Frustrated McIlroy
walks off course at Honda

Associated Press, by Doug Furguson

Original Article

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. Rory McIlroy abruptly walked off the course Friday at the Honda Classic, telling reporters who followed him to his car he´s "not in a good place mentally." He later said it was more dental than mental, releasing a statement that he couldn´t concentrate because of a sore wisdom tooth. The surprising departure raised serious questions about golf´s No. 1 player with the Masters just more than a month away. McIlroy has played only four rounds in three tournaments this year, and this was a clear sign of frustration.

Comments:
Ernie Els may have diagnosed the problem. It may take McIlroy some time to adjust to nike equipment.

Golf is about talent, effort, desire, and mental toughness. Could it be that Rory only has 2 of 4?

PGA National Champion Course´s water framed Bear Trap (holes 15, 16, and 17) got him. When Rory push-sliced his fairway metal into the lake right of #18, he knew he was on his way to about a 43 on the par 35 back nine, which was his first nine of the day. As Dr. Hannibal Lecter once said, "That won´t do."

Professionals really ought to avoid NCing, which means not turning in a card. It´s bad sportsmanship. Taking your lumps (and turning in your card) on a bad day is part of the sport. Your buddies won´t laugh at you, because they too might eventually have a bad day. I realize that a painful dental condition might be distracting, but if it were really that bad, he should have withdrawn before teeing off. Now it just sounds like an excuse.

When the best players are really on their games, winning tournaments or finishing high every week, they play with a fearlessness born of confidence, which in turn is born of playing well. That fear will kill you if you´re a competitor, for it manifests itself in every phase of the game from the drive to the two foot putt, stroked from the "throw up zone." (You feel like puking if you miss a tap in.)

Rory McIlroy, a gentleman on and off the course, has had one of the quickest starts to a professional career that I have ever seen, playing like a young Jack Nicklaus or Tiger Woods. Even with his otherworldly talents, success might have come too easily to him. I think he will get over this bad stretch soon, but he needs to post some low numbers first. Confidence will follow, and fear will diminish.

What a great line!
"He later said it was more dental than mental"

Applied to the president, it would be "He later said it was more communistical than constitutional"

The Congressional District 2 showdown between Republican Martha McSally and Democrat Ron Barber has gone into overtime - and it could come down to instant replay. McSally holds a minuscule lead of less than two-tenths of a percentage point over Barber - a 400-vote difference in a race in which more 228,000 votes have been tabulated, with several days of additional vote counting to go.

Southern Arizona could be in for a headline-grabbing upset if uncounted votes deliver victory to an upstart Republican over the handpicked successor to former U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords. GOP candidate Martha McSally, in a move either audacious or foolhardy, has called a news conference for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday to comment on the results of her race against Democratic U.S. Rep Ron Barber. McSally’s campaign projects a win in the race for Congressional District 2, which includes Tucson and all of Cochise County.

WESTERVILLE, Ohio — Mitt Romney said Wednesday that President Obama will saddle future generations with trillions of dollars more in debt if he wins another term in office. Speaking to hundreds of supporters gathered in a high school gymnasium here, the GOP presidential nominee said that he would move the nation away from the four straight years of trillion dollar deficits racked up on Mr. Obama’s watch by cutting federal spending and putting the nation on a path to a balanced budget.

The murder trial of abortionist Kermit Gosnell largely is being ignored by the mainstream media, even in the face of grisly testimony, such as what we heard yesterday. Life News reports: ...a former employee described how she heard a baby scream during a live-birth abortion. Abortion clinic employee Sherry West described an incident which "really freaked (her) out" and related to the jury how she heard a child who was born alive following an abortion scream.

HARTFORD, Conn. -- With time running out on the chance to pass gun control legislation, President Barack Obama on Monday warned Congress not to use delaying tactics against tighter regulations and told families of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting victims that he´s "determined as ever" to honor their children with tougher laws. Obama´s gun control proposals have run into resistance on Capitol Hill, leaving their fate in doubt. Efforts by Senate Democrats to reach compromise with Republicans over expanding required federal background checks have yet to yield an agreement, and conservatives were promising to try

Beginning a week of high pressure on gun control, the White House on Monday accused some Republican senators of cowardice for planning to filibuster gun legislation without allowing the full Senate to vote on President Obama’s initiatives. “If they oppose this legislation, have the courage to say so on the floor and vote no,” said White House press secretary Jay Carney. “Don’t block it. Don’t hide behind a procedural action to prevent a vote. That’s the wrong thing to do, and that’s how the president clearly feels.”

There was growing buzz over the weekend that a bipartisan agreement on gun control — a deal that would expand background checks — could hit the floor as early as this week. However, any deal could be derailed by the looming threat of a Republican filibuster involving Texas Sen. Ted Cruz. With Cruz standing proudly in the way of any gun legislation, Democrats are trying to make him pay a political price — and even a couple of high-profile Republicans are questioning his tactics.

The case of a same-sex Connecticut couple accused of repeatedly raping and abusing two of their nine adopted boys is headed for trial. Married couple George Harasz and Douglas Wirth of Glastonbury were supposed to be sentenced Friday in Hartford Superior Court under a plea deal, but instead withdrew from their agreement with prosecutors. The men had already pleaded no contest in January to one felony count each of risk of injury to a minor — a reduction from even more serious charges related to sexual assault....
