Conservative movie lovers didn´t suffer any serious Red State taunts during the just-wrapped Academy Awards telecast. Michael Moore wasn´t on hand to bash the GOP, and show host Seth MacFarlane trained his immature wit on George Clooney, breast-baring actresses and the show´s ridiculous length. And then it came time to announce the Best Picture winner, and Jack Nicholson stepped on stage to do the honors. Only Nicholson, and the show´s organizers, had something else in mind. Enter Michelle Obama. (snip) It was an unprecedented cultural power grab by the Obamas, almost daring conservative viewers to adore her as much as progressives
Comments: The arrogance and in-your-face attitude of this W.H. makes me more and more impatient for the "fall" that cometh (after the pride).
ahhh....don´t worry, most conservatives stopped watching the Oscars years ago. That´s because most conservatives stopped going to the movies years ago, because Hollywood stopped making descent movies. So we don´t care who wins Oscars. So Mooshell was only playing to the choir.
...you could tell in the first 4 minutes that the show was a turkey waiting to be forked. I enjoyed every opportunity to see Speilberg miss out. I´ll lay odds that getting the first lady up there was with the hope that "Lincoln" would be the big winner...
...now she can be a footnote in forgotten memories...
Is there no limit to the ego of these grifters? I guess we´re only a few steps from having a ´dear leader´ that hits 32 under par in his first golf game , writes plays and symphonies and cures diseases during lunch breaks. These phonies insert themselves in everything. Please God, put them out of OUR misery!
I think above poster is right: the White House hoped that the Lincoln movie would win and they could associate Obama with Lincoln. But Hollywood types are even more narcissistic than the one in the White House, so Hollywood won the Oscar, not The White House.
I confess I like to see the dresses. Turned the tv off the second I saw the mooch. No clue what film won, though it´s highly likely it was a movie I had not seen anyway. Just go away Michelle. I´m sick to death of you and your breathless media sycophants who think the world cares how you cut your hair (wigs?) or what you wear (and who pays for those custom gowns?).
The Obama´s are such narcissistic media hogs. The brides at every wedding and the corpses at every funeral is aptly descriptive. They love to "steal the show," while most likely wish they would go away.
They ARE like the Ceausescu´s, living high at the people´s expense. I am utterly and completely sick of them. It´s going to be a long four years.
How fitting. Our Kardashian President and his linebacker wife, with no accomplishments or expeirnce in the motion picture industry, steal the limelight from those who have worked a lifetime in motion pictures. How fitting that the hypocritical Leftist Hollywood 1%´ers applaud this empty suit poseur. After all, their whole life is as fake as their movies.
Instead of the Oscars, which we never watch, we got caught up with the first three episodes of The Americans on Fx (which we watched on TWC´s ´on demand.´) It´s about a couple of married Russian spies living as Americans in the US in 1981.
It´s like the "body-snatchers", they are everywhere, there is no place that you can go that they aren´t there. On Rachel Ray to Schooby-doo, she is all over t.v. I am really, really tired of this media imposed "darling" of fashion, taste, hair stylist, Hollywood, gardener of back yard gardens, healthy food advisor, childhood advisor, etc. Please, we need a break!!
No one saw this coming? I´m surprised. I told my friends and husband that I would bet a ventricle that the Obamas would make a "surprise" appearance at the Oscars.
Not that it mattered, being so predictable and all, because none of us watched the program anyway and couldn´t care less who won anything. We long ago abandoned H´wood for the Indies and foreign films.
Hollywood and the Obamas have taken themselves so far out of the cultural mainstream that they have become utterly predictable and thus boring.
i literally cursed at my tv when that thing came on.......get the hell out of our lives....stay in the WH and run the country........wait they are both too incompetent but really good at playing IMPORTANT..............
There is no such thing as a surprise appearance in Hollyweird. This was planned from the get go. They had to roll out the Sasquatch to make themselves feel good about all of their lying. Joe McCarthy was right in the 50´s and he is right today. America has been over ran by Communist. Next we will see huge murals of these Criminals go up in major Cities all over the Nation.
