Bob Woodward called a senior White House official last week to tell him that in a piece in that weekend’s Washington Post, he was going to question President Barack Obama’s account of how sequestration came about - and got a major-league brushback. The Obama aide “yelled at me for about a half hour,” Woodward told us in an hour-long interview yesterday around the Georgetown dining room table where so many generations of Washington’s powerful have spilled their secrets. Digging into one of his famous folders, Woodward said the tirade was followed by a page-long email from the aide,
Comments: There have been many things I have disagreed with Woodward on. However, I am glad he is not backing down from 0bama and his Marxist regime. Maybe the rest of the media will take a lesson from him. Probably not.
The individual who threatened Woodward is a male (per Woodward). Politico just posted this article at 80 this evening.....after Mark Levin talked about it on his show. Politico´s conversation with Woodward too place YESTERDAY.
Obama made a speech announcing the withdrawal of our troops from Afghanistan, and all I heard was Nixon announcing peach in Vietnam. And ever since than...I keep seeing parallels between Obama and Nixon. Both paranoid. Both thin skin. Nixon was pragmatic and believed in the government´s ability to control aspects of our life to make it better. Obama is an egotist who believes in his right to rule...that he knows best an thus all should worship him. Nixon at least intelligent and loved this county. And deep down I think he was a good man. Anyway, it would be interesting to ask Woodward to do a compare and contrast between the two men and their Presidencies. Be interesting see if Woodward has finally figured out what a criminal really looks like...
Just went to WAPO to read their version of this story. Ummmm... search engine must not be working, I couldn´t find it. Certainly WAPO will cover what Saint Woodward is saying.... hahahahahahahahahahahaha
You GO Bob, you have hit a very raw nerve and Barry is not very happy...but Barry needs to remember that you helped bring down Nixon, and he was 1000 times more the President than Barry can even dream about being! At least you are doing true reporting that the rest of the Lame Stream News Media is not doing because they are too busy protecting their Messiah and carrying the water for him!
Administration policy starts at TOP. The President makes threats in public. No one can criticize this Administration without repercussions. Mr Woodward should take it right to them on EVERY policy that is damaging the Nation.
You know, it is actually smart for us to sit back and let someone like Woodward lead the fight. He has a lefty pedigree which holds more weight with Dems. There is no way they can paint him as right wing or racist. Let more lefty journos jump on the band wagon as it gathers momentum before we climb aboard and enjoy the ride.
Well, I´m glad that Woodward´s a little revved up over this. Maybe something good will come of it.
Notice, though, the part where he says “I think if Obama himself saw the way they’re dealing with some of this, he would say, ‘Whoa, we don’t tell any reporter ‘you’re going to regret challenging us.’ ”
It reminds me that, in old Imperial Russia, some atrocity would occur in the countryside, and the peasants would say to each other, "If only the Czar knew about this, he would fix it." Later, in the Soviet Union, they would say "If only Stalin knew."
Woodward, good liberal that he is, will cave like all liberals do. Someone will take him to the woodshed. Someone already threatened him, so don´t count on steadiness or character from Woodward.
What Woodward or someone else should ask this White House: "Do you seriously plan to risk American lives by cutting first responders while letting criminals out of jail around the country? And what are all those hollow-point bullets y´all bought up going to be used for?"
Woodward is credited with bringing down nixon. I am cheering for him to do it again. Obama has dozens of scandals worse than watergate. Woodward was popular the first time around and was made an instant hero. Now he can be a real hero and a real patriot. Now who wants to be "deep throat" in the Obama Admin?
Woodward is speaking the truth and the WH is telling him he will regret it. Of course it´s a threat. This is falling apart on Obama. He isn´t telling some fibs. He is telling some huge outrageous lies. This is better than a soap opera.
Fascinating to see Mika Brezghenski (squinting, which is what she does when she thinks she is registering "thought") on todays Morning Joe go´s on about this being business as usual, push back from some aid, and never mention that the "aid" threatening was Gene Sperling, one of Obama´s top economic advisors.
A bit later Morning Joe (and Joe is such a jerk, even when he is defending!) showed a piece by another of Obama´s top guys saying Woodward MAY have been big time once but his is obviously past his sell by date. Let´s see if they can get away with trashing the man-----I doubt that he will back down. He is a Dem, no doubt, but he also has journalistic ethics that he tries to live by. Go Bob go! It´s about time someone calls to account our own personal Hugo Chavez and his cult of personality, which allows him to bend and break the law.
