Journalism That Dare
Not Speak Its Name

Wall Street Journal, by James Taranto

Original Article

Posted By:nota bene, 2/25/2013 5:11:06 PM

If you´re a reporter at the Washington Post and you aspire to write unsigned editorials, just send an email to the ombudsman. That´s a lesson one might draw from yesterday´s extraordinary column by Patrick Pexton, the veteran journalist who, according to the Post´s website, "represents readers who have concerns or complaints" about "accuracy, fairness, ethics and the newsgathering process." One such reader wrote to both Pexton and a Post reporter to complain that the paper´s coverage of same-sex marriage gives "short shrift" to "the conservative, pro-family side of the argument."

Same-Sex Marriage, obviously a chapter in Psycopathic Sexualis, that book of Deviant Phenomena from the case studies of Richard von Kraft-Ebing.

accuracy, fairness, ethics and the newsgathering process. 4 things that the LSM seems to be completely oblivious to. They don´t even seem to know what the definition of journalism is. One can advocate for "justice and fairness," or one can attempt to report the news and issues objectively, giving all sides a voice in the debate. The opinions of Christian Americans deserve to be heard, but are increasingly being compared to racists.

FTA The lesbian couple down the street raising two kids or the two men across the hall in your condominium--how do those unions take anything away from the sanctity, fidelity or joy you take in your heterosexual marriage?

It is NOT the micro, it is the macro!

No "outsider" can affect an individual relationship without the permission of at least one of the participants, but the children of that union go to a school where they are told that the "alternative" is as valid, and more authentic to their core being, than just blindly following the same path as their parents without truly investigating alternatives such as premarital sex and homosexual relationships.

But each time someone flaunts convention, it subverts, cheapens and coarsens the whole culture. It doesn´t matter if that "flaunting" comes in the form of "alternative" sexual practices, drug & alcohol abuse, gang violence, unwed mothers abandoned by the fathers, unemployment/laziness/welfare abuse...all of these, while done by "individuals," affect everyone and make life harder for people not actually involved in the actions themselves.

All of society suffers a lesser life when segments of the larger community--the vast majority--the ones who live their lives by the "rules" that have worked for centuries--are silenced in the name of "social justice" or "fairness" or "diversity." Not only silenced but discriminated against for their beliefs.

KIEV/BALACLAVA, Ukraine - Ukraine mobilized on Sunday for war and called up its reserves, after Russian President Vladimir Putin threatened to invade in the biggest confrontation between Moscow and the West since the Cold War. Ukraine´s security council ordered the general staff to immediately put all armed forces on highest alert, the council´s secretary Andriy Parubiy announced. The Defense Ministry was ordered to conduct the call-up, potentially of all men up to 40 in a country that still has universal male conscription.

Obamacare Birth Control Coverage

A provision of President Barack Obama’s health-care reforms requiring group insurance plans to cover contraceptives violates the constitutional right to religious freedom, a federal appeals court in Washington said. A three-judge panel ruled yesterday in a lawsuit filed by two brothers who are Catholic and, on religious grounds, excluded coverage for contraceptives from the health plans of their produce-distribution companies in violation of the Patient Proctection and Affordable Care Act. “We must determine whether the contraceptive mandate imposed by the act trammels the right of free exercise -— a right that lies at the core of our constitutional liberties -—

Illinois´ old law banning the concealed carry of firearms took another hit Thursday. A federal court already found it unconstitutional last year. Now the Illinois Supreme Court has taken the same position. Alberto Aguilar was 17 when Chicago police arrested him for having a loaded handgun with the serial number scratched off. He was convicted of unlawfully possessing a firearm and sentenced to 24 months probation. While his appeal was pending before the Illinois Supreme Court, a federal court in Chicago struck down Illinois´ ban on public gun possession, finding it violated the U.S. Constitution. The Illinois legislature also legalized concealed

According to Senator Chuck Grassley, the IRS’s tax-exempt division director Lois Lerner refused to resign after she was asked to do so by the agency’s acting commissioner: “My understanding is the new acting IRS commissioner asked for Ms. Lerner’s resignation, and she refused to resign. She was then put on administrative leave instead. From all accounts so far, the IRS acting commissioner was on solid ground to ask for her resignation... The IRS owes it to taxpayers to resolve her situation quickly.

Sharyl Attkisson in talks to leave CBS

Sharyl Attkisson, the Emmy award-winning investigative reporter, is in talks to leave CBS News ahead of contract, POLITICO has learned. Sources familiar with the situation cite disputes between Attkisson and network executives, including CBS Evening News executive producer Patricia Shevlin, as the cause for the talks, though the specific issues could not be confirmed. "I am under contract at CBS and I have not quit," Attkisson told POLITICO in a written statement. She declined to comment further. CBS News declined to comment; a request to speak with Shevlin was redirected to the press office.