It´s quite obvious, our classless, clueless current "First Lady," who bears a striking resemblance to the late James Brown, never had any of Emily Post´s etiquette writings on her Princeton University reading lists.
Next month, zippy will fill out his ncaa brackets on espn and the sports media whores will fawn and gush over him. Last year, zip made a grandstand appearance at a tournament game, and the cbs boot lickers interviewed him at half time so obama could provide anaylysis of the game. So far obama hasn´t violated the Masters tournament. Perhaps this year he can call the winner during the green jacket ceremony, especially if his good friend tiger wins.
How much did that little stunt cost the taxpayers? The plane and the Secret Service plus gown and all the little perks that go along with it. Too bad the press lost their way a long time ago with the dems. Now if this were a Republican President, we wouldn´t hear the end of it. With Libya there, unemployment up again, food prices on the rise then there´s gas. Strange people.

My dear late mother was an unrepetent liberal and loved all these losers from BJ to Gork to J´Effin to of course the ´first black´ (uh, half-black, I always told her). To hear her speak about blacks in America, was as though she thought of them as either all children, or pets. They were to be cared for, always loved unconditionally, no matter what, and if they messed on the floor, we had to ´understand´ what ´they´ had been through. I grew up in Kansas, land of John Brown and the abolitionists, so it´s not like our very own ancestors owned slaves.
But this spectacle of Mitch showing up at the Oscars reminds me of those things my mom used to say about the Obamas - she talked as if they were her own children. Or her pets.
Hollywood now his its own pets. Trot her out there, and watch her do tricks.... yay Michelle! Good girl!!
Having spent the entire weekend on my feet at a horse expo, I was long asleep before the "aren´t we all just too wonderful" event took place.
I lived in Romania under the Ceaucescues for three years so I have to agree with #18 and #19. What I´m hoping for is the 0bamas to have their very own "Ceaucescu balcony moment".
If you aren´t familiar with it, look it up on Youtube. It´s the moment when Nicolae and Elena realized that they had lost their grip on the country. A few hours later they ran for their lives. The rest is history.
CAN WE NEVER GET AWAY FROM THE OBAMAS??????? He "won" by 53% to 51%, despite a solid three years of frenzied campaigning and perks to voters, and there is half a "thinking" country that does NOT love the first couple. And they are EVERYWHERE! (I was also not thrilled to see Jane Fonda trotted out, or Barbra Streisand celebrated, not least by herself, but what can you do?) Someone should tell the Oscar folks and the Jimmy Fallon´s and all the rest that a good number of us are NOT entranced to see Michelle turn up everywhere, to give her imprimatur. Judging by that poor Dr. still in a Pakistani prison and the treatment in Benghazi, the Obamas are NOT heroes re: Bin Laden and his demise---it was Bush, and Seal Team 6.
I didn´t watch the show. I don´t care who wore what, how many Republicans were bashed (glad they weren´t, though) or who schmoozed whom last night. I´m not surprised that an Obama made an appearance, because Hollyweird forked over lots of cash for Obama´s campaign, and the celebs want their money´s worth. Feh.
Didn´t watch the Oscars - as usual - but have heard about Mrs. Obama´s appearance. Can´t this country do ´anything´ without her being there? These two (FLOTUS and POTUS) must be at the forefront of every big event or happening, as if - by their presence - they make it ever so much more important. They love to be seen, adored and worshipped. So sickening!
Based on the reports on the radio this morning -- babawa strident screeeeched her song, mrs. bamster looked awful, the recipents were "selected" based on million dollar PR expenditures and in the end it was all PHONEY..
Yes, it was. The Oscars event seems to be getting worse and worse. I thought Seth MacFarlane was a mediocre host at best, absolutely no class. His "jokes" were stupid, and his flying nun act was just tasteless. I watched until Shirley Bassey sang, and then only intermittently until the very end, when Best Picture was announced. I´m just glad that neither "Lincoln" nor "Beasts of the Southern Wild", apparently Michelle 0bama´s favorite, did not win.