HuffPoo is already isolating the target. Woodward is their headline right now, and they refer to him as a "drama king". The article reads like it was written by the White House. They admit that Gene Sperling was the one who yelled at him. The article sneeringly implies that Woodward is a whiny baby and even mentions that Mr. Sperling is not "physically threatening", as if reporters were afraid of getting slugged, not losing access. The threatening email is characterized as apologetic, but ol´ drama king Woodward is obviously too dumb to understand the words written in it.
The left now has it´s narrative - White House = voice was raised, but now unthreatening little Gene Sperling is apologizing for his decibel level. Woodward = old, entitled, has-been attention seeker making a mountain out of a molehill because he needs the attention.
Wonder if Mr. Woodward is sorry yet? Will he be by the end of the day? The White House is demonstrating exactly what the threat meant, aren´t they?
Note what constitutes "war" to journalists today...merely daring to openly speak the truth. Woodward isn´t attacking Obama. Not is he attacking his policies. He was simply refusing to let a false version of the source of the sequestration go unchallenged. And now that´s "war". Pretty damning commentary on the state of journalism today.
And I don´t agree that Woodward will automatically return to the liberal fold once he feels the wrath of their ostracism. There are plenty of us former liberals now turned genuine conservatives here who understand exactly that this is Woodward´s "lightning bolt moment". You don´t need to get hit twice to understand what just happened.
I´m currently listening to "Mornings on the Mall" on WMAL talk radio out of DC. Apparently Lanny Davis ( of the Clinton machine ) got this same treatment from the WH over columns he wrote for the Washington Times. The WH also threatened the editor of the Times with loss of WH press credentials if the Times didn´t reign Davis in.
Zippy is shredding the First Amendment. In a sane world the press would turn on him - we´ll see...
The first thought I had when Woodworm came out with his concern, was he has now lost his access to the White House. The next move will probably be a walk back of sorts. In the meantime, in between time, it will be fun.
Yet another good example of how mean and ruthless our little man in the White House is. Birds of a feather flock together, as we see, and his bunch of high-powered thugs are proving it.
How sad and embarrassing to have Obama - a man of this caliber - as our president. It´s fortunate for us they threatened a reporter who is definitely not a right-winger. Surely some of the MSM will believe him.
I don´t know. Seems to me Woodward is not going to compromise all his work to just cave now. He was trying to support his points made in his book, and if Obama Hadn´t been so "chicken little" all week, none of this would even be news.
This gets in the weeds now, because it is obvious we have an incompetent leader, and the WHAT the lie is becomes second to the drama around it. And rest of the LSM are comatose.
If this story has real muscular legs, I´ll be surprised. In the end, Washington is all about accessibility of information. I am sure Mr. Woodward´s reputation is respected but the knives will turn when his exposé is focused on Democrat president. I can´t believe that he wants to be the guy who causes trouble for Obama. He would much rather his legacy be taking down Nixon.
Bob Woodward is nothing less than the elder statesman of American journalism and he is speaking out against the Obama administration. This is huge! Also, he´s made so much money on his books and lecture fees that the WaPo needs him much more than he needs the WaPo. He can enjoy independence of thought and deed. I think he is trying to right the ship of state that is the American MSM. The 24/7 fawning over Obama is driving away readership. And money. We´ll see if this is working if and when more journalists start to criticize Obama. I haven´t watched ´Morning Joe´ since before the election, but if they are sympathizing with Bob Woodward then his strategy is starting to work. Regardless, this is definitely popcorn worthy.
#22 I noticed that last night with Bob Beckel on O´Reilly. When these dimbos get backed into a corner by the truth, they claim "everybody did it!" Does that make it right? I thought bammy was supposed to be DIFFERENT! Yeah...right.
#1 - Quite a bit, actually. In fact, one time that he called one of the folks in CREEP (I forget just who) mentioned something about Katherine Graham was putting her "breast" in a wringer on "this one". I wish that I had more info, but the fact is that they DID call to get responses BEFORE they placed stories into the Post.
The state controlled media will make Bob look like a crazed nut case before they will allow their lord and master, lord messiah o´bama to be seen for what he really is... A FRICKEN LUNITIC!!!! Lord messiah o´bama is being prepped to be New World Order dictator, according to Henry Kissenger in World Net Daily. The world´s people better keep an eye on lord messiah o´bama´s antics here in America because one day soon he may be doing the same to those countries and then NO ONE will be able to control him. The state controlled media will allow nothing to happen to lord messiah o´bama so in a few days this story will g away or the state controlled media will blame the republicans for what is about to happen and the sad part about this is over seventy-five percent of americans will believe the state controlled media´s fabricated stories.
I´m not yet ready to sign high praises to Bob woodward. He is and has been a life long liberal Dim and I just don´t think that he has made the transition to conservative. Remember, conservatives will give anyone credit for telling the truth. Especially when it concerns a morass of lies and deceit that the WH currently is.
