Health care decisions await

But he’s considering a hiring freeze.Phil Henderson is at a tipping point. His small business, Henderson Properties in Charlotte, has 48 employees and seven job openings. But he’s considering a hiring freeze. The growing company, which handles property management, maintenance and real estate sales, could use the extra hands, Henderson says. But if he hires two more employees, he’ll reach the 50-employee threshold that requires small business owners to comply with President Barack Obama’s new Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

Comments:
Small businesses are trying to figure out what to do. Under 50 employees - they don´t have to comply with ObamaCare. But - those that do provide coverage are facing skyrocketing premiums because of it.

This article was thoughtful and did not demonize anyone. It made me nostalgic for a time when reporters simply reported.

These aren´t health care decisions., These are employment decisions based on an unknown expense. And it is the economic impact of the la that makes healthcare insurance both unaffordable and unavailable. Thanks to the all Democrat socialized medicine bill.

Mr Henderson is in the property management business, Obamacare has put him in the healthcare business, a business he does not want to be in. Reality is a hard teacher. America will be gone in less than a generation.

Employer based health care was a result of government regulation, in the form of wage and price controls. Companies lured good employees by means of benefits, such as health care, in lieu of wages, to get around wage controls.

Now the government is again regulating business via those very same health care plans, and once again, business will do a work-around. The left is unable to learn that top down government micromanagement of business and the markets results not in efficiencies but inefficiencies and unintended consequences. The end result is layer upon layer of patches and a regulatory thicket that no one can understand or comply with.

Grambo you are correct. But, if ObamaCare succeeds in crashing the system - there will be work arounds this time. There will only be govt health clinics.

President Obama´s health care law will push 7 million people out of their job-based insurance coverage — nearly twice the previous estimate, according to the latest estimates from the Congressional Budget Office released Tuesday. CBO said that this year´s tax cuts have changed the incentives for businesses and made it less attractive to pay for insurance, meaning fewer will decide to do so. Instead, they´ll choose to pay a penalty to the government, totaling $13 billion in higher fees over the next decade.

Incompetent People Really Have

There are many incompetent people in the world. Dr. David A. Dunning is haunted by the fear that he might be one of them. Dunning, a professor of psychology at Cornell, worries about this because, according to his research, most incompetent people do not know that they are incompetent. On the contrary. People who do things badly, Dunning has found in studies conducted with a graduate student, Justin Kruger, are usually supremely confident of their abilities -- more confident, in fact, than people who do things well. "I began to think that there were probably lots of things that I was bad at, and I didn't know it," Dunning said.

This week the House of Representatives made a positive move in reforming the US immigration process by passing the STEM Jobs Act sponsored by Lamar Smith (R-TX). This act does what our immigration policy should do: ensure a higher level of economic growth in the United States by encouraging the brightest and most talented students in the world to become permanent residents of the United States. It also reduces the wait for the families of the visa recipients to receive residency visas which is now at least two years.

President Obama´s biggest gaffe yesterday when speaking of California Attorney General Kamala Harris was not in flirtatiously complimenting her as "the best-looking attorney general," but in introducing an observation from the system of beauty into a forum that was about the system of power. What´s that, you say? Irin Carmon does a great job in Salon in laying out the bounds of propriety for when it´s appropriate to talk about a woman´s looks as a general matter. But I´ve long felt we lack a solid theoretical underpinning for easily discussing these issues, and why precisely it is that

Put out an all-points bulletin: Millions of Americans have gone missing from the workforce. Every month that those would-be workers are gone raises the odds that they might never come back, dimming the prospects for future economic growth. The vanishing trend is more than a decade old, but it accelerated during the Great Recession. Throughout 2012, economists held out hope that it had stopped. But then came Friday’s jobs report, and hopes were dashed. The Labor Department reported that the U.S. labor force — everyone who has a job or is looking for one — shrank
