| Byron Dorgan was a “praire populist,” his Senate colleague Tom Harkin told us open Dorgan’s retirement. Liberal writer David Sirota gave Dorgan the same label. Dorgan’s wife Kimberly is a longtime lobbyist, currently running the lobby operation for the American Council of Life Insurers — which lobbies to protect the populist death tax that pads the profits of life insurance companies. Everything oily Mr. Harkin says should be taken with a grain or even large lump of salt. That man can´t get before a camera without wearing a patronizing smirk that would insult even intellectually impaired folks.
Dorgan´s a garden variety Democrat politician - crooked at the core and beholden to his party leaders. At least ND has Sen. Hoeven now.

They think they are special - but any citizen could do that job for one term, do it better and then go home to their real job. What have we wrought with full time politicians? Everyone that has full time pols is in financial trouble. And we pick up the bill forever.

That retirement check pays for a lot of luxury, especially when two people have huge salaries coming in from their lobbying gig. Nice work if you can get it, but undeserved since this man was one of the people that has lead us to ultimate bankfuptcy. Alas! The Democrats say they care about the little guy, this says otherwise.

Oh good grief....I expected to see a massive Waterford chandelier such as the one that hangs in the home (in the Evermay section of McLean, VA) that was used by visiting royalty of what used to be called Persia before the nutcases took over and named the country Iran. According to the pictures I saw in the article, this is a home that has been around for years, had some new paint, carpet and furniture added to spruce up things for the owners. Just think of the people who earned some money by doing the work. As long as the Dorgan´s used their own money, I hope they enjoy their home.

I can attest to the fact that McLean, VA (in Fairfax County) is one of the most affluent communities in Northern Virginia (Loudoun County, where I live, was determined by Forbes Magazine in 2012 to be the richest county in the nation). The Dorgans´ home is located in what is probably the most exclusive area of McLean, near CIA Headquarters. This area is also home to many other current and former high-level government officials.
According to trulia.com, the house was built 1993, when the Dorgans paid $590,000 for it. Now, according to Trulia, "The average list price for similar homes for sale is $1,889,844 and the average sales price for similar recently sold homes is $844,430. [The Dorgans´ home] is in the 22101 ZIP code in McLean, VA. The average list price for ZIP code 22101 is $3,679,248."

Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell´s campaign has contacted the FBI after a recording of a private strategy meeting was published Tuesday in a liberal publication, claiming the campaign was the victim of "Watergate-style tactics" to bug the office. Several snippets of the audio from the February strategy sessions were published Tuesday by Mother Jones magazine, along with a lengthy article. The recording, obtained from an unnamed source, included McConnell aides discussing ways to politically damage actress Ashley Judd, who at the time was talked about as a possible McConnell challenger.
