Sequestration: Obama trapped by his own tactic

| President Obama is riding a pretty long, unbroken streak of policy victories that is scheduled to come to an end this week. The $85 billion sequester that will reduce spending by a scant 2.4 percent marks the first serious misstep by a president who is overseeing the largest expansion of federal government intervention in the economy in two generations. Mr. Obama has either expanded federal control or protected hard-fought gains during his time in office. He hasn’t gotten everything he wanted, to be sure, but this looks like his first step backward.

I´m not quite as optimistic as Mr. Valvo, but it´s a baby step in the right direction.
Just don´t cave, Republicans: Embrace it. The CR is the real fight - standing firm here will help set it up.

Its not a decrease in spending. Its a decrease in the rate of increase of spending.

Looks like his first step barackward? Is the writer kidding? So would that mean forward steps include $6 trillion in new debt, arming Mexican drug lords to kill hundreds, cash for clunkers, green energy bankruptcies, higher taxes, a stagnant economy, endless increases of welfare to the slothful, high unemplyment, incompetent Cabinet criminals, class warfare and the war on prosperity, a nonexistent work ethic, doubled gas prices, the downgrade, and the ghastly ZeroCare?
But hey, it´s after midnight on the east coast and the world hasn´t blown up yet, so what do you say we chop up some more budgets? Air Force One´s travel itinerary would be a good start.

If the GOP leaders fold on sequesteration they will never win on funding in March.
And if the House GOP can´t stick together nothing will be gained either tomorrow or later.
Despite his track record Boehner is the only chance of reining in Obama.

I´m worried about the sun coming up Sat. morning unless there´s a last minute deal to raise taxes. We´re liable to be struck by an asteroid because space observation has been cut.
USDA workers will get to sleep at home instead of on the job which could lead to poison horsemeat finding it´s way to grocery shelves..
They could lay off border agents along the Canadian border, even at the risk of Mexicans slipping through.

Obama overplayed his hand on this one. No doubt based on more bad advice from his handler ValJar. It won´t stop him. His entire plot falls apart if he can´t manage to get a huge tax increase. That is the wealth redistribution that will be his true legacy. Step one destroy the economy and add millions to the government dole. Step two make everyone else poor paying for it. He has no intention of giving up on that dream.

Obama is still the community organizer whose goal is to push those in power to do what they want. He doesn´t want to take responsibility so if Boehner caves in too fast he doubles down on his demands so there will be no agreement with his name on it. With this crisis even Boehner has learned not to deal with him. A leader takes responsibility and gives credit but Obama takes credit and gives responsibility - ( Blame to the GOP ). Obamas sequester scare strategy to resist cuts is no different than any municipal government cutting the most important government services first but leave the waste and bloat untouched. The disasters he predicts could actually happen if the spending he defends is not cut by much more that the 2% now at stake!

Where Obama missed this one is that those who take from the government don´t care about government employees they only care about the check or the EBT card they get. As long as the checks keep coming they could care less about the people behind the scenes or in other agencies that they don´t take from.
If his sequester deal had included cuts to food stamps and medicaid then the LoFo´s would be rioting. Since Obama dreamed up the sequester he didn´t want to propose cuts to those programs so he targeted the Republican sacred cows. The Republicans finally grew a pair and now he´s in a box.

Since Boehner and his bunch have a track record that is less than sterling, I expect they will, once again, cave at the last minute. A "group of" who have been working in secret will come riding to the rescue to save us all from the catastrophe that is coming. They will smile and sanctimoniously pat each other on the back for their bipartisan compromise. The media will cheer. All will be well. Obama will preen. Best of all, we get to do this all again and again because Obama will make sure he never runs out of crises.

I would bet that when Obama first cooked up this Sequestration scheme 5 or 6 months ago, he never in his wildest imagination thought that republicans would actually take him up on his bluff. After all, no one has ever believed his bluster in the past, have they?
This has been quite amusing to watch him dangle by his own petard. I have always wondered what that looked like. Now we all do. Imagine how bad this would be for him if the media wasn´t covering for him.

I don´t think there´s any way that the pubbies cave now. They are all up for re-election again too soon, and at some point they must realize, that unlike most of Obama´s lofo voters, theirs are paying attention.

Things aren´t looking too good. We have been sold out to: George Soros, the Saudis, Muslim Brotherhood with CPUSA going along with Obama´s agenda. We´ve been losing ground against communism since the 1950´s. The Republicans are the last line. Let´s hope they don´t cave. We need something to help turn the tide our way for a change.
No wonder Obama had his college records sealed, he never finished anything. Is this the new normal, having this financial debate come up every few months while the country suffers for other unresolved important matters? It´s really getting old and boring.

It has really taken a long time for Congressional Republicans to figure out Obama´s shenanigans.
Pubbies are like a rather homely girl who finds herself being courted by the captain of the football team. She wants, with all her heart, to believe he finds her interesting, when all he wants to do is _______(you fill in the blank).
Only when Ms Homely sees him laughing about her behind her back and snuggling up to the Prom Queen, does it dawn on her that he was only interested in her because she appeared "easy".
Once Ms Homely shakes herself out of her stupor and denial does she begin to fight back in ways that will let others know what a cad he is.
She has vowed to herself that others will learn that the smart guy, who played skillfully for years and was a loyal team member who loves his school, should have become the captain of the team. They will see that this fancy-pants, showoff, who only played in a few games and didn´t really play all that well, is just fancier than the smart/loyal guy.