And as for the WH threatening him, that´s really not even arguable. Of course they did. They do something like that to anyone who crosses their path. I wish Woodward good luck and pray that he doesn´t walk back on his word.
Woodward was able to bring down a president for simply lying to attempt to cover up a minor burglary. Imagine what he could do with four years of serious criminal acts, treason, election fraud and theft. I assume he knows how to watch his back because the threats WILL be followed up by action.
Now Americans with half a brain can clearly see the formation of the dictator (Americans with more than half a brain saw it earlier). Media is self-censoring itself very efficiently, except the "geniuses" with enormous ego, like Woodward. He mistakenly thought that he can say whatever he wants. Woody, it doesn´t work this way - no untouchables in the totalitarian society!
I don´t think that Woodward will back down. He has spent the last four years in a fog watching the current administration pursure every course of action in an opposite manner that he, a devout liberal would propose. I think that the Drone Program and Gitmo´s continued existance are pushing him to a realization that he has been slow to acknowledge.
woodward, schmoodward, who cares! He is dedicated lib, who thinks that he can talk freely, while getting his paycheck from the leftist commie/fascists. Woody, you are wrong! Btw, all this talk: obozo knew, obozo didn´t? Yeah, stalin also didn´t know, and hitler didn´t know! There were russians and germans who actually believed in that.... I laugh at pundits comparing what is becoming of America with Europe. No, guys, it is not even close to that!
An Iron Curtain has descended on the Washington press corps.
The proof that dictatorship is now operating in Washington is the fact that The Washington Post and other members of the liberal MSM are so weak and intimated by the White House´s threats against Bob Woodward that they´re fallen silent, or worse.
Not only are Bob Woodward´s colleagues afraid to speak up on his behalf and on behalf of freedom of the press, but some are even going out of their way to publicly bash Mr. Woodward to gain favor with the Obama dictatorship.
Bob Woodward has the opportunity to write a scathing expose about the Obama administration. He can travel to an undisclosed location to do so, if he feels uncomfortable in Washington. But will he? It´s doubtful that he has any more backbone than his cowering colleagues.
Well said #47 as usual. Notice the media immediately cut out Woodward´s comment on MSNBC that placed the Obama actions in the same status he did in the Nixon coverup. The first Woodward comment then was over the stupid attempt to shut up and lock up the high official´s wife. That comment om MSNBC followed his concern about Obama rushing around sounding off about crippling the military. Woodward I quote "This is the kind of madness that I haven´t seen in a long time." How much more direct can he be? How could he not then put it all on the line to call out Obama for his madness?
#39, if Woodward gets invited to the Sunday am faze the nation and meet the depressed programs, they´ll try to Palinize him, anyway. But, at the same time, I think Woodward would hold his own. Strange, right now, that I feel for the same character who chose to bring Nixon down.
Reading this Detroit News story about the tale of a $1 million dollar check that ended up in a desk drawer for a month before being deposited, I tried to imagine what the city employee was thinking when they so casually and negligently dealt with Detroit’s money. I came to the conclusion that the employee wasn’t thinking — period. As the story makes clear, city employees, their managers, on up the chain to their political masters — all have embraced a dysfunctional mindset where they believe the problems of the city are so immense,
Anthony Weiner’s campaign fund-raising has virtually dried up since revelations of a sexting relapse rocked his bid for mayor. Weiner (inset) received an average of just $1,897 a day in donations since the new sexting scandal erupted July 23, campaign finance records released Friday show. That’s a trickle of the $16,434 he received each day, on average, in the 50 days after launching his run for mayor on May 22. The records also show that Weiner’s wife, Huma Abedin, collected no money on his behalf
Because a media that should be in competition with one another instead protects one another, there is no mention of CNN chief Jeff Zucker´s connection to Cory Booker´s online start up in this MSNBC piece. But when you have MSNBC fretting that the stench around a company attached to a Democrat rising star stinks, it is worthy of note: If Aaron Sorkin were to craft a movie about Newark Mayor Cory Booker, you can bet that Waywire, Booker’s controversial technology start-up, would provide a cautionary tale for the mayor’s voracious ambition.
