Republicans & Immigration
National Review Online, by Victor Davis Hanson

Republicans are terribly confused over illegal immigration. They still can’t quite figure out its role in the last election. Did the issue lose them the Latino vote? Maybe — but why did they also forfeit the Asian vote, and by nearly the same margin? Why did the caricature of Republicans as old white nativists resonate with Asians as well? If support for closing the border and refusing amnesty lost Republicans the election, why do a majority of Americans continue to poll in opposition to any sort of collective amnesty? And why, in some polls,

I cannot be optimistic about this anymore. The dems have used race and an army of foreign mercenaries to accomplish a coup d´etat leading toward a one-party, Soviet-style, top-down dictatorship by a man who is closer to Mugabe than to Toussaint L´ouverture.

Thanks to a new invention, we’re finally learning how to diagnose and treat the lingering affects of explosive events that have led to a mass of traumatic brain injuries in veterans. In 2011, Scott Featherman was in Kandahar, Afghanistan as a scout platoon leader with the 2nd Brigade Combat Team of the 101st Airborne Division. He patrolled on foot, and Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) filled the donkey paths that crisscrossed the wadis and hills.“I was hit several times when I was over,” he says, “and you have no clue if you’re hurt. Clinton nostalgists look back on the occasionally picayune controversies of that time — State of the Union endorsements of school uniforms — and conclude that such trivia were a sign of national health, of things being so good that we had nothing more important to debate. Subsequent events ranging from 9/11 to the mortgage meltdown suggest that there was rather more impressing business to be taken care of in the 1990s, but our political leaders were too short-sighted to appreciate it. Similarly, the fact that the Supreme Court is being asked to review the manner in which Hobby Lobby manages

The woman who admitted to voting for President Barack Obama six times worked for and sat on the board of a group that received an Obama administration Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) grant. Melowese Richardson admitted in 2013 to voting six times for Obama’s re-election while working as a poll worker in Hamilton County, Ohio. Initially convicted on state voter fraud charges and sentenced to five years in prison, Richardson served eight months before the George Soros-funded Ohio Justice and Policy Center helped lessen her sentence to probation. Richardson appeared last week at a rally with some Ohio Democrats and Al Sharpton,

Earlier this month, word broke that the Black Student Union at the University of Michigan is demanding that racial and ethnic studies required as part of the core curriculum for the College of Literature, Science and Arts be also required at the university’s other component colleges, such as the College of Engineering. The student government president supported the new requirement, according to a Daily Caller report: It would be helpful for economics students to study “poverty, inequality and labor through the scope of race,” he [Sagar Lathia] suggested. Watching the Left and various race-baiting Progressives going after Congressman Paul Ryan (R-WI) reminds me of Tom Wolfe’s use, back in the 1970s, of the phrase “mau-mauing,” or intimidation, by the politically correct, directed at anyone who does not conform to their notions of reality. The process does not engage on the level of argument, but simply involves the impugning of the victim’s motives or character. It routinely results in a kind of liberal fatwah being issued against the offending party, denouncing his or her deviation from conventional pieties. The offense in question involves statements Paul Ryan, the current House Budget

Did somebody doctor photo of men who

Fears of a cover-up over the fate of flight MH370 grew yesterday after claims that a photo of two passengers was tampered with. Images of two men who boarded the Malaysian Airlines jet with stolen passports appear to show them having the same set of legs. CCTV footage stills released by officials three days after the Boeing 777-200 vanished from the skies shows the pair with identical green trousers and brown shoes. Their feet and shadows are also in the same position, while their faces, T-shirts and bags are different. The photo last night fuelled conspiracy theories over the fate of the aircraft, which

It was just a few weeks ago that Russian defense minister Sergei Shoigu announced, according to The Guardian, that his country “planned to increase its military projection abroad, including in Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua.” The next day, Russia´s Viktor Leonov docked in Havana. The Guardian described the Leonov as having been “commissioned by the Soviet Union in 1988 near the end of the cold war. It is outfitted with electronic surveillance equipment and missile defense systems and is a signals-intelligence asset of the Russian navy, according to the Russian government.” Not long before Vladimir Putin dispatched the Viktor Leonov to Cuba,

Early Monday, the White House confirmed a Washington Post report that the U.S. was sending "associated support personnel," and a "limited number" of CV-22 Osprey aircraft to assist local forces in their long-running battle against Kony´s Lord´s Resistance Army, or LRA. Obama sent about 100 U.S. troops to help the African forces in 2011. The administration did not specify how many troops and aircraft would be sent to Africa, but the Post reported that the president had ordered four Osprey

A rash of eight financial-industry suicides so far in 2014 has mental-health professionals trying to understand what’s behind it. In late winter many people suffer from depression, but for bankers this is usually offset by finding out how large their bonuses will be. However, compensation across the entire financial sector is down from years past as large firms deal with new rules pinching their bottom lines. The other, more pressing matter for mental health pros is: Why are such a large proportion of these self- murders public affairs? While there are no definitive theories on suicide location, many in the suicide- prevention field believe

WASHINGTON — Mitt Romney said Sunday that President Barack Obama is naive when it comes to Russia, has shown "faulty judgment" about Moscow´s intentions and could have done more to try to deter its annexation of Crimea. The 2012 Republican presidential nominee said Obama didn´t have the foresight to anticipate Russia´s moves and should have been working earlier with allies to make clear the penalties that Russia would face if it moved into Ukraine. Romney did acknowledge that such steps may not have been enough though to hold back Russia President Vladimir Putin. "Had we communicated those things, there´s always

A few weeks ago, I wrote about how the sweeping acceptance of gay marriage in recent years is owed in large part to Christianity. Rejecting the rigidly hierarchical and stratified societies of the ancient world, Jesus Christ taught the equal dignity of all persons, proclaimed that the meek shall inherit the earth, and declared that the last shall be first and the first shall be last. The Western world has been working out the logic of these subversive teachings ever since, with the institutional transformation of marriage being the latest, though surely not the last, example of its social, moral,

In a constituent meeting gone awry that was captured on shaky, amateur video, embattled Rep. You don´t have any damn facts!” Ellmers exploded at one of the activists when he said that employers – who often claim a labor shortage to argue for amnesty – frequently don´t post job openings in that region.