It’s a cliché, of course, but it really is true: in Washington, every scandal has a crime and a coverup. The ongoing debate about the attack on the United States facility in Benghazi where four Americans were killed, and the Obama Administration’s response to it, is no exception. For a long time, it seemed like the idea of a coverup was just a Republican obsession. But now there is something to it. On Friday, ABC News’s Jonathan Karl revealed the details of the editing process

There has been a lot written about a Politico piece that ran Wednesday in the wake of a Washington Post profile of CBS News investigative reporter Sharyl Attkisson. The Post profile was mostly positive, painting the picture of an intrepid reporter willing to take on the story of a terrorist attack in Libya in the face of enormous pushback from the Obama White House. The Politico piece, however, was nothing more than unsubstantiated gossip meant only to tarnish Attkisson.

As House Republicans piece together the events in Benghazi, Libya on Sept. 11, 2012, that led to the death of four Americans, the focus has fallen on the talking points the Obama administration used to describe the attack in the days following. [Snip] While the White House says the changes were merely stylistic, the changes suggest administration officials were interested in sparing the State Department from political criticism in the wake of the attack. CBS News has learned there was a flurry of approximately 100 interagency government emails on Sept. 14 and Sept. 15

How did the 2013 Kentucky Derby
horses get their names?
Lexington Herald-Leader [KY], by Linda B. Blackford    Original Article
Posted By: nota bene- 5/4/2013 9:15:02 AM     Post Reply
There´s a distinctly militaristic theme to this year´s Kentucky Derby field, with names like Revolutionary, Lines of Battle, Java´s War, Normandy Invasion, even Will Take Charge. Possibly coincidence, possibly due to the fact that these colts were named two to three years ago, when the U.S. was still embroiled in overseas conflicts. "Current events do affect the names of horses," said Shannon Luce, spokeswoman for the Jockey Club, which registers all Thoroughbreds and monitors the rules for naming them. After the 2000 presidential election, for example, there were several horses with the word "chad" in their names, including Hanging Chads.

Charleston, S.C. — A lawyer say ex-South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford trespassed at his ex-wife’s home and he has been ordered to appear in court two days after his special congressional election. Documents acquired by The Associated Press Tuesday say Jenny Sanford confronted her ex-husband leaving her South Carolina home on Feb. 3. Her attorney filed a complaint the next day and she confirms the documents are authentic. In them, she says he was using his cellphone as a flashlight as he left. The couple’s divorce settlement says neither may enter the other’s home without permission.

VATICAN CITY - Pope Francis has reaffirmed the Vatican´s criticism of a body that represents U.S. nuns which the Church said was tainted by "radical" feminism, dashing hopes he might take a softer stand with the sisters. Francis´s predecessor, Benedict, decreed that the Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR), a group that represents more than 80 percent of the 57,000 Catholic nuns in the United States, must change its ways, a ruling which the Vatican said on Monday still applied. Last year, a Vatican report said the LCWR had "serious doctrinal problems" and promoted

Many of the Republican Party’s most powerful insiders and financiers have begun a behind-the-scenes campaign to draft former Florida governor Jeb Bush into the 2016 presidential race, courting him and his intimates and starting talks on fundraising strategy. Concerned that the George Washington Bridge traffic scandal has damaged New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s political standing and alarmed by the steady rise of Sen. Rand Paul (Ky.), prominent donors, conservative leaders and longtime operatives say they consider Bush the GOP’s brightest hope to win back the White House.

If Betsey McCaughey is correct (and I bet she is, because she has not only read the entire ObamaCare bill, she has written a book about it), Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan publicly humiliated herself during the oral arguments on the Hobby Lobby case, revealing that she either did not read the law, or failed to comprehend it if she did so. Writing in the New York Sun, McCaughey lays out what is wrong with the Justice’s declaration about Obamacare: she asserted that the statute itself mandates provision of birth control. Not one word in the Affordable Care Act guarantees health plans will cover birth control products.

I have no objections to Jeb Bush running for president. He obviously has a wide appeal as a potential candidate. (Snip) His support of Common Core, however, will also find many who are in the conservative ranks objecting, since they fear that Common Core represents educational centralism and having the government ram federal standards down their throats. What I do object to is that Bush is already being heralded as the obvious candidate, the man to whom the big money must and will flow. President Bill Clinton´s guilty conscience over his affair with Monica Lewinsky – and a desire to repair his shattered reputation by using the State of the Union address – set his speechwriters an unenviable task, newly released archive papers reveal. The former president appeared to be trying to butter up his wife, Hillary Clinton, out of guilt – or perhaps to fool her – before the scandal broke. And he was determined to try to convince the American public afterwards that he was still of a high moral character.