Adele´s performance of "Skyfall", a "nod to the main James Bond theme" was fantastic. She´s a serious singer, no mere pop star, and she can belt out a song almost as well as Bassey. Indeed, the LA Times headline today reads, "Oscars 2013: Adele, Shirley Bassey save the Oscars".
We went to an Oscar party. This was one of the best Oscar programs we´ve seen in quite a while. Until up popped Mooch. She is such an intruder. Has to be everywhere. She looked awful with massive bangs hanging down in her eyes (though some believe they should be ten inches longer) and was in one of those sloppy talking points drones that she and the mister do, ending with "no matter who (sic) you love".
It was MO´s audition for an acting gig. Her high status outweighs any requirement for actual experience. (other than her being married to a fake US citizen.) So, Hollywood, give her an acting gig and the stimulus moeny will flow......to you and your causes.
I followed the Oscars on AOL and listened/read James Lipton hosting/live blogging. He did not mention her at all. He said that Jack Nicholson was very well behaved and there was absolutely no mention of her appearance at all. So I am kind of surprised to find out she pulled a stunt like this. Shouldn´t be though. She should have been home watching like the rest of us.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the FLOTUS appearance was the work of Obama supporter and friend Harvey Weinstein and his daughter Lilly, who arranged for Academy representatives and show producers to secretly fly (via Disney´s jet) to D.C. just two weeks ago to make the magic happen.
Pooch and Mooch and the Cult of Personality, very creeeeepy. Do they truly have no idea that millions do not adore them, and do not think this is charming? Most likely another one of ValJar´s failed propaganda ideas.
The overblown self-importance of these two narcissists is sickening. There is absolutely no venue that is spared from the two of them inserting themselves. They are the masters of propaganda. I think their appearances all the time are way more insidious than they want it to appear. They really think they are the rulers of this country. It´s beyond anything I have ever seen before and it can´t end soon enough.

Yo Yo, 2/25/2013 9:40:01 AM (No. 9194743)
I´ve given up swearing for Lent, but Mrs Yo filled in brilliantly last night. We hadn´t watched the Oscars in years, but decided to turn in to see the 50th anniversary Bond tributes. The show wasn´t bad and my interest was piqued on a few of the movies. Then Michelle comes on and ruined the whole night.
Doesn´t Hollywood know that 49% aren´t very happy these two grifters are in the WH? Is business so good they can alienate that large a sector of the market?
In an effort to make the Oscar award statue more 21st century and hip, next year they will unveil the new Oscar statue which will be in the likeness of Moochie herself boob belt dress, wig, Aunt Esther puss and all. /s/
Have you ever been to one of the cheeseball Indian casinos we have out here in SoCal? They feature a gimmick in which a person steps into a phone booth-looking contraption filled with dollar bills swirling around by way of compressed air or fans, and they keep whatever money they can catch within a certain time limit.
stinky and the sasquatch are that person. They´re furiously and shamelessly grabbing everything they can that is being blown to them by fans.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences is a private organization. In order to be considered a member (see their web site) a person must have made a serious contribution to the motion picture industry. That´s the only way one can become a member.
During the Oscar ceremony, the big awards have always been presented by motion picture personalities who are members of the academy and who have previously been awarded an Oscar.
This year three films nominated for best picture, Argo, Lincoln, and Zero Dark Thirty were highly political in nature. Argo and Lincoln were highly touted by liberal Democrats, and recently both Jimmy Carter and John Kerry came out to pump up Argo´s chances. The liberal Democrats also attempted to jump on the Lincoln bandwagon even though Lincoln was a Republican and it was the majority of Republicans who in historical terms were against slavery, while the Democrats of that era generally supported slavery. In the case of Zero Dark Thirty, it´s accepted that it´s chances were seriously lowered, and even blackballed, because of the water-boarding issue, that liberals as most academy members are consider to be torture.
The liberals running the academy must have been pretty sure, and may even have known for sure, that either Argo or Lincoln was going to win the Oscar, because you can bet that the Obamas would not have been around to essentially congratulate the film Zero Dark Thirty, with it´s water-boarding connotations, if it had won.