Despite political pressure from both sides of the aisle, there are talks happening behind the scenes that may lead to an unlikely team working together to produce this controversial Hillary Clinton miniseries. The New York Times´ Bill Carter reports the "odd" team of NBC and Fox Television Studios are in early talks to co-produce the four part Hillary Clinton miniseries, released in 2016 ahead of a yet-to-be-announced presidential run, that network chairman Robert Greenblatt announced last week at a Television Critics Association panel. The Hollywood Reporter says this is happening, too. Neither company seems to care about
Ames, Iowa — Representative Steve King (R., Iowa) says he’s “enjoying” his job, but refused to rule out a presidential bid in 2016. King, whose upcoming visit to early primary state South Carolina ignited talk that he might be thinking about the presidency, tells National Review of 2016, “I haven’t ruled anything in or out. I’m enjoying my job.” “I’ve watched here as any member of the house or senate that sets foot on Iowa soil … [it] starts a rumor that they’re running for president. And I’ve been coming back here to Iowa over and over again,
There’s still a real chance that the Captain Schettinos of the House Republican brain trust will rescue Obama’s presidency by passing an amnesty. But some in the open-borders crowd are getting nervous about John Boehner’s ability to achieve Obama’s objectives. Their fear is that this session of Congress will end with no amnesty bill on the president’s desk, or with one whose criteria they consider too draconian. Their fallback strategy? Have Obama amnesty the illegal population by administrative fiat.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada said Friday that Obamacare isn´t the final word in government health care reform, it´s just a big step toward the real solution, which is a single-payer system. The Las Vegas Sun reports that Reid made that statement during an appearance on a Nevada PBS news discussion program: "Reid said he thinks the country has to ´work our way past´ insurance-based health care during a Friday night appearance on Vegas PBS´ program Nevada Week in Review. "´What we´ve done with Obamacare is have a
Over the last few days, militant atheist author Professsor Richard Dawkins has caused an uproar with a Tweet that transcended the bounds of Twitter and made it into the (mostly British) mainstream media. Dawkins tweeted: “All the world’s Muslims have fewer Nobel Prizes than Trinity College, Cambridge. They did great things in the Middle Ages, though.” I had once considered tweeting something similar — that the inventions of Jewish doctors had saved more Islamic lives than all the imams in history put together — but
Americans renouncing U.S. citizenship surged sixfold in the second quarter from a year earlier as the government prepares to introduce tougher asset-disclosure rules. Expatriates giving up their nationality at U.S. embassies climbed to 1,131 in the three months through June from 189 in the year-earlier period, according to Federal Register figures published today. That brought the first-half total to 1,810 compared with 235 for the whole of 2008. The U.S., the only nation in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development that taxes citizens wherever they reside, is searching for tax cheats in offshore centers,
The IRS official in charge of the exempt organizations office in the Cincinnati branch at the time conservative groups applying for tax-exempt status were unfairly targeted just got a promotion. Cindy Thomas has been appointed to the senior technical adviser team for the Director of Exempt Organizations. Thomas, a 35-year IRS veteran, will fill the spot vacated by Sharon Light. Light, a one-time close adviser to Lois Lerner, is the sixth senior IRS official to leave the agency. Lerner is the employee at the center of the political storm that hit the nation earlier this year. She was
AILES: Well, generally I don’t confirm or deny any rumors; that’s a rumor at the moment. However Megyn has earned a better time period, she’ll be in our prime time lineup. But I must quickly say that all of our stars will be back. We have new deals with Hannity and Greta and Shep. Shep and I have been working quietly on something we’ll roll out, probably in mid September, about how news is presented. I think it’s kinda done in an old fashioned way and I think we have a
The conservative Republican Study Committee (RSC) is preparing to unveil legislation that would replace ObamaCare with a new set of healthcare reforms. A spokesman for RSC Chairman Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.) confirmed Friday that members of the group will introduce their measure after the August recess. "Chairman Scalise and the RSC Health Care Working Group are drafting legislation to repeal ObamaCare and replace it with a conservative alternative that fixes the problems in our healthcare system without the harmful taxes and mandates in the President´s law,"
The owner of a shop in Zurich where US talk show host Oprah Winfrey says she encountered racism has called the incident a "misunderstanding". Winfrey, one of the world´s richest women, claimed an assistant refused to serve her in an upmarket handbag shop. She was apparently told one of the bags on display was "too expensive" for her. Shop owner Trudie Gotz told the BBC that Winfrey was "absolutely allowed" to look at the $35,000 (£22,500) bag, which was kept behind a screen. "My salesperson wanted to give her the handbag in her hand. But she didn´t want
Retired 68-year-old US Army general and former NATO Supreme Allied Commander Wesley K. Clark has won yet another esteemed decoration — he is dating 30-year-old Shauna Mei, the founder of online retailer AHAlife.com. Clark, who was married to Gertrude Kingston Clark for 45 years before filing for divorce last year, is spending time with the young New York-based entrepreneur, who graduated from MIT and worked at Goldman Sachs as an investment banker before launching her luxury e-commerce site. Clark and Mei were spotted together recently in the Hamptons,
