Fighting the Real Enemy

Creeping totalitarianism is silently supplanting normal human thoughts and beliefs with an omnipresent and soul-destroying moral pathology. Although many wish to find another name for totalitarianism -- something that suggests that it has a purpose beyond power -- that is a mistake. "Socialism" for example, is a dull, empty word. Orwell´s horrific 1984 described a state based upon "Ingsoc" -- English Socialism -- but the Inner Party did not believe in redistributing wealth or helping the poor.

I just walked outside and was shocked to see my sidewalk and road was still there. I thought for sure they´d be gone this morning after the sequester kicked in.

Then I remembered Obama saying it might take a couple more weeks before the pain starts to be felt. Boy,am I grateful for the temporary reprieve.

Obama´s probably smoking a big fat blunt, thinking about all those freaked out federal workers, whose livelihood could come to a standstill any second.

You have to laugh that the biggest benefactors of the sequester were illegal thugs being released from prison and nobody knows who´s responsible for it.You have to get a warm feeling knowing that career bureaucrats can make these kinds of decisions without the president´s knowledge.

In a possible "Twilight Zone" episode, you could turn on your TV to any channel, the radio or computer and see nothing but Obama or his wife engaged in some sort of attack dog rant against the republicans. Don´t bother getting in your car, because he or she is on every channel there also.

In case you want to fall asleep in silence, forget that, because there´s a drone with loudspeakers over your house delivering Obama´s latest mandate. We have you surrounded, put all your guns on the porch and step back.

It´s no surprise that Barack Obama´s authoritarian streak is revealing itself at last. It was always there; clearly apparent in his rhetoric (e.g., his envy of Chinese president Xi Jin-ping´s powers), his abuse of executive orders, his threats against Congress, his sultan with fly-whisk attitudes toward his opposition, and even his vacations, which reek more of third-world trash gamboling on the Riviera than any American leader (George W. Bush settled his mind by clearing brush in Texas, Reagan at his ranch in Santa Barbara. Obama unfortunately finds the brush already cleared in Martha´s Vineyard and Hawaii.)

ObamaCare a Planned Disaster
for Political Reasons

IT experts are starting to weigh in on the spectacular fail of the ObamaCare launch, and explain what happened: political imperatives trumped everything else. The debut of ObamaCare is a perfect demonstration of why government should not be trusted with our health care. People with common sense and reality-based principles -- in a word, conservatives -- understand that government programs are by definition political. Politicians and bureaucrats are not personally accountable for failure, as in the private sector, so failure is acceptable to them. Cost overruns, fraud, and poor service are the norm in government programs for a reason.

Watching Hillary get a Liberty Medal on September 10, the day before the anniversary of the attack on the United States soil and the more recent murder of our ambassador and others in Benghazi, I think it´s time to review the record of a woman whose life is marked by deceit and professional failure and ask about the sanity and judgment of her ardent supporters.

In the past few weeks, militant jihadism has won two major propaganda coups. First, Al Gore, the world´s most famous critic of dirty oil, sold his "progressive network" Current Media, LLC, to the oil sheikhs of Qatar for a reported $500 million. Second, Naomi Wolf, renowned author of Vagina: A New Biography and other top feminist works, sold her soul to the same Islamist patriarchy. The price of Naomi´s soul (possibly including other appendages) has not yet been named. As one wag put it, Naomi will now be the official "on-air Jihadess" of the biggest Islamist propaganda network on the planet.

Growing up as the youngest of the Baer family clan, I knew what to expect in becoming a Baer: a Roman nose, sharp wits, esoteric interests, and, if the genetic dice rolled badly, my grandfather’s terrifying bipolar disorder. I also knew what it was to become a Lair, my mother’s family: patience, craftiness, good hair and bad teeth. Growing up in the Baer Lair (as our mailbox announced) and inheriting an equal, random mix of genes from both sets of parental chromosomes, I had a pretty good idea of what to prepare for.

Ann Coulter, in a recent Kudlow Report, enraged the punditry by suggesting that the mainstream media was a threat to democracy. "I mean, you really wonder if Democrats would win any elections if we had an honest media in this country," Coulter said. "As Pat Caddell says, the media is becoming a threat to democracy." In the runup to the last presidential election, Pat Caddell, a Democratic pollster and staunch liberal, said, "I think we´re at the most dangerous time in our political history in terms of the balance of power in the role that the media plays

Hollywood´s Pious Hypocrisy

Hypocrisy is endemic in Hollywood. That is one reason Barack Obama and other Democrats feel so welcome there. Hypocrisy is a wide spectrum disorder in Hollywood. Similar to a virus, it has many types and mutates as time goes by. There are the obvious displays. However, one form of hypocrisy mostly escapes notice, and it cuts to the heart of the Democrats´ phony posturing. President Obama slammed Mitt Romney for the same thing during the campaign but, of course, is silent when it comes to celebrities.