If they hold firm than all bad economic news from this day forward will be blamed on the Republicans for not compromising to aviod the sequester. The media will parrot that line and ignore all the other economy wrecking policies this jerk has implmented (Health Control bill, EPA Madness, Drilling Permitoriam, Dodd-Frank, etc. etc.

People will care about sequestration because the media is going to whip them into a frenzy. Tonight I watched a snippet of the local news. Students who receive federal grants in Illinois just received last minute notice that they must complete pages upon pages of forms before tomorrow to remain eligible for their financial aid. You can imagine the hysteria reported in this story. It´s just starting and we´re going to be going insane hearing all the lies and watching this administration using sequestration as a club to beat us all down.

Good one for Boehner and McConnell. Although this so-called $85 million of increased spending will now be cut (I thought it was actually $44 billion), the over-spending will continue..big time just 2.4% less.
Obie will just have to look past Mooschelle tonight and open a can of corned beef hash for dinnner tonight and get over it, beaten and done for the week; you hear, Barak?

Democratic Party officials believe that Kevin Strouse is exactly the kind of candidate who can help them retake the House next year. He’s a smart, young former Army Ranger — good qualities for any aspiring politician. But what party leaders really like is that Strouse doesn’t have particularly strong views on the country’s hottest issues. Immigration? Tax policy? “Certainly I have a lot of research to do,” Strouse acknowledged in an interview Thursday as he announced his candidacy in a suburban Philadelphia House district. Strouse’s candidacy reflects an emerging

Put out an all-points bulletin: Millions of Americans have gone missing from the workforce. Every month that those would-be workers are gone raises the odds that they might never come back, dimming the prospects for future economic growth. The vanishing trend is more than a decade old, but it accelerated during the Great Recession. Throughout 2012, economists held out hope that it had stopped. But then came Friday’s jobs report, and hopes were dashed. The Labor Department reported that the U.S. labor force — everyone who has a job or is looking for one — shrank

Carbon emissions in the US were at their lowest level in 2012 since 1994, according to figures released by the US Energy Information Administration. We did it without carbon trading scams, the EPA making carbon dioxide a poison, or obeying the dictates of the Kyoto climate Treaty. We did it partly because of decreased economic activity as a result of the Obama recovery-that-isn’t, but mostly because of good old fashioned market forces; competition between natural gas and coal: Energy-related carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions in 2012 were the lowest in the United States since 1994

It is amazing just how wrong economists were in their predictions for the number of jobs that were to be created in March. The “consensus” figure was 200,000 — a far cry from the actual number created which was 88,000. Totally “unexpected,” as usual. In one way, you can’t blame them. After a better than average gain in February of 236,000 (revised upward this month to 268,000), along with some positive numbers in housing and consumer spending, there were no doubt many analysts who began breathing a sigh of relief and believing that the long-awaited jobs recovery was upon us.

This shouldn´t surprise Lowery. When the liberals hang onto the neck of a cause, they don´t let go. They have ignored murders, rapes, wars, nuclear proliferation, and everything wrong with the world to focus in on their little area -- the horror of carbon emissions. You´d think liberals would have learned from their earlier panic about overpopulation

President Obama will propose a budget next week that embraces a risky strategy of courting Republicans for a grand bargain on the debt while angering Democratic allies with cuts to the nation’s entitlement programs. White House officials said Friday that Obama’s budget would cut Medicare and Social Security and ask for less tax revenue than he has previously sought. The budget, to be released Wednesday, will fully incorporate the offer Obama made to House Speaker John A. Boehner (R-Ohio) during December’s “fiscal cliff” talks — which included $1.8 trillion in deficit reduction through spending cuts and tax increases.

President Obama´s biggest gaffe yesterday when speaking of California Attorney General Kamala Harris was not in flirtatiously complimenting her as "the best-looking attorney general," but in introducing an observation from the system of beauty into a forum that was about the system of power. What´s that, you say? Irin Carmon does a great job in Salon in laying out the bounds of propriety for when it´s appropriate to talk about a woman´s looks as a general matter. But I´ve long felt we lack a solid theoretical underpinning for easily discussing these issues, and why precisely it is that

Los Angeles — Some people have had it with TV. They´ve had enough of the 100-plus channel universe. They don´t like timing their lives around network show schedules. Beyonce and Jay-Z celebrated their fifth wedding anniversary in Cuba this week. The couple, who married on April 4, 2008, took in the sights of Old Havana, visited a school, dined on a rooftop terrace and strolled the fan-filled streets in their island best.(snip).The power couple declined to answer journalists´ questions about their visit to the island nation, but some outlets are reporting that the moguls are there as tourists, though that would be illegal because of the half-century embargo the U.S. has on the Communist country.