Nanny State: If any question remained about the Obama White House´s appetite for running everyone´s life from Washington, it should be settled now. This administration even wants to dictate neighborhood makeup. Like your neighborhood? Don´t get used to it. The Obama Department of Housing and Urban Development might decide it wants to dictate changes. HUD is, according to Fox News, considering "a new rule that would allow the feds to track diversity in America´s neighborhoods and then push policies to change those it deems discriminatory." The proposed rule, disclosed last month by HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan at
In a remarkable admission that is likely to rock the Internal Revenue Service again, testimony released Thursday by House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp reveals that an agent involved in reviewing tax exempt applications from conservative groups told a committee investigator that the agency is still targeting Tea Party groups, three months after the IRS scandal erupted.. In closed door testimony before the House Ways & Means Committee, the unidentified IRS agent said requests for special tax status from Tea Party groups is being forced into a special "secondary screening" because
“IQ is a metric of such dubiousness that almost no serious educational researcher uses it anymore,” the Guardian’s Ana Marie Cox wrote back in May. It was a breathtakingly ignorant statement. Psychologist Jelte Wicherts noted in response that a search for “IQ test” in Google’s academic database yielded more than 10,000 hits — just for the year 2013. (Snip) There is a large discrepancy between what educated laypeople believe about cognitive science and what experts actually know. Journalists are steeped in the lay wisdom, so they are repeatedly surprised when someone forthrightly discusses the real science of mental ability.
Tonight, I went on Lawrence O´Donnell´s show, and Lawrence O´Donnell yelled at me. Or, rather, he O´Reilly´d at me. That O´Donnell interrupted and harangued and mansplained and was generally an angry grandpa at me is not what I take issue with, however. What bothers me is that, look: your producers take the time to find experts to come on the show, answer your questions, and, hopefully, clarify the issue at hand.
The Clintons have decided to rent a different house in the Hamptons this summer after they only received a small portion of their security deposit back from the home they rented last year. The famous Democrats have been frequent visitors to the expensive summer getaway in Long Island, and rented the same beachfront house in 2011 and 2012. [Snip] When it comes to rentals in the Hamptons, many owners use the security deposits as a way to pay for the utility fees like heat and grounds-keeping charges. It should be little surprise then that the Lily Pond Lane home
WASHINGTON—The White House announced that President Barack Obama will award the Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian award, to 16 recipients including television star and businesswoman Oprah Winfrey, legendary Washington Post editor Ben Bradlee and former President Bill Clinton. “The Presidential Medal of Freedom goes to men and women who have dedicated their own lives to enriching ours,” Mr. Obama said in a statement released by the White House. “This year’s honorees have been blessed with extraordinary talent, but what sets them apart is their gift for sharing that talent with the world.”
At a White House press conference Friday afternoon, President Obama said that health insurance plans offered under Obamacare will be "significantly cheaper" than plans currently on the market, but a string of recent reports say that isn´t true. "What happens on October 1, in 53 days, is for the remaining 15 percent of the population that doesn´t have health insurance, they´re going to be able to go on a website or call up a call center and sign up for affordable, quality health insurance at a significantly cheaper rate than what they can get right now on
Justice: The wife of a Fort Hood survivor claims the Defense Department is "slapping victims with gag orders" and telling family members not to talk to the press following testimony in the trial of Nidal Hasan. One of the great scandals of the Obama administration has been its shameful designation of the Nov. 5, 2009, rampage at the Army base in Killeen, Texas, by Maj. Nidal Hasan as "workplace violence." It has only compounded the pain and suffering of the victims and their families who have now apparently been ordered to shut up about it.
Nobody tells Oprah she can´t afford a handbag. Oprah Winfrey is one of the richest entertainers in the world, thanks to her willdly successful 25-season run on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" and her latest media foray with the newly revitalized Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN). The entertainer earned an estimated $77 million from June 2012 to June 2013 alone, according to Forbes, but she says she still experiences racism because she is African American. Take this latest incident in Switzerland, where "The Butler" star went to attend the nuptials of good friend and singer Tina Turner last month.
Forty to 50 House Republicans will support immigration reform, Rep. Luis Gutiérrez (D-Ill.) predicted Thursday. Gutiérrez said many of the Republicans supportive of immigration reform don’t want to be identified, but he insisted they would support comprehensive immigration reform. “If they ask me today, go find those 40 to 50 Republicans, I’ll tell them I found them. I know where they’re at,” Gutiérrez said in an interview with Ed O’Keefe at The Washington Post.