Proclaiming himself a conciliator and a moderate with a vision of Americans "stand[ing] with each other" and "paying their fair share," President Barack Obama is in fact one of the most partisan presidents ever to occupy the White House. Fine-sounding words notwithstanding, he is a leftist ideologue and no-holds-barred political fighter whose practice has consistently been to demonize the American equivalents of the hated kulaks (farmers) and petit-bourgeoisie (small business owners) persecuted in the Soviet Union.

The Republicans may as well stop their soul-searching and look at the reality of the Democrat electorate. In addition to those Republican voters who stayed home on Election Day, the hard-core (so-called) progressives, the inadequate Republican ground game, and those who pay little or no federal tax and are happy to elect those who promise to take larger sums from those who DO pay, there´s a more profound and possibly intractable problem.

Just prior to the 2008 elections, Barack Obama boldly stated, "We are 5 days away from fundamentally transforming the United States of America" (October 30, 2008) Many among my conservative friends took that to be so much fluff; pretty much liberal boilerplate consistent with his whole "Hope and Change" campaign message. Given, however, Obama´s background, cutting his teeth with the radical leftists/communists of his day (i.e., Frank Marshall Davis, Bernadine Dorn, Bill Ayers, Jeremiah Wright) I chose to take him at his word.

Friendly fire killed Border

Investigators are preparing to announce that the death of Border Patrol Agent Nicholas Ivie in Arizona earlier this week was the result of friendly fire -- accidental gunfire from another agent who responded to the same scene, state and federal officials told NBC News on Friday. The conclusion is based on an analysis of the ballistics, the lack of evidence of other criminals in the area at the time, and other factors, the sources said. The FBI released a statement later on Friday confirming that preliminary evidence showed friendly fire was to blame in the shootings.

Secretary of State John Kerry warned of serious repercussions for Russia on Monday if last-ditch talks over the weekend to resolve the crisis in Ukraine failed to persuade Moscow to soften its stance. Kerry will travel to London for a Friday meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov ahead of a Sunday referendum vote in the Crimea region to secede from Ukraine and join the Russian Federation. U.S. and European officials argue that Moscow is orchestrating the referendum and waging an intimidation campaign with thousands of Russian troops controlling the region. The vote was 233-181 in the Republican-led House as GOP lawmakers excoriated Obama for multiple changes to his 4-year-old health care law, steps he’s taken to allow young immigrants to remain in the United States and the administration’s resistance to defend the federal law banning gay marriage. Will Darrell Issa say he’s sorry? House Democrats again targeted the controversial Issa on Thursday, with a bid to force the California Republican to publicly apologize for what they dub his “repeated history of abuse” toward the minority party. Democratic Rep. Dan Kildee (Mich.)’s resolution condemns Issa for repeated clashes with Democrats – exchanges Kildee said don’t live up to the responsibility of a committee chairman. Issa wields the gavel at the powerful House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, which is probing the Internal Revenue Service controversy and Benghazi, among other hot issues. “[I]t seems that Chairman Issa is more

Madison — Police arrested six people believed to be involved in what they´re calling one of the most brutal crimes in recent memory. Madison police say three men planned a home invasion, but broke into the wrong home on Quincy Avenue on the north side around 6 a.m. on February 23. Police say the suspects were aware it was not the intended home, but they proceeded to violently attack the two victims who had been sleeping. The suspects are accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting the woman who was six months pregnant. "I can tell you that in my 27-plus years of

The Democratic chairman of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee declared Wednesday that cabinet secretaries do not have to answer questions at hearings if they don’t feel like it, the latest breakdown in collegiality. In a politically-charged atmosphere during a hearing on increasing the minimum wage, HELP Committee Chairman Tom Harkin brushed aside ranking Sen. Lamar Alexander´s request for a “yes or no” answer from Labor Secretary Thomas Perez. Alexander was asking Perez if he believes that the Congressional Budget Office is qualified to judge the impact of raising the minimum wage. The CBO has said increasing the

Reilly’s identity was confirmed by Salvatore Arena, an LIRR spokesperson, who said an investigation into the incident was continuing.
