| President Obama, now facing the consequences of automatic spending cuts and the complications they raise for his broader domestic agenda, is taking the most specific steps of his administration in an attempt to ensure the election of a Democraticcontrolled Congress in two years. “What I can’t do is force Congress to do the right thing,” Obama told reporters at the White House on Friday after a fruitless meeting with Republican leaders to avert the country’s latest fiscal crisis, known as the sequester. “The American people may have the capacity to do that.” Obama, fresh off his November

he has no mandate and the public is getting tired of a bad economy. he is an empty suit and he can no longer hide that from us.
the reaction to his budget proposal will be refreshing.

Nowhere in this servile piece of mindless ObamaLove does it mention that the sequestration was Obama´s idea (his lackey´s, obviously, he´s too dumb think it up). So, of course, now he’s lying like crazy and blames everything on someone else. All those "dumb cuts" are his responsibility and his alone.

I will be watching the GOP intently to see what kinds of moronic moves they can invent to reverse the pattern of gaining seats in the third quarter of an opposition administration. The Democrats have already identified the key districts where vote fraud can tip it their way and they are already on the move.

Sorry, #11, the NRA supports pro-gun candidates. That´s why I support them; that´s why I send them money. It is a one-issue organization -- just like I am a one-issue voter. They tend not to get distracted.
If a politician isn´t good on guns, I won´t vote for him, no matter how much I might like everything else (good-bye, Governor Christie).
I am frankly pleased that the otherwise horrible Mr. Reid has a strong hand in the Senate´s vote on gun-control (though I hope he is as pro-gun as he claims). I shudder to think what it would be like with an anti-gun senator like Lautenberg or Ted Kennedy in charge.

#11, Reid knows that Obama´s tent is starting to collapse and like the weasel he is, he does not want to be near it when it does.
He is only interested in securing his power as Majority Leader of the Senate. He will put his own concerns ahead of Obama´s in a hot NY minute when it comes down to it. If it means backing off on a poison pill like gun control, he will do it.
He has a bunch of Senators up for reelection next year that could swing control.

Obama´s legacy--Obamacare--isn´t his idea. It´s been contemplated for decades and the first iteration as Hillarycare didn´t wash.
The real legacy is how all these so-called tea party affiliated conservatives just "go along to get along" now that Justice John Roberts approved this government takeover by taxation that is Obamacare.
The massive tax grab is Obamacare and the probable corruption of the "tax money" gathered is likely the end of the republic as we once knew it.
If it weren´t for the media covering up the details of Bengazi, we would likely have had a new person in charge who "liked certain aspects" of Obamacare.
The villian is not at the door knocking, or sitting in the parlor, but rather is in the bedroom taking away our once honest virtue.
The perversion of the rule of law (formerly known as the US Constitution) and selective enforcing of it and corrupt regulatinion-writing entitities like EPA are going to cause our eventual downfall by a dictator and his accomplices.

As the article points out the party in the White House rarely makes any gains in the 6th year of a president. Clinton was an anomaly, helped by the (temporary) dot.com economic boom and the media´s spin on BlueDress.gate. But - Obama will spend the next 2 years campaigning, and little else.

President Obama kicked off the week in Connecticut with a rallying cry for new gun control measures hand-in-hand with Sandy Hook parents. This afternoon, Obama sat down in the Oval Office with Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel — who, with a military, civilian, and contractor work force on edge about their jobs, is tasked with unveiling what could be a punishing presidential budget for the Pentagon tomorrow. Over at the Senate tonight, Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) filed cloture on the motion to proceed to the gun-control package, which means

President Obama will unveil his 2014 spending plan Wednesday, 65 days late and several trillion dollars short, by Republican standards, of effectively reining in the national debt. But the more relevant fact about the White House budget may be the yawning political void into which it is about to fall on Capitol Hill. Administration officials say their plan offers a path to compromise, a centrist course that avoids the extreme spending cuts of the House Republican budget as well as the $1 trillion tax hike endorsed last month by Senate Democrats. The president’s proposal contains the same set of policies

There’s a Texas Republican who vocally stated that he supported background checks to keep guns away from those who shouldn’t have them. And an assault weapons ban. Don’t believe it? Former President George W. Bush said he supported background checks during the 2000 and 2004 presidential debates. Check out the video proof posted by Buzzfeed. “I believe law abiding citizens ought to be able to own a gun,” he said during a 2004 presidential debate against Democratic challenger John Kerry. “I believe in background checks, at gun shows, or anywhere to make sure

It seems very odd that President Obama has made gun control the signature issue of his second term, so far. He can’t possibly achieve any significant legislation; a few tweaks to the background check system, maybe, but there is no chance of getting any meaningful gun control through the House. The House Democrats aren’t even trying. So it also seems strange that all eyes are on the Senate, where Harry Reid will unveil some sort of gun legislation–no one knows what, exactly–on Thursday. The party’s left-wing base is lining up behind the bill, sight unseen.

In a poll conducted by PoliceOne, a majority of law enforcement personnel said universal background checks, "assault weapons" bans, and "high capacity" magazine bans do not make police safer and will not lower violent crime. Armed citizens, on the other hand, do make a positive difference. In the poll of 15,000 law enforcement professionals, 71% of respondents said an "assault weapons" ban would have zero impact on violent crime. Of those surveyed, 95.7% said the same of a "high capacity" magazine ban, and 79.7% said the same in response to a question on universal background checks.

Vice President Joe Biden gave a heated speech on reducing gun violence this afternoon, lashing out at Republican senators who have vowed to filibuster the gun-control legislation. “It’s almost mind-boggling,” Biden said to law-enforcement officials in Washington, D.C. He asked the senators to consider how their actions are being viewed by the international community: “In sophisticated capitals and in less-sophisticated capitals, they all reported on Sandy Hook, they all reported on Aurora.” “What do you think is being said today in those capitals about us?”

Margaret Thatcher captured Americans’ hearts and minds in a way few other foreign leaders have done, and much of that was because of the symbiotic relationship she had with President Reagan — a relationship that in many ways mirrored the storied “special” friendship between the two countries. Mrs. Thatcher, who died Monday at age 87, was a tough-talking maverick who was bullish on the promise of the U.S. as a force on the international stage. Those traits appealed to Americans weary of the 1970s malaise and eager to hear reasons to believe in themselves. “She had the perfect balance between

Beginning a week of high pressure on gun control, the White House on Monday accused some Republican senators of cowardice for planning to filibuster gun legislation without allowing the full Senate to vote on President Obama’s initiatives. “If they oppose this legislation, have the courage to say so on the floor and vote no,” said White House press secretary Jay Carney. “Don’t block it. There was growing buzz over the weekend that a bipartisan agreement on gun control — a deal that would expand background checks — could hit the floor as early as this week. However, any deal could be derailed by the looming threat of a Republican filibuster involving Texas Sen. Ted Cruz. With Cruz standing proudly in the way of any gun legislation, Democrats are trying to make him pay a political price — and even a couple of high-profile Republicans are questioning his tactics.

Married couple George Harasz and Douglas Wirth of Glastonbury were supposed to be sentenced Friday in Hartford Superior Court under a plea deal, but instead withdrew from their agreement with prosecutors. The men had already pleaded no contest in January to one felony count each of risk of injury to a minor — a reduction from even more serious charges related to sexual assault....
