harvard Law School in the 80s, in contradiction to The White House’s contention that the two had never met. At Thursday’s White House daily briefing, Press Secretary Jay Carney confirmed that the President had, in fact, briefly stayed with “his father’s half-brother,” as Carney described Omar Obama, and that no one had actually asked the President about it when the White House initially commented. The 69 year-old Omar Obama has been facing deportation back
Former President Bill Clinton shared an anecdote regarding Nelson Mandela and the aftermath of his impeachment Friday on CNN. Clinton revealed shortly after the “impeachment business” finished on Capitol Hill, Rep. Henry Hyde (R., Ill.) who managed the impeachment trial requested a meeting at the White House. The former president granted the meeting out of lessons of humility and forgiveness he learned from Mandela, he said: BILL CLINTON: I remember one day, oh, about a month after the whole impeachment business was over, Henry Hyde, who had run the whole show, unbelievably enough, maybe a few months after, it was
The world premiere of the “Ballad for Trayvon Martin for Orchestra and Jazz Quartet” is set for tonight. Princeton University’s director of its jazz-studies program composed the work in honor of the Florida teen. Anthony D. J. Branker told the Star-Ledger that the piece is intended to “be a form of healing” after Martin’s death and the controversial court case that followed it. The ballad, which will be performed by the university’s official orchestra and jazz ensemble, is intended to be a tribute to victims of racial violence, Branker explained. He hopes that the performance will be “one that speaks to
WASHINGTON – A fourth straight month of solid hiring cut the U.S. unemployment rate to a five-year low of 7 percent in November, an encouraging sign for the economy. The Labor Department says employers added 203,000 jobs, nearly matching October´s revised gain of 200,000. The job gains helped lower the unemployment rate from 7.3 percent in October. The strengthening job market is likely to fuel speculation that the Federal Reserve may start to scale back its bond purchases when it meets later this month. The economy has now generated an average of 204,000 jobs from August through November. That´s up
WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama has high praise for potential 2016 contenders Vice President Joe Biden and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. “I think Joe Biden will go down in history as one of the best vice presidents ever, and he has been with me, at my side, in every tough decision that I’ve made,” Obama told MSNBC in an interview Thursday held at American University. “Hillary, I think, will go down in history as one of the finest secretaries of state we’ve ever had, and helped to transition us away from a deep hole that we were in,