Bottom line Mrs. Obama´s appearance was highly political and sure to turn off half the country. Beyond that, Mrs. Obama in keeping with the academy´s traditions and rules, especially not being a past Oscar winning academy member, was not qualified to present the Oscar for best picture.

Liked just about everything in the show except Barbara Streisand, Jane Fonda, and FLOTUS. Streisand cannot sing anymore, she was off key a couple of times and she doesn´t have the breath control she used to have. Fonda is a has-been actress and a traitor to the U.S. She looked like a giant bumble bee trying desperately to look regal. Michelle cast a big stink over the whole program. Phtttttt!
I am a Seth McFarlane fan, tasteless jokes and all, and I thought he was quite good. On FLOTUS, why should anyone care if Michelle Obama presented an award? It makes conservatives seem so petty to gripe about such a nothing-burger. Was anyone still awake for the last award? (I was not.)
Modern Army dress blues are reminiscent of the Union uniforms of the Civil War era. That Michelle was surrounded by them as she opened the envelope leaves little doubt that the dramatically staged moment was in expectation of a different Best Picture.
As soon as she appeared, I switched channels We now have two Evitas; the mooche and billary....frightening, truly frightening. And, otherwise good reporter, Christian Toto made things worse calling those damn commies "progressives". Remember both "liberal" and "progressive" are cover- up words for the socialists who want to take over the world. Calling them by those otherwise nice sounding names can only advance the cancerous growth of communism, totalitarianism, socialism, whatever word you are not afraid to call it. And it´s true, Christian, Ann Coulter, so many of the good guys are simply afraid to call these destructive people what they really are (and they go on insanely calling them liberals, etc) It´s self destructive madness.
A sharp public backlash against the political logjam in Washington has pushed Republicans to moderate their hardline stance on the budget, raising hopes of a deal with the White House ahead next week’s deadline to approve new government borrowings. Senior Republicans were galvanised by an NBC/Wall St Journal poll showing the lowest ratings for the party since the survey started in 1989, prompting them to submit plans to jumpstart talks with Barack Obama and the Democrats. A Chicago restaurant has cooked up a controversial burger of the month for October, garnishing it with an unconsecrated communion wafer and a red wine reduction sauce. Kuma´s Corner, a foodie destination with just a few tables, names its hamburgers after heavy metal bands. For October, the restaurant chose to name the burger after the Swedish band Ghost. Members of the band dress in religious robes and wear skeleton face makeup. It´s in poor taste, said Jeff Young of New Orleans who runs the blog Catholic Foodie. A year ago, the post–Labor Day period was marked with rising prices at the pump thanks to a brutal hurricane season, among other factors. This year things are different, with prices remaining subdued even when concerns about strife in the Middle East dominate the news. (Snip) In fact, something unusual is happening that could cause gas prices to drop at a faster pace than normal for October and beyond. Among the many expected effects of the federal-government shutdown that began on Tuesday are a general slowdown in the economy and diminished demand for oil and gas. The price of oil
Q. I want to see if you can clear up a little confusion about your position on something. You’ve said you’re not going to negotiate the destruction of your healthcare plan, you’re not going to negotiate on the debt limit. Exactly what are you prepared to negotiate on,and when? A. I’m prepared to negotiate on anything. (snip) During the course of my presidency, I have bent over backwards to work with the Republican party. And have purposely kept my rhetoric down. I think I’m pretty well known for being a calm guy. Sometimes people think I’m too calm. And am I
If only we could find a couch big enough to fit the entire human species, we could talk through what within our minds is preventing us from acting more aggressively on global warming. Buried within fights over the science, economy, environment, extreme weather, politics, and lobbying is a debate about how psychological traits ingrained in the basic human condition are preventing people from supporting more action on global warming, despite the fact that most scientists agree it’s only going to get worse unless humankind makes a concerted effort to take major action soon. Indeed, a United Nations report released Friday confirms
They spent Sunday checking their bank balances. They talked with loved ones about which bills could be paid late. And they wondered whether working for the government was still a stable job. For federal workers across the country, it was an anxiety-ridden weekend as the government came closer to a partial shutdown at midnight Monday. The threat of an extended loss of pay is hitting a workforce already battered by a three-year wage freeze, months of furloughs forced by the budget cuts known as sequestration and a dimmed perception of government work among many Americans.
