Warren critics, take note
Boston Herald, by Margery Eagan

Original Article

Posted By:John c, 3/3/2013 7:33:12 AM

Those who like to deride her as the “fake Indian” should know: Freshman U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren has done more for your wallet in the past two weeks than Scott Brown did in two years and most of Congress has managed in their entire careers. Warren crushed and humiliated, first, federal banking regulators, and then Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke on why both sit on their hands while big banks keep shafting average Americans — even though average Americans’ tax dollars bailed them out. Warren did this calmly, graciously, politely, in complete control and without ever reading a note. And she reduced both Bernanke and Elisse Walter, chairman of the mighty Securities and Exchange Commission, to gulping and stammering.

Let´s be up front here and relize that Ms. Egan has her own agenda when it come to the fake indian. Having said that, my son worked on Scott Brown´s campaign and was told by Brown that any bills brought up by any republican in the Senate would be killed by guess who......that´s right HARRY REID. Any bills co-sponsered by dems and repubs, the bills would be re written without the republican´s name on the bill. Maybe Ms. Egan should ask Ms. Warren why no budget has been passed by the democratic controlled senate in four years. Ms. Egan should put calls into her new favorite senator and the senate majority leader and ask what´s going on. But I won´t hold my breath waiting for her to do so.

Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn. She´s right about the banks. During the "Crises", before TARP, money was leaving the big banks for lots of local/regional banks. The response was to remove the cap on bank guarantees. This wasn´t being done to save the banking system but to help the big banks. My wife worked for the Bank that Forbes chose as the best in the Country, Prosperity Bank here in Texas. When they lifted the cap, the spigot of money fleeing to them because they were better run was shut. They are still a great Bank and have started to expand outside of Texas, but favoritism for the "Money Center Banks" slowed that progress.

Warren was in charge of writing Dodd-Frank. She couldn´t get it done so she outsourced it to Goldman Sachs and JP Margin. They, of course, created the coveted Systemic Risk designation that codified TBTF into law and provides the implicit taxpayer backing that allows them lowering the borrowing costs Lizzie is railing against.

It´s no longer surprising when our elites aren´t held accountable for their failures, but when the are celebrated for it, it is just unbelievable.

What the Native American questions the witnesses about is not illegal. So perhaps she might ask her colleague Mr. Reid about the absence of his budget, which is illegal.

Warren put on a very good show. I personally liked the way she skewered the hired help. It won´t be hard to see if it is more than just vaudeville; all she has to do is introduce legislation like the return of Glass-Steagall, or legislation to break up the big banks, whether it has any chance of passage or not. Until then, I am skeptical.

Neal Mullane of Ladder 18 in South Boston, his own scalp gashed and burned, found himself drawn to the Back Bay firehouse that has become a kind of chapel for his grieving brethren. JERUSALEM — The Palestinian militant group Islamic Jihad said Thursday it had agreed to halt a wave of rocket fire on Israel, signaling an end to the heaviest fighting between the sides since 2012, though soon after the announcement two rockets fired from Gaza exploded inside Israel. The Islamic Jihad denied it launched the attack and it wasn´t immediately unclear who fired the rockets. Cease-fire declarations have not always been honored by militants and the barrage raised doubts about the cease-fire offer made by Islamic Jihad. The Israeli military said a total of four rockets were fired Thursday from Gaza.

WASHINGTON — As the Republican field for 2016 stands today, Hillary Clinton doesn’t have much to worry about. In fact, for all the talk about Benghazi and Obamacare, she has a lot to be happy about. The drum-beating of the annual Conservative Political Action Conference — the GOP’s pre-presidential coming-out party — gave us a glimpse of the Republican future. And for the GOP, the future is bleak. Sen. Rand Paul officially won CPAC’s presidential straw poll. His message of libertarianism plays well with the small government crowd. The owners of Leviathan were in Australia this week to try to finalize a year-old non-binding deal, worth up to $2.3 billion, The Australian daily reported. Woodside will pay more than it had originally offered to enter the gas field because its owners want to pipe much of the gas to Turkey and other regional countries. Pipeline exports to Turkey require less development spending, which would increase the value of the gasfield.
