Robert Gibbs: As press secretary,
I was ordered not to acknowledge

Washington Examiner [DC], by Charlie Spiering

During a discussion about President Obama’s lack of transparency about the drone program, former White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs explained on MSNBC this morning that he was ordered to never acknowledge the existence of the drone program. “One of the first things they told me was, you are not even to acknowledge the drone program, you are not even to discuss that it exists,” Gibbs said frankly, explaining why he could never be forthcoming about the issue with White House reporters. Gibbs added that in his opinion, the Obama administration’s denial of the program “undermines people’s confidence overall

Since the Obama administration withholds the truth from the White House Press Corps, its members cannot be considered to be fulfilling the function of actual journalists, which is to learn the truth and disseminate it to the public.

Instead, the members of the White House Press Corps are functioning as props, or movie extras, in the Obama administrations´ phony, lying presentations of actual White House press conferences.

By so doing, the White House Press Corps members knowingly conspire with the Obama administration to disseminate misleading information to the readers and viewers they´re supposed to be enlightening with the truth.

I wouldn´t be so quick to dismiss the significance of this surprising admission. It´s one thing for conservative commentators to claim Obama´s flunkies are lying, but quite another thing to have them admitting it. This will have an effect in both the media and the public over time as other developments evolve.

Who ordered it? The White House is a building - it doesn´t ´order´ anybody to do or not do anything. It´s a building. Who IN the White House issued these orders? Who are ´they´?

Sorry, I´m probably not as up-to-speed on this as I should be, but are we talking about the use of domestic drones or drones used in war zones/fight against terrorism. If it´s the latter, then I have to say that the less we know, the better. If the former, then, yes, there are lots of questions that need to be answered.

The "War on Terror" isn´t an excuse to go lobbing drones wherever the president feels like it. Our government is an out-of-control monster and has been for years. When we look back years from now, we´ll see that the biggest damage from 9/11 was our country´s slide into tyranny and authoritarianism as a result.

All the secrecy about the drone program is 100 percent political "cover your a**", and nothing to do with operational security.

As it sought to recruit well-heeled investors, an untested and unprofitable Miami company named InnoVida brought aboard a trusted Florida figure in 2007: Jeb Bush, the former governor and the brother of a sitting president. For potential stockholders, the imprimatur of Mr. Bush, who joined InnoVida as a paid consultant and a member of the board of directors, conferred credibility on the young start-up. That credibility did not last long. It turned out that the leaders of InnoVida, a manufacturer of inexpensive building materials, had faked documents, lied about the health of the business and misappropriated $40 million in company

LAS VEGAS — Deep beneath Lake Mead, a 23-foot-tall tunnel-boring machine grinds through stubborn bedrock in a billion-dollar effort to make sure water continues flowing to this thirsty resort city. For six years, the Southern Nevada Water Authority has been building an intake straw below the reservoir´s two existing pipes. Due for completion in fall 2015, critics say it may not provide a long-term solution. An ongoing drought and the Colorado River´s stunted flow have shrunk Lake Mead to its lowest level in generations. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.) told NBC´s "Meet the Press" on Sunday. "[T]hese elections, particularly the Senate elections, are referendums on the candidates running," she said. Asked about vulnerable Democrats who have criticized President Obama´s flawed healthcare law, Wasserman Schultz said they are running their own race. "They have to talk about and focus on the issues that are important to their constituents. And what´s also true is, if you look at the success rate and the track record of

President Obama asserts that 8 million people have signed up for Obamacare, as though that were something to be proud of. In fact, Obamacare has always been a fiasco from a fiscal perspective–a black hole of subsidies and expanded Medicaid, with largely fictitious mechanisms in place to pay for it. As the number of subsidized participants grows, the disaster gets worse. Charles Blahous explains: Our national discussion…is missing the truly significant story here; what is unfolding before our eyes is a colossal fiscal disaster, poised to haunt legislators and taxpayers for decades to come. It is quite possible that the ACA is

In an op-ed published in the Boston Globe on Easter Sunday and posted on the State Department website, Secretary of State John Kerry recalled his days as an altar boy and pointed out that he is “the first Catholic Secretary of State in 33 years.” Alexander Haig, who served as secretary of state to President Ronald Reagan from January 1981 to July 1982, was also a Catholic. Last month, I traveled to Rome with President Obama, where I was honored to meet His Holiness Pope Francis,” said Kerry. “As an altar boy six decades ago, I never imagined that I

“On the third day, he rose again.” That line, from the Nicene Creed, is a foundational statement of Christian belief. It declares that three days after Jesus died on the cross, he was resurrected, a glimmer of the eternal life promised to believers. It’s the heart of the Easter story in seven little words. But how that statement is interpreted is the source of some of the deepest rifts in Christianity — and a stumbling block for some Christians, and more than a few skeptics. Did Jesus literally come back from the dead in a bodily resurrection, as many traditionalist

DNC Chair and Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) told Meet the Press’ David Gregory Sunday morning that President Barack Obama’s latest delay in the approval of the proposed Keystone Pipeline was not a political decision meant to animate members of the Democratic base ahead of the 2014 midterms. “As a member of Congress who represents hundreds of thousands of people in south Florida, I want to make sure the right decision is arrived at and that the president makes that decision carefully and doesn’t factor politics into his decision, which I don’t think he is,” Wasserman Schultz said. An unholy alliance between the Tea Party and the teachers’ unions threatens to derail the most promising education reform in decades. Like Rocky in the early rounds, the new Common Core math and reading standards are being pummeled left and right. From the left: Education icon Diane Ravitch says the Common Core represents a “utilitarian view of education” that is too focused on testing, data, and accountability. From the right, “ObamaCore” is denounced as federal intrusion. Heritage Foundation education fellow Lindsey Burke calls it “an effort to impose a uniform, standardized curriculum across the country.” From the further right, the always

If expanding the guest list to include Michelle Obama at graduation for high school students in the Kansas capital city means fewer seats for friends and family, some students and their parents would prefer the first lady not attend. A furor over what the Topeka school district considers an honor has erupted after plans were announced for Obama to address a combined graduation ceremony for five area high schools next month an 8,000-seat arena. For some, it was the prospect of a tight limit on the number of seats allotted to each graduate. For others, it was the notion that Obama´s speech,