After a week or so of political whiplash, the country heard directly from President Obama as he tried to explain his policy. The speech was exceptionally revealing in the logical disconnect that plagues his policy: Chemical weapons use is beyond the pale and different than any weapon. We cannot let it go on. We have a national interest in acting. But I would ask Congress to hold off on voting for me to do anything. We’ll consider a deal to have Assad turn over his weapons. But remain in power. Several other disturbing inconsistencies were noteworthy. First, he talked about
Colorado Springs — Two Colorado Democrats who provided crucial support for a slate of tough new gun-control laws were voted out of office on Tuesday in a recall vote widely seen as a test of popular support for gun restrictions after mass shootings in a Colorado movie theater and a Connecticut elementary school. Well, well, well! Just look at who has been charged with money laundering, mail fraud, conspiracy, obstruction of justice, and other crimes involving Federal and Illinois grant money for health charities, job training and other programs. Earlier today Major Hasan was sentenced to death for the murder of 14 men, women and an unborn baby at Fort Hood. (snip) Obama expressed precisely this view of the constitutional war power when asked about the matter by the Boston Globe in an interview that was published on Dec.
Obamacare is imploding. But thanks to the government shutdown, everyone is talking about the implosion of the GOP instead. The shutdown drama has distracted from the fact that Obamacare’s debut is worse than many realize — and it threatens the fundamental viability of the law itself. The administration claims the Obamacare online exchanges crashed because the Web site got more than 8 million hits in the first week. Please. You know how many people visit Amazon.com every week? More than 70 million. The difference is: 1.) Amazon seldom crashes, and 2.) on Amazon, people actually buy something.
Every week during halftime of Sunday Night Football, Bob Costas gets to recite a personal essay about whatever hot topic strikes his fancy. This Sunday he chose the Redskins name, and spent a few minutes offering his commentary on the subject. Here is his statement in full. With Washington playing Dallas here tonight, it seems like an appropriate time to acknowledge the ongoing controversy about the name, “Redskins.” Let’s start here: there’s no reason to believe that owner Daniel Snyder, or any official or player from his team, harbors animus towards Native Americans, or chooses to disrespect them. When I have described the well-considered, coherent political and economic strategies of the conservative white South, as I have done here, here and here, I am sometimes been accused of being a “conspiracy theorist.” But one need not believe that white-hooded Dragons and Wizards are secretly coordinating the actions of Southern conservative politicians from a bunker underneath Stone Mountain in Georgia to believe that a number of contemporary policies — from race-to-the-bottom economic policies to voter disfranchisement and attempts to decentralize or privatize federal social insurance entitlements — serve the interests of those who promote them, who tend to be
Ted Cruz’s “aw shucks” act is wearing thin. The Republican senator from Texas likes to pretend he is above the fray of Washington bickering, focused on large issues and too big to engage character assassination. But the reality is that Cruz is the Republican king of nasty attacks. He explodes rhetorical nuclear bombs on his opponents, only to feign outrage when his victims respond in kind, or in many cases, with relative spitballs. Take his defund Obamacare effort. The tactic to eliminate President Obama’s health care law had zero prospect of success, which Cruz undoubtedly knew despite what he sold the conservative
As the government shutdown enters a third week, a group of veterans and tea party groups protested their anger by storming the World War II memorial in Washington, DC. “I sit here all day trying to persuade people to do the things they ought to have sense enough to do without my persuading them,” Harry Truman once lamented. “That’s all the powers of the President amount to.” As usual, the plain-speaking Truman got it right: presidential power is the power to persuade. Too bad the current occupant of the White House has never learned this basic lesson. Barack Obama’s refusal to negotiate with the Republicans in Congress on the government shutdown is proof once again that he doesn’t understand
