| MOBILE, Alabama- Blue Angels pilot Dave Tickle said he is focused on practicing maneuvers for an upcoming show in California instead of worrying about how federal spending cuts will threaten performances this year by the U.S. Navy´s renowned flight demonstration squadron. With $85 billion in automatic cuts due to take effect on Friday, millions of fans across the country will likely miss out on the precision flying team´s thrilling shows this year. Blue Angels shows scheduled in more than two dozen cities between April and September are expected to be canceled as part of the cuts,

What the Navy should be doing is evaluating their return on investment. Do the Blue Angels aid recruitment as much as the TV commercials or are they just entertainment. Are there any other better opportunities for cost savings?
Ha! Or did Obama just say, "Screw ´em, cut the Blue Angels!"

I´d rather see them doing precision flying over Afghanistan or Pakistan. These flying team stunt shows have been used primarily as recruiting tools. They´ve become an anachronism no matter how "cool" they are. This is the very last generation of manned combat aircraft.

The fact that Naval and Marine Aviator training in Pensacola is basically onhold is more significant.
My daughter is scheduled to go to Pensacola for Coast Guard pilot training - but since the CG is under Homeland Security - they continue to train. But, the Marine and Navy pilot training is being cut Way Back.

The Blue Angels are a traditional American icon whose value to traditional America exceeds that of the entire State Department, a seething bed of islamocentric commy coddlers. Calling into question the Blue Angels´ value against a $3T+ budget, one tenth of one percent of which is spent on enumerated government responsibilities, is very progressive.

Our wonderful and spectacular Blue Angels based here in NW Florida will weather this storm. When we hear or see them overhead, we don´t mind the noise. As most of us acknowledge and are proud to say......That´s the sound of freedom.
They stand for and help preserve liberty here in this great country, and others. What more noble purpose is there? They are highly-skilled pilots who have served (and will again) all over the world in critical areas and missions. Their brief time as Blue Angels is merely a stop along the way in their careers. God bless them all.

Don´t fold. Hammer it home that Obama is choosing these cuts over other things. Like the two NLRB workers who do no government work but make over $100,000 per year each. How about targeting them and keeping the Blue Angels?

Geez, folks, I sincerely doubt Obama personally said to drop the Blue Angels. In austerity times, you get rid of the "nice to haves" as one poster said. The Blue Angels are a nice to have, and , they don´t generate money. They don´t get anything from ticket proceeds to airshows.
I agree the GOP should be running to the microphones wiith lists of idiocies such as Obamaphones, welfare cheaters, the Scooter Store, etc, but neither Boehner nor Cantor is a leader. We need conservative LEADERS.
On the other hand, as a retired military officer, I tire of conservatives who screechabout any cutbacks in DoD. They are as ripe for cutbacks as ANY other agency of the federal government. It´s all about our spending problem, and they are part of that machine.
All that said, manned combat aircraft pilots are becoming the new buggy whip makers.

WASHINGTON- Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel says he wants U.S. military law changed so senior commanders can´t overturn courts-martial verdicts in major crimes such as rape. Hagel said the Pentagon´s top lawyers would prepare legislation for Congress that would strip commanders´ power to toss out convictions, "except for certain minor offenses that would not ordinarily warrant trial by court-martial." Convicted defendants still would be able to appeal their cases. But in a move berated by advocacy groups for military sexual-assault victims, Hagel also said he would recommend commanders retain the power to alter courts-martial sentences,

If presidential politics ever involved time travel, President Obama might be in a little trouble. If an election between Ronald Reagan and Barack Obama were held today, 58% would vote for Reagan over Obama, according to a survey of 1,000 Americans age 18 and older conducted by Kelton Research for the National Geographic Channel. Though when the field is narrowed to people ages 18-34 -- those either too young to have known Reagan as president or too young to remember much -- the gap shrinks to 51% in favor of Reagan.

With all due respect to Mother Jones´s conversation-leaker-in-chief David Corn, the recordings published today of a conversation between Sen. We´ve got full background here, but the toplines are this: Corn got hold of a conversation apparently recorded during a presentation by consultants to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell´s reelection campaign. The consultants were opposition researchers, hired by the campaign to ferret out damaging information about actress Ashley Judd, who at one point considered running against McConnell.

Obama was speaking yesterday at the University of Hartford when police, stationed along the president’s route to Bradley International Airport, heard noises coming from a nearby wooded area around 5:50 p.m., said Bloomfield police Capt. Stephen Hajdasz. A detective from the neighboring town of Simsbury ordered the man — identified as 27-year-old Joseph Stravinskas — to drop what appeared to be a rifle, according to Hajdasz.

Beginning a week of high pressure on gun control, the White House on Monday accused some Republican senators of cowardice for planning to filibuster gun legislation without allowing the full Senate to vote on President Obama’s initiatives. “If they oppose this legislation, have the courage to say so on the floor and vote no,” said White House press secretary Jay Carney. “Don’t block it. Don’t hide behind a procedural action to prevent a vote. That’s the wrong thing to do, and that’s how the president clearly feels.”
