| Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) blasted a Democratic super PAC on Saturday night for mocking the Chinese ethnicity of his wife, former U.S. Labor Secretary Elaine Chao, with a Valentine’s Day tweet. “They will not get away with attacking my wife in this campaign,” McConnell told about 100 supporters at a Republican dinner in Winchester, Ky., according to the Associated Press. McConnell´s wife is Taiwanese and one does not call a Taiwanese Chinese. The Taiwanese I have met consider it to be an insult to be called Chinese. Of course liberals don´t know their posterior from a hole in the ground.

Gluten-free diets are all the rage, but they can be dangerous if not done right. What is gluten? It´s the spongy complex of proteins, found naturally in wheat, rye, and barley, that gives elasticity to dough and allows it to rise. When flour is moistened and either kneaded or mixed into dough, gluten molecules form an elastic, microscopic latticework that traps the carbon dioxide produced when yeast ferments, causing dough to inflate like a hot air balloon. Baking hardens the gluten, which helps the finished product keep its shape. Wheat — and gluten — is ubiquitous in the American diet.

BOISE, Idaho — Authorities in eastern Idaho are investigating the shooting deaths of two men and a woman whose bodies were found in a home that contained a marijuana grow operation. The deaths took place sometime between Thursday afternoon and evening by someone who had some type of relationship with the victims, the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office said. The bodies were discovered Friday outside Holbrook, a town of about 400 people just north of the Idaho-Utah state line. Authorities said a 2-month-old was found under the arm of one of the victims — 27-year-old Yavette Chivon Carter.

Climate change is expanding sea ice in Antarctica, a paradoxical finding that appears to be the result of melting glaciers, according to a new study. As freshwater glaciers melt, cold water sinks into the ocean, keeping the sea colder than it would otherwise be. Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise. Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs.
