I know exactly where Chuck D grew up. I grew up in the town right next to his (North Merrick). I know the area very well. I don´t recall Ronald Reagan or either George Bush ever being there, nevermind handing out guns and drugs.

However, I do recall that Roosevelt (where he´s from) was considered to be a dangerous place for law abiding folks to be well before Ronald Reagan was ever elected president, and definitely before (if Chuck D is to be believed) Reagan would sneak out of the White House, take the Metroliner to Penn Station, jump on an LIRR train to Freeport and stroll around at night handing out pistols and Crack cocaine like Santa Claus.

And the fact that thug (c)rap became most popular during the Clinton free love 90´s era had nothing to do with it either, huh???!!!

And oh yeah - did the guns and violence stop during Clinton´s terms? And then pick up where it left off after Reagan?

It started with Kennedy and Johnson. I grew up in Oakland Calif. in the 50´s and 60´s.

Just like #18 said, people who lived in a nice neighborhood, were forced to move because of the wave of lawlessness that took over. Retired people were attacked in their homes so often the Tribune wouldn´t even report it. If a crime was reported on they wouldn´t print the description of the prep.

This all was happening when the Black Panthers were giving out coloring books to the kiddies, showing the police as pigs, and attacking black people. They would call in a crime in progress somewhere in the Oakland hills, and then when the police helicopter would fly over, they would start shooting at the helicopter. Now my old neighborhood is called "the killing zone". Nothing new here.

This is character is actually on to something - but it is not what he thinks. For not too many years before Reagan and Bush, foul mouthed, obscene "artists" like him would have been arrested and charged with public indecency. And the producers and distributors of their trash would have met the same fate. It was simply unthinkable to permit such toxic, antisocial garbage free access to the public space and the minds of children.

But thanks to the Left´s fearless defense of free speech -unfortunately restricted to pornography, bad language, public obscenity, burning American flags and mocking Christianity- the longstanding legal barriers against the values and language of the Chuck D.´s of the nation were abolished. The rest is history.

Guys like Chuck D. are dim bulbs who cleaned up by poisoning and degrading the culture, especially that of the most vulnerable, at-risk children and neighborhoods. They are not the only ones to cash in on this depravity. A self-respecting society would never have allowed them to get away with what they have done. But now, adding insult to injury, Chuck D. -a real piece of work, someone for America and the human race to be proud of- blames Republicans for the consequences of his dirty, nasty, antisocial work.
