| Eager for a strong Democrat who could challenge Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell in his Kentucky reelection next year, liberals are rushing to defend actress Ashley Judd against claims her record of odd comments makes her the Todd Akin of the left. "Ashley Judd Is Not the Next Todd Akin," headlined an online article in Mother Jones. "The Ashley Judd Dirt-Digging Campaign Is in Effect," said the Atlantic Wire. At issue: Years of lefty comments made by activist Judd, said to be considering a run against McConnell, that likely won´t fly in the conservative state.

Glenn Greenwald is the Guardian journalist who broke the story of the NSA snooping. Greenwald came to prominence during the Bush years by denouncing that administration’s anti-terrorism policies. To his credit, Greenwald is one of the few on the left who has remained consistent and now criticizes Obama policies with almost as much zeal as he criticized Bush. Not to his credit, Greenwald developed a habit of using fake commenters to defend his written positions when others criticized him, and then denied that he engaged in any sockpuppetry. Greewald blamed the sockpuppetry on his boyfriend.

A July meeting of the House GOP conference on immigration reform was not scheduled in response to pressure from conservatives, several Republican leadership offices said Friday. Behind Reps. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.), Steve King (R-Iowa) and Louie Gohmert (R-Texas), conservative Republicans have been circulating a petition this week calling on House GOP leaders to stage a special conference meeting on comprehensive reform, according to several news outlets. The idea is to prolong the debate in hopes of killing the bill. Republican leaders have scheduled such a meeting on July 10.

There is no evidence that the FBI has contacted a single tea party group in its criminal investigation of the Internal Revenue Service, according to the groups the IRS abused. “We have not been contacted by any federal investigative agency and, to date, none of our clients have been contacted or interviewed by the FBI,” Jay Sekulow of the American Center for Law and Justice told The Daily Caller on Thursday. When asked about the situation, CBS News responded with a statement that it was conducting an investigation.... “A cyber security firm hired by CBS News has determined through forensic analysis that Sharyl Attkisson’s computer was accessed by an unauthorized, external, unknown party on multiple occasions late in 2012.
